Jeenee mobile have released new mobile plans AGAIN today. For those that signed up already to their last offer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/322245), apparently you will automatically be bumped up to this new plan! YAY!! I was alerted to this deal by one of the staff members on facebook chat. When the last deal happened, i kept saying Spintel and Bendigo were currently the cheapest.. looks like they listened and have added extra data and international calls. Now there is no better deal than Jeenee (on the Optus network).

By signing up before the 30th of September, you also get 500mb or 2gb (on $35 plan) of free data for the life of your plan.

There are no changes to the $9.90, $14.90, $20 or $50 plans.

Please note $10 set up fee (none with Large $25+ plans on 6/12mth contracts)… but if you are already with jeenee mobile, i don't think they charge it again for you to change plans. Just log onto your account.

In order to qualify for the Data Bump-Up program, you must:

Sign up to one of our new Pennywise Plans (launched from August 2017) and remain on one of these plans for longer than 6 months to qualify for the First Tier and 12-months.

$25 for 6.5GB is a killer deal. Thanks OP just signed up the parentals to that plan.

    • +2

I think that also, switching to it tomorrow :)

Does anyone know whose network they are using?

      • +1

Its in the description. Optus :-)

        • +1

          Lol missed it 😂

  • Great pricing on the $25 month-to-month plan, but account management page not (yet?) updated with details of these new plans.

    • I don't think so.. But it doesn't need to be if you signed up to their previous new plan. The rep told me it will automatically convert to the new plan.

  • +1 Wow, tempting deal!

  • -1

so, no love for existing customer? existing customer won't automatically upgrade to first tier after 6 months? :(

    • Where does it say that? All customers automatically upgrade tiers every 6 months. This deal is for both existing and new customers

      • In order to qualify for the Data Bump-Up program, you must:

Sign up to one of our new Pennywise Plans (launched from August 2017

        • Just change your plan over to one of the new ones available.. then you meet the criteria of bump ups

    • I switched to the new $9.90 account from a year-old $15 account and received the full data upgrade immediately. That is, I now have 1GB data per month.

  • Does this include 4G or just 3G?

What's Jeenee like compared to normal Optus plans? I remember having some blackspots back then on the Optus network?

What's Jeenee like for roaming? Are we able to just buy data plans on top or is there no roaming at all?

Tempted by this but I really want Telstra. But Telstra very rarely has proper deals.

    • Here are a few Providers who use Telstra.

      https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Carriers/TeleChoi…

      https://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Carriers/ALDImobi…

My family uses a combination of Telechoice and ALDI. We have family in country regions and Optus (a few years ago) was very patchy (stand outside at the back by the shed on the rock and face North to make a call).

Telstra's not perfect. I sometimes need to go to a certain room (using iPhone 6s Plus). But Optus was very painful.

I believe Telstra resellers have slightly less coverage than Telstra customers. They used to be 3G, now they're 4G.

I'd rather pay more for Telstra's network, when it's not going down country wide :)

      • (stand outside at the back by the shed on the rock and face North to make a call).

Lol I love how specific that was

    • Says pretty clearly these are all 4G plans on the full Optus network. Which means no difference at all to Optus' own plans.

For the record, my wife has been on Jeenee for about 12 months now and they've been excellent. Easy to deal with, no hassles with payment and the deals just keep getting better. Highly recommended.

Telstra has better coverage (in my area) than Optus but is much more expensive. If you're looking for the best deal on the Telstra network, Boost is the way to go - they're the only Telstra reseller that includes Telstra's entire network.

I regularly advice D. Trumph of US, T. Maey of UK, N. Moidy- IND, L. Kevin- CHN and the like.
They tend to be rather long conversations.

My current Amaysim plan at $25 gives unlimited calls to around 10 countries.

Recently I've been counselling B. England and a certain Moon Joey.
My international talk times are indeed getting lengthier.

When do you guys think I'll be able to switch to Jeenee to save a few bucks?

    Wisdom appreciated.

    • +1

Can't you just make a (pay) wall and have him pay for it?

  • +1

Telechoice with 3GB for $20 has been good to me but hard to resist 6.5GB for $25! Thanks OP

    • +1

      Telstra vs Optus network ;)

    • Telechoice charge $30 for 3gb

      • Was on a Telechoice plan with a bonus 1gb data a month. Changed to the $20 2gb Telechoice plan and the bonus 1gb data kept coming

  • +1

I had a brief chat with them via FB messenger (looking into plans for my brother) - they were extremely helpful and really good to deal with, if I was still in Oz this is who I'd be switching to personally.
AFAIK they have grown from a non-profit that used to support phones for disabled people, they seem to have a background along these lines.

  • Does this include unlimited international texts or only local?
I'm more likely to text NZ than call..

    • Hmm.. You might have to double check the critical information summary, but I think it was calls only. Not sure the international credit can be used for messaging

      • Looks like it costs 50c per international text - that's a deal breaker for me since most similar priced resellers include texts to popular countries.
I'd be paying $5-10 extra a month in text fees for just 10-20 messages.

        • Just use WhatsApp or any other messaging service that uses data. No one should be sending an sms overseas these days.

        • +1

@rbrb: that only works if all friends/family have that same app installed - SMS works for everyone no matter what brand/age of phone (or age/experience of the user).

