You guys need to open a store in Sydney :)

  • "Genuine Windows® 7 Professional (OEM) 32/64bit"
    32 or 64?

    • +4

It means you can install both, if you run the recovery program it gives you the choice.

  • Very good deal! I got my Acer 1810T for $700! The only diffence between the two is the better processor in the acer. I would've bought this if the edal was on at the time I bought mine.

  • Great deal , these are quite good, reliable machines especially for the price. A little too red for me though!

  • Good price. Thanks for posting!

But maybe some would consider spending an extra $100 for a MUCH better machine:

    • -1

Completely different machines and target market , you may aswell have compared to an Ipad

      • Uhmm… no.

        • umm okay different size completely different specs, the thing in common or closest is the price , nice how your comebacks are factual, do you work at Macca's ;p

    • +7

      Guys
      while they seem similar
      there are some differences

11" (MLN) as opposed to 12" this depends on what you value or want

8 hours (MLN) battery life as opposed to 6 hours

Processors are about the same in reality performance wise, though Intel classification clearly puts ULV processors above Atom processors, Atom processors are the entry level in processors.

Windows 7 Professional is in the MLN version if you are after windows 7 Pro you need to pay between $50-$150 top of windows 7 home premium if you need it. Plus the MLN version includes XP rollback if you want that too.

MLN is based in Australia, you do not need to calculate currency conversion fees, bank fees when dealing with us, nor do you have to wait the extra time it takes for something to come from overseas or worry about possible tax implications.

There may be other advantages and disadvantages but this is from first glance what I could notice.

I think they are slightly different yet comparable. The choice is again yours.
      :)

      • Exactly, thanks. I never said they were the same. I was just giving users a choice.

The ASUS I linked to will have noticeable performance gain on the Toshiba, especially with graphics. And yes, even though it's an Atom, the CPU will perform better than the Celeron in the Toshiba.

The ASUS has a slightly larger screen but is lighter than the Toshiba, but the ASUS doesn't come with bluetooth.

        • +1

I think there are advantages and disadvantages and 11"/12" machines cannot be used for graphical purposes with Atom or ULV processors regardless any which way in reality.
Side by side you are not going to see a difference, I think.
Performance wise I do not see a difference.
Weight and size is also negligible.

To be factual I think it comes down to following

          Price,
          connectivity options and features
Limitations netbooks have over notebooks with Max RAM capacity
          battery life
          Appearance and aesthetics.
          Delivery time.
          Possible tax and warranty implications.

Again you guys make your choice and its great that people like all of you find these deals and post things about them as everyone gets to benefit from them.

          • @MLN: That's simply not true. The ASUS I linked to can play StarCraft 2 and most games. Not Crysis of course. Great for mobile entertainment.

You're confusing older generation single-core Atoms with the new dual-core Atoms + dedicated video.

The ASUS is classed as a netbook but it supports up to 4GB RAM.

            • @camelgrass: Camelgrass, I cant really comment on a product that is yet available to us in Australia.
As an authorised reseller of Asus we must comply with requirements set and I would need to receive this product legitimately before making a comment on it.
MLN may or may not decide to even stock this product.
MLN was the Australian reseller of the year for Asus Australia for 2008 and 2009.
I am sure your claims are correct and I am not disputing them I am just giving you the facts that I have in front of me for which I can only comment on,
I have not come across a benchmark test that we have tested that can give me information otherwise, is all I am saying.
I wish you luck with your purchase,

              • @MLN: One doesn't have to do internal testing and benchmarking to get performance information about a particular laptop. There are PLENTY of reputable benchmarking and review sites out there that do the hard work for you and probably even do a more exhaustive job.

Being in the industry for 10 years and multiple ASUS reseller of the year one would expect you to have at least some idea of what new/other products are out there even if you don't sell them at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to have a go at you, I respect the MLN business and your commitment to customer service here on OzB, it's just that I was genuinely surprised at comments such as "…11”/12” machines cannot be used for graphical purposes with Atom or ULV processors…" and "Performance wise I do not see a difference". There is a world of difference between Intel GS40 and NVIDIA ION2 graphics.

