Seagate Expansion 8TB Desktop External Hard Drive US $183.20 (~AU $234.32)

Just noticed this has dropped to an equal low price, but works out about AU $12 less than the June deal thanks to the current exchange rate.

US $183.20 = AU $234.32 using Mastercard rates as of 18/8. If you pay in $AU instead of $US and let Amazon do the conversion then the total will be slightly higher.

very appealing but reviews on these are ordinary, personal experience with the 5TB Seagate has been horrendous.

bought one of these during the prime day sales, shucked it to use in a nas… was expecting an archive drive, but was pleasantly surprised to find a Seagate 8tb Barracuda Compute drive inside :)

    • I am about thiiiis close to doing the same. Just the warranty bugs me =P

    • Reviews on Amazon say it's a Seagate Archive SMR drive inside. Is it pot luck what you get?

      • I've cracked open five or six of these over the past year, and they all had archives in them, so I would have agreed with the reviews… I figured for the price another archive one would be fine, either Seagate are switching them over, or it was just random luck and they ran out of archive drives the day they built my unit.

  • How do you do power though?

    Back to US$175.

Looks like it just dropped back down (for now).

  • Any issues with using as an internal in a media server?
