That S8 deal was for Optus branded stock. The Good Guys one has no carrier firmware and no carrier boot screen.

    • +2

      But that was Optus branded.

      • +2

Can't you erase the Optus crap and fresh reinstall some how?

        • +1

Yes you can, just need to flash with Odin a XSA version of the firmware

        • @Dezeption: the you risk triggering Knox right?

        • @Benwa:

no risk, just keep to the flashing instructions.

previously done it for the note4 and s7

Rom providing sites are terrible - they want your premium subscription to even give you a decent downloading speed. Went with https://samsung-firmware.org/ but download was too slow and halted several times - managed to get a decent dl speed from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/.

        • @Benwa: no Knox trigger. There no root required and your installing a official rom not a custom one

        • @loke: sammobile.com has always been the best but the free download is capped at about 300 so another alternative for future reference is www.updato.com

        • -1

          @Dezeption:

Yeah updato has been great, no sign up bs and great speed.

Just note though that flashing WILL trip knox which will kill your warranty. I try to use the phone for a while to make sure there's no issues before a flash.

Also for those that don't know the Note 8 will be released at the end of the month, might be worth the wait.

Hoping this will be the true update to the note 4. though for anyone not interested in the note 8, this seems like a good deal.

        • @WinBargain: I've flashed dozens of phones starting from the note3 to S8 and not once have I triggered Knox. Are you sure you have. Using official firmware does not trigger it only custom roms

        • @Dezeption:

Your right I was referring to custom roms

  • +1

Pretty good price. I think it's $200 off straight away, the other $100 is a EFTPOS card

  • +1

    200O FFS 8 :)

  • +1

Would like a 8+ but screen smashes easy and 500 for a replacement, yeah nah.

    • -1

Gotta agree. Break my LG G4 screen twice a year but only 40-50 to replace and can easily do it myself.

This phone would end up costing closer to 3k by the end.

Or alternatively you get a big case and than you completely lose the aesthetics

      • +13

Or stop dropping the damn thing!

        • If only it were that simple.

      • +2

I don't get how people managed to break their phone that frequently. All of my devices have been dropped atleast 4 dozens times each, and none of them cracked screen. This includes phones without gorilla glass 3 and onwards.

      • If your are going to smash the screen so much, prob wouldn't buy any new phone, as repairability is down in all new models.

    • +2

Replacement through Samsung is about about $260

    • Last time my s6edge screen cracked - I had to send the phone to sydney as they do not have authorised repairer in Brisbane. Paid $400 for the screen replacement. Had to chase them to return my phone by sending nasty emails and reporting delays on their facebook page. Got the phone back after 5 weeks. Screen replacement voids warranty even though it is replaced by authorised service center!

S8 active is announced today and this time it is 'at&t only' for a limited time. Hope we can buy it here down under.

  • Should I wait for the iPhone 8 instead?

    • +8

Yeh then S9 will be coming out… And when you wait for that iPhone 9 will be coming out… Etc loll

    • I am waiting for samsung s8 active. It's tougher than samsung s8. Hopefully it will land in Aus soon too.

      • Did any of the other active models come to Aus?

    • Or wait for the MS surface phone

  • As if not buy the phone with a amex card with free screen insurance. Only paid 10% for replacement.

    • So everyone has an Amex card now?

Edit: and those that have an Amex either have an Essential or an Explorer?

      • +1

        Every ozbargainer probably has.

        • Don't think that's true. I think many ozbargainers have it but I'm sure we have our fair share of those who don't have a credit card (student, unemployed, own decision).

I started here as a student, for example :) didn't have a credit card for the first 4-5 years of my ozbargaining life.

  • This low prices must be in conjunction with the imminent iPhone 8 release.

    • IFA 2017 in 3 weeks..

      • Used to have all the cool new phones…. Now it doesn't

  • +2

The T&C's states that the $100 eftpos card redemption is only valid when the product is purchased at full price.
Hence, if you use 200OFFS8, does that void the eligibility to get the $100 eftpos card also?

    • Was wondering the same thing?
      Fingers crossed it does!

    • +1

The email has $899 and $1049 very prominent so they will be in trouble if the $100 card is a lie.

      • could you share a screen cap of the email? thanks!

        • @joelmuzz:
Thanks for that, interestingly I was told by store staff that the email had a unique barcode at the bottom that the cashier needs to scan to apply the discount when purchasing in-store….

        • @PeteM:

No sign of any barcodes and the code is the same for everyone who got it.