                • @camelgrass: I personally cannot play a game on a 12" computer ( I am a heavy gamer, and have starcraft 2 on my 13" laptop which I cant play on anything other than an external monitor)
I do not see a graphics application for the majority of customers who would use a 11" or 12" machine. There maybe some people who are happy to play games on a 12" netbook.
I disagree with your comments on Atom processors being better than ULV,
Intel also disagrees and they make these products.
if you are comparring GPUs as in graphics cards and so on, that is different to the performance of the CPU which is the ULV/Atom comparrison I am making.

This processor is not available by legal means in Australia via Asus Australia in anything other than a VX6
Grey importing is illegal. (for businesses)

Asus Asutralia will not be releasing anything above an Atom N455 processor in Australia. Other than than the Asus Vx6 Lambo netbook which will be above $700.

if you guys want to import it, thats fine, nothing wrong with that.
Again just commenting on factual information.

There are so many computers available in the world, in fact Eqypt at the moment has some really good netbook options, but again what is not available to MLN via the proper legal channels for MLN is not really helpful to any of our customers and this posting and link is MLN's link for available products that MLN sells. I am not posting on anyones page about their products or available options, just commenting on what MLN has and what every responsible retailer in Australia is supposed to have by legal means.

What I personally think about importing and grey marketing is not relevent to MLN's advertised products or product availabilty and as a retailer I cannot give you the answers you may need or expect from me in relation to this.

By the way Camelgrass I do enjoy reading your posting and links.
                  :)

                  • @MLN:

in fact Eqypt at the moment has some really good netbook options

Can you share some model numbers?
I dont want to buy an import model plus i am happy with my current model but i always like to see what other parts of the world get that we dont :-)

Grey importing is illegal. (for businesses)

                    Really?

So catch of the day selling products marked for sale in "Vietnam only" is illegal and they have not yet been in trouble for it?

Also there are the cheap $1 type stores, i think everything they sell is a grey import.

And a recent Ralph Lauren court case http://www.smartcompany.com.au/construction-and-engineering/…

I am not saying that you are wrong, but from what I can see stores currently doing there doesnt seem to be any law against it.

                  • +1

@MLN: MLN, you really need to read my posts more attentively and not misrepresent what I have communicated.

I never said "Atom processors are better than ULV". Of course, ULV's are generally superior to Atom's.

I was specifically commenting on the Atom D525 vs Celeron ULV 743 - one is a higher-end Atom and the other a lower-end ULV - and your misleading blanket statement that the 743 is better than any Atom processor currently available. Both processors would overlap in performance in many areas. The 743 may do better at some tasks, while the D525 would do better at others. Together with ION2 graphics the D525 would outperform the 743 with GMA GS40 in a lot of tasks - but not all.

There are plenty of real-world applications for a 12" with decent graphics.

      • Hi, can please see my query re: RAM upgrade below? Thanks.

      • MLN, you really need to help out us Sydney folks, we don't get enough off your deals here..

What can you do for us folks hehe?

The RAM is a problem, though. Is this Celeron M slower than a Core 2 ULV SU3500 in normal testing?

        • We deliver to Sydney, your cause is not lost! its ok guys we are an Australian company, just order it online. if your not in Melbourne, its not that bad is it?
All warranties are onsite anyway, so regardless of which part of Australia you live in, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, wherever, the warranty is direct on all our laptops, so you never bring them back to our store anyway they are handled by the manufacturer service centre directly via couriers so even if you were in Melbourne you still dont bring the laptop back to us.

Yes the Core 2 Duo processor would be slightly faster,
guys at this level they are all very similar and the windows experience score will sit around 3 for all these Atom, ULV, Core 2 ULV processors.
Not much difference at all, the purpose of these processors is for extended battery life, they way they go about it is by cutting performance.