        • +2

@systmworks: That’s why I suggested WhatsApp. It’s free and multiplatform and easy to use. Just tell them to install it and you are set to go. Save both parties on international costs. I have friends and relatives of all ages using it.

  • HI all,

This deal was posted couple of weeks ago and I took the bite.
Coming from Optus at $80/month plan with unlimited calls, sms/txt and 5GB data.
I moved to $35 Jeenee with unlimited calls, sms/txt but now I have 11GB data and 300mins international.

    The good:
    - more than halved my bill (in a year, that's a saving of $540! I put that into my car reg)
    - Same network, same voicemail number, same everything.
    - Kept my number, for some reason, I couldn't activate the sim online, so I called them, I spoke to someone in Sydney in around 6 minutes. All fixed.
    - Port changeover is before 12pm every day, I was offline (no calls data) for about 30 minutes. I was offline with no data for about 3.
Once swapped, your voicemail gets reset and you are set.
Data was a bit slow on the bit 24hrs, after that, normal.

    The bad:
    - The port over could have been smoother, but I wasn't complaining given that I halved my bill.

Regarding network, difference between Optus and Telstra was large about 5-10 years ago.
    Now, It is negligible.
So please stop saying Telstra is better or Optus is better, no, just no.
If you live in the sticks, you expect not to have good mobile reception with a carrier, also no gas and maybe no electricity :P In this case, find the carrier that works in your area.
I have been to areas where Optus works and Telstra doesn't (more than you can think off)
Anyways, my thinking: Why pay more for the same or better?

    • +1

This was posted by me a couple of weeks back.. But after the jeenee rep contacted me that they changed their plans, I thought I had to repost because now it is even sweeter.

    • +3

      Good to hear :).

A reason your port went a tad wrong is because when you port Optus to Optus it's still all paper based from what I last heard.

In comparison, Optus to Telstra or vice versa, it's all done automatically with software.

  • Hi kimba88.

You wrote this in your intro: "Please note $10 set up fee for 1-month contracts (none with 6/12-months)".

However, it seems like the 6 and 12 month plans also get charged the $10 fee.
For example, when checking out the 12 month $9.90 plan, it showed: "Min. total cost $128.80, which includes a $10 setup fee".
And also, "Min. total cost $69.40, which includes a $10 setup fee" for 6 month $9.90 plan.

Please double check and correct if needed.

    • Thanks for pointing that out. Somebody else actually edited that part of the description.. So I'm unsure. As far as I knew it was a $10 set up fee for everyone. Probably have to check the critical information summary though

    • I am on Jeenee now, I didn't pay a setup fee, that was last week with the $9.90 plan.

      Product Quantity Price
      $9.90 Pennywise Plan - 12 month1 $9.90
      Total due per month: $9.90
      Postage: Standard
Payment Method: Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard)
      Total Paid: $9.90

  • FFS. Why didnt they offered this 2 weeks ago? I signed up with Spintel two weeks ago for the L $23.95 with 5gig data and 50$ International Calls. This one is the same but with 6.5gig for just 1$ more. GRrr
I still havent received my Spintel SIM. Should I sign up with this and forget about activating the Spintel SIM? They already charged me $10 for the setup fee. :(

    • I'd do it if you think you'll use more data and calls. Better in the long run :).

    • I've been with JeeNee for 3 years now.
It took 2 business days for my SIM to arrive.

Never had a problem with their network, and theyve been really helpful whenever I called them (to upgrade plans for free, and a new microSIM for new phone). I think I might call them again for another upgrade… this is a rewarding carrier to stick to!!

      • Spintel just emailed me saying that the SIM is coming. That's two weeks late. Anyway it's not on contract so I might port out of Spintel to Jeenee after the first month. Thanks for the feedback.

    • I signed up to Jeenee on Friday night, received the Sim on Tuesday and was on the network by 1pm Wednesday. $9.90 a month with unlimited calls and texts amazing and the 1 gig is not too shabby either, I think most people could use less data, keep them from overly using their phone to access social media, I think it is a problem. If you are going to browse the Internet, it is best done on a PC, using Tablets and Phones is not good.

  • how is the optus network these days? Is it possible to have something similar to a family plan where we can share data? I have this currently with Voda but plan on leaving in a month?

  • God the reviews on Product review are shocking.

    • Yes check the whirlpool thread, I just left jeenee.

    • +2

90% of reviews on PR are shocking… people dont usually bother writing about good experiences, but go to the effort when things go wrong, so the site is heavily skewed to unhappy customers.

      • +1

Completely agree. I think this and the previous deal thread are good to go by with experiences. Whenever I've had an issue, it's been quickly rectified. I usually always try contacting Jeenee with Facebook private messages first, if they can't fix the issue, then i call. Yes, they don't have a very big call centre, but at least its based in Australia.

  • +1

I think they should have a cheaper plan, perhaps like 150MB data, 2 hours free calls and 50 SMS's for $4.95 a month.

    • i would love that too! not sure about 150MB though :)
something like 100mins / 350MB / unlimited text (for the 12 month contract option) would be pretty sweet.

  • My new plan kicked over today. Jeenee sent me new settings via sms that my phone automatically installed. My jeenee app on my mobile needed to be logged out and logged back in to reflect my new increase in data. No issues so far. I signed up to the previous month to month deal with 4gb data.. But my app automatically shows 5.5gb month to month plan. I'm happy coming from only 2.5gb!