There is a web link but it looks like an individual tracking code so can't publish that in case it exposes login or whatever.

      • +1

Hi Joelmuzz, could you please also forward to me a copy of the email or share a screenshot of the email? thanks!

        • +1

Hey joelmuzz could you also send/post a link of the email? Thanks

  • Genuine question on what people think. You cam get an S8 for $105 from Telstra with insurance and 17GB data. Is that not a better deal?

    • +2

      So $105 over 24 months = $2520
Or phone and SIM only 12 month plan with Virgin over 24 month 18gb = $1860

Could almost buy another phone with the savings

      • Agreed. Sorry, I should have mentioned I get a 20% corporate discount with Telstra. My bad.

        Virgin BYO
        $45 * 24 = $1080 (total Virgin Cost)
        Phone: $888 (incl. $100 card)
        Total: $1968

        Telstra
        $105 * 0.8 * 24 = $2016

This includes a $99 upgrade (after 12mths) or $190 replacement for a damaged phone at any time. As far as I can glean from this page: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/go-mobile-swap#!/fi…

        • +1

Yep. Do you get unlimited audio streaming/video streaming/unlimited 300min international etc if they are of any use.

But if you get that huge of a discount there isn't much point looking elsewhere. If you don't get that discount, then it's significantly more money.

Everyone who is buying this deal should also go and claim the 20,000 Qantas points shown in this deal to sweeten it some more :)

    • When does this offer last till?

Flying out 28 October so thinking to only buy it end of August.

      • The qantas promotion ends the 31st of August and this deal says it ends on the 16th of Aug, but they may extend it. Think it'll be hard to get TRS and this deal unfortunately.

        • Any reason why TRS is going to be a problem?

        • +1

          @FirstWizard:

Just because there is a 60 day limit between purchase and TRS application, so the purchase would have to be 29/8 in tajid's case, and the TGG deal will be over before then.

        • @doweyy: Gotcha! I was thinking you were talking in genera1 terms.
Since I'm flying out by 20th Sep, I think I might be safe ;)

      • $100 eftpos redemption is a TGG only promo, ends today.
20000 QP is by Samsung, ends 31st Aug

  • Only available for delivery when you add the code. Will go into my local and check if they will price match the coupon for pick up.

    • Can confirm that they will do the coupon in-store, picked one up just now.

      • ridiculous. mine refused to coupon in-store, so i went back and ordered online, they got tasked with the "fulfilment" and still refused to allow me to pick it up, even though they are meant to post it to me!

  • For crying out loud, going overseas in 63 days and the $100 cashback ends today

    • Just an idea (although a bit of effort)

      • Buy it today
      • Use receipt to claim EFTPOS card. Wait for it to arrive
      • Go to TGG after that, ask if you can refund and repurchase it (up to you whether you want to say for TRS purposes or for other reasons, such as getting using a Business Credit Card to pay or something)

At the very least this gives you a chance of getting both.

In any case, $100 EFTPOS is greater than the TRS if you're buying a S8.

If you're buying the S8+, I'll leave it to you..

    • In similar situation though I'm flying in 80+ days.

  • Is anyone having issues with the $100 eftpos claiming process?
Anyone done it successfully so far?

    • Are you having issues? If so, care to share?

    • Are you having issues? If so, care to share?

      • Disregard, TGG website just requires a small amount of time to register your purchase in your account :)

Thanks OP. I showed this offer to JB-Hifi and purchased S8 for $999 + $100 Jb-hifi gift card. Now I will get 20000 Qantas points worth around $200? Plus I will salary sacrifice the phone to my company. Technically the phone might be $400???

    • Damn, wish I thought to try JB, was that the Fyshwick store by any chance?

      • Yes Mate…

    • +1

Hm out of curiosity why did you go to JB to do it? A $100 EFTPOS card > $100 JB Hi-Fi card so the only thing I can think of is if you had discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards..

      • +1

I asked for $300 (200+100) discount but they came back with $100 gift card and also oz bargainers raised doubt about $100 EFTPOS and TGG closed that time so I decided to go with Jbhifi. I also bought few more things on the gift card.

I'm dealing with those guys many years so easy for me to negotiate.

  • how do you claim the $100 card? do you click on bonus and submit via
"Bonus PAY LESS Payback eftpos card on selected computers, tablets & phones" link? i think its the correct one. i submitted via this notebook offer as it lists the s8 model no. just have to wait and see.

  • has anyone got their A $100 EFTPOS card yet ? i havent getting a bit worried.
