M5 Motorway Cashback Scheme for NSW Residents - Tolls for Private Trips $0.42 after $4.18 Cashback (Paid Quarterly)

1340

This is a bit of a heads up for those who aren't aware of the M5 Cashback scheme.

A heap of people I've talked to recently haven't been aware of it.

It essentially means that the toll for any private trip in a private/pensioner/charity registered vehicle can be claimed back, minus GST. You will still need to manually submit a cashback claim every three months, in order to confirm that each trip on the M5 that is associated with your E-tag account was done in a private vehicle (the RMS occasionally audits this by taking photos of cars using the M5).

To get the cashback, you need to register for the M5 cashback scheme with one of these E-tag providers, which can usually be done through their online portals by clicking a check box.

After registering, you can use the M5 and claim your tolls back after each quarter (after the end of March, June, September, December) online through the tag provider's portal.

If you found that you've already registered for the M5 cashback when signing up for your toll account, you can claim for up to 12 months of trips.

      • No, where?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it thanks: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312356

EDIT 2: Tagless looks great for me, $50 credit, only $1.50 joining fee and 0.55c for vehicle ID + toll.

I've only ever used the tolls twice, and both were by accident so the $50 would last a lifetime, thanks.

Will be signing with them and E-Toll can go and rot in hell, will be getting my $120 back I have with them.

        EDIT: Just read this clause:

"Any portion of the Toll Credit which is not used by 30 September 2018 which was credited to the claimant's Linkt Account will be forfeited".

I wouldn't use the credit, but it's still a much better deal than E-Toll.

    • You know you can get an emu pass backdated (within 3 days), right?

      • Thanks, but wouldn't suit me.

    Is this through Cashrewards?

  • Thanks for this. I didn't realise I had to manually claim the cashback and now you've earned me $30 worth of cashback from about 9 months when I first bought my car :) Good man!

  • Thanks

  • Just as an aside, which toll tag to get? Never had one but with tolls everywhere now, need to get one :(

    • Transurban Linkt probably. $35 to start ($15 tag deposit + $20 opening credit), but they have a special offer where you get $50 tag credit after opening the account.

An RMS E-toll no monthly fee account, requires $90 to start ($40 tag deposit + $50 opening credit).

An RMS E-Toll monthly fee account requires $13 to start with a $1.50 registration fee, $1.50 account fee and $10 opening credit. If you want to auto top-up you'll need $40 opening credit.

Interlink E-Way's "regular" account requires $80 to start ($40 tag deposit + $40 opening credit) and you can set up a regular direct debit, or top up when the balance is low.

E-Way's "beep n pay" account requires $35 to start (you buy the E-tag outright) and you pay for each toll directly from your credit card account. There's no credit associated with the tag.

      • Thank you

What about ROAM? Is that an option.

Does it differ when in Aus you are at for my knowledge?

Don't bother with Roam, it's literally the same system as Transurban Linkt (Transurban owns both!) but with considerably higher minimum deposits and top ups.

        $40 tag deposit + $50 opening credit

It's $40 deposit, $40 minimum credit and $40 minimum top up.

I'll just avoid toll roads at all cost.

      • Same, I wouldn't mind as much if it weren't such a rip-off and all the money went to the government.

        • Then you spend twice as long sitting at traffic lights or in slow moving traffic. You can't win. Better to stay home.

I find Ozbargaining is easier from the comfort of my home too

@aragornelessar: The older I get the less I want to leave the house. Being outside, you have to deal with people, and people are annoying. If I was able to work from home I'd seldom leave.

  • IS this only for people in the South West? My brother in law that anyone else can't claim…

    • Nope. That used to be the case but now everyone can claim.

I know coz I just claimed and I don't live in the SW.

      • You can only claim if you're a NSW resident and the vehicle is registered in NSW: https://goo.gl/cOew0C

        • And only if your vehicle is registered under private, pensioner or charity registration.

I can confirm that you usually get an EFT transfer within 5 business days of making a claim on m5 cashback.

    • I usually get mine the day after I submit my claim