You cant really have a super fast car that uses very little petrol unless you spend all of your money on changing this problem, speed and performance require power and energy.
          same thing applies here :)

so top end stuff usually only has both features, laptops below $2500 you have to sacrifice one of the two, performance or battery life.

Another thing to keep in mind is that netbooks do not support more than 2GB ram while this unit supports up to 4GB RAM becuase it is actually classified as a notebook.

          • @MLN: well im looking for 3 notebooks sub $800 with core i5 and dedicated graphics, and this sub-notebook. maybe i'll bite the bullet in the next few days!

Having said all that, I've seen Core 2 SU3500 and 7300s with around 6-7 hours batt life such as the Viewbooks (Viewsonic) around this price and because of the processor its a lot better at multitasking. Would this multi-task a lot worse?

            • @Jase__9: Seriously I think the difference is very little when it comes to processing power,

if you are after performance in portability
go for this notebook for $796
              https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=867
It has the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 (ULV)and 4 GB ram,
this is the best priced low voltage ultra portable notebook you can get and its a name brand.

Check the MLN website for other options in i3 and i5 in normal 15.6" mainstream machines.

  • Very good price. I think they want to sell for $598, but pricing error make it $498.
    Quote the product page:
"11.6inch size notebook computer less than $600!"
    "RRP $958. SAVE OVER $350"

    • +2

There is no pricing error it is $498
You are saving over $350 and it is less than $600

  • if only it had usb 3.0,

oh well, I guess that why these models are clearing, making way for the new Atom N550 based models,

  • Saw one of these yesterday in the flesh when I went to pick up one of the Lenovo's (see other thread). Its a gorgeous looking machine.

Only downer is the RAM - not enough for WIN7.

MLN, does it have a spare RAM slot or do you need to replace the RAM already in it if you upgrade to 4Gb?

    • +1

It has 2GB in there and one free slot, so you can upgrade it to 4GB by installing another module underneath.
This is again if you feel that 2GB is not enough, depending on how you install programs on your computer 2GB should be enough but 4GB wil be welcomed.
Memory upgrades are alwasy controversial as they may sometimes void warranty or cause instability if not done correctly.

      • Upgrading the memory should not void the warranty. Manufacturer provides a user upgradeable memory slot, it is a simple DIY upgrade. No manufacturer would be stupid enough to void a warranty over a memory upgrade. As a consumer, in Australia we have a statutory warranties that can not be modified. However a manufacturer can void an extended warranty, like an extra 12 months warranty etc.

There are always risks modifying and upgrading a computer, either hardware or software.

Our company sells the 2GB for this model for $84. That includes free shipping and GST.
        http://www.upgradeable.com.au/toshiba/satellite-pro-t110-009…

The specification on the memory is DDR3 1066mhz 204 pin SODIMM if anyone wants to find a generic module. However be careful with the brand. Toshiba is a premium computer, it might not like a low grade brand.

        • again this is your opinion and rather than telling everyone this, you need to inform customers that the manufacturer has the right to refuse a warranty claim, while your statement could be true in some instances it is not a universal blanket rule.

We can offer these RAM upgrades in store, for around half this price.

Please be aware if not done properly the vendor does have the right to refuse a warranty claim.

          • @MLN: It is not an opinion, it is the law. Statutory warranty is part of common law. It can not be modified or terminated. I suggest anyone that has a problem with a warranty should contact their states fair trading department or ACCC.
Think about it, would you let a car company void a warranty because you put on different tyres? A manufacturer can not void your warranty because you use third party products. Toshiba themselves recommend Kingston third party memory products.

            • +1

@upgradeable: Its not the same and talking about the ACCC here is not relevent when if the part you install is incorrectly installed, non compatable or simply the wrong part, it will void your warranty, you do not need to talk to the ACCC for this or look into understanding what a statutory warranty is.
Kingston memory recommended by Toshiba is exactly that, it is made for Toshiba and authorised by Toshiba.
              Your generic memory is not.
I have been doing this long enough to comment on this issue and personally worked in the returns department for a few years.
              I am certain of this.
Aftermarket non authorised RAM can cause problems with your system and void the warranty.
Kind of like putting really big wheels on your car, since we are giving that example,
check with you car company and you will see it will void your warranty if you put the wrong wheels and tyre combination on your car.
This information you are providing is not correct.

Plus your memory pricing is twice the price we sell it for, and in addition to this our memory installation at the time of purchase will not void your warranty for various reasons.

  • +3

    MLN quote:
…and the processor inbuilt is better than any Atom processor currently available.

I'm sorry but this is just not true. I have no problem with this deal, it's an excellent price, but this statement is misleading.

The Intel Atom D525 is dual-core and outperforms the single-core Celeron 743.

    • +3

I think MLN just want to say
"and the processor inbuilt is better than any Atom processor currently available at their store."

      Btw,this is not bad

    • Sorry you feel that way
Intel classifies Atom as below Celeron ULV
for other reasons such as battery life.
This is a fact and not my opinion.
As I have said many times, performance wise they are similar and at this level it makes no difference.

We do our own internal benchmarking and if you guys care to have a look some of the models listed here have been tested the T110 from teh internal benchmarking reviews we have conducted actually kill any Atom platform we have tested,
again I feel reluctant in saying this because others feel differently but you can have a look at the tests we conducted here,
this link always changes, and is usually more of an internal thing we look at.
      https://www.mln.com.au/info/?type=notebook-comparisons

T110 may not be there now, but it will come up soon.

Again all of you guys can make your own choice as to what you think is the best.
I think Intel would also disagree with the Atom processor being better than a ULV processor.

  • Question for the MLN gurus…

Does this have a Mini PCI-e port spare?
Does it have sim card reader fitted?
Does it have antennas pre installed?
Does the Toshiba use whitelist for WWAN cards?

It seems Toshiba did do this model with WWAN built in but they are not avail now?….bugger….

    • Does this have a Mini PCI-e port spare?
no it doesnt most new machines no longer have this

Does it have sim card reader fitted?
No, very few machines that I am aware of do.

Does it have antennas pre installed?
      yes

Does the Toshiba use whitelist for WWAN cards?
I am not sure why an Aus model would have this as Wimax is not a standard in Aus and its a US thing as no real network exists here.

      • as no real network exists here.

        How about vividwireless and unwired?

        http://www.vividwireless.com.au/home
        http://www.unwired.com.au/index.php

        • I cannot comment on these networks as less than 1% of the mobile internet market is on this network and I have no knowledge or experience on them.

Wimax is not listed as becoming a standard in Australia for a few years at least.
I would love for it to be.
(unfortunately we are dictated to by what networks can support in Aus.)

  • Any chance of a 4GB RAM bundle for $550, exclusively for OzBargain customers?

    • sure why not
Im sure we can accomodate for this, will confirm on it later tonight and see if I can get it online and up and running,
in store we could do this right away, pretty sure.

      • +1

Well you said you could do it at half of the $84 price quoted above so that would be $540 all in, right?

        • Nice spot, I missed that post.
          Hopefully we'll hear back soon.

          • @hellrazorone: its already posted online for a bit less than $550
$547 as per the website for total.
It was already listed online before I posted this message.
the selection is on the bottom right hand side when you click on the product link.

  • You are dead right why would Toshiba sell a Wimax equipped laptop in OZ.

I was referring to this model…….

    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/notebooks/satellite/pro…

We have recently bought 2 of the above and they are fantastic. Even has GPS enabled.

    • sounds nice
This model is available through our store,
for other products not listed its best to contact a sales Rep by visiting the mln.com.au and filling out the enquiry form for a proper answer with ETA and pricing.

      • Any further discount for Ozbargainers for this particular model?

    • If you want built in 3G and GPS have a look at the Nokia laptop.

I have had one since they were launched and it is great
