Xbox HD DVD drive POSSIBLY $47 at Dstore...maybe
Ok I might get a few negative votes here but I am going to post anyway.
This morning Dstore had on the front page Xbox HD DVD drive for $47 but the time I put in the trolley and remeberd my password (about 10mins!) it went back to $117.
So there might be a chance as it is still in stock that it could go back to $47.
Comments
Yes, when added to trolley it shows 47.05, whatever price it shows earlier. But what is the use really to buy a dvd player that is likely going to play regular DVDs only!.
It seems to work when clicking add to trolley from the front page of dstore.. I haven’t completed the transaction cause I don’t want one.. The drive can be used as an external DVD Drive on Macs and supposedly can be used as an external HD DVD drive on PC’s (XP or Vista) by following the instructions here..
yup its wokring now, I just got one for $38.05 less moneyback %
Product Details
Xbox 360 Genuine HD DVD Drive $47.05
Product Total: $47.05
Delivery and Handling Total: $1.00
Credit: $10.00
Order Total (Including GST): $38.05
Now got to get myself some HDDVD discs and an xbox!
Just a community service-type announcement: Toshiba, the creator of HD-DVD and (if I’m not mistaken) the only player left in the market, has recently drop their support for HD-DVD, effectively leaving the market to blu-ray only. This is the ONLY reason why those companies like Microsoft is doing the fire sale of their HD-DVD related hardware.
So, as pointed out by mawinmawin above, those buying this effectively can only use it as a regular dvd player. Unless you already have a huge collection of HD-DVD. And bear in mind, if you only want a regular dvd player, there are plenty of better valued products out there.
Is this only drive or come with “Includes King Kong DVD and Universal remote” same as @ dvdcrave.com?
RIP HD-DVD - MAY BLURAY DIE IN VAIN THE SAMEWAY BETAMAX DID :)
I still think it’s a bargain… you can’t buy an empty no-name brand external drive case for $50, let alone one with a bonus brand name DVD-ROM drive.. plus you can pick up bargain HD-DVD’s at the moment too!!
For those that need a USB dvd drive, it’s a worthwhile purchase, I wouldn’t recommend buying this for it’s HD-DVD feature.. Similarly Minidisc.. it was a great technology if you had a need for a high quality, highly portable recording platform back in its day.. DAT was only slightly superior but was also significantly more expensive and less portable!
It was worth posting - just because you don’t want it doesnt make it a bargain….
Hey — for those who voted negative on this deal. Check this out!

Maybe you can buy this and sell it for $$$ 20 years later :)
Yeah. Sorry about my bad humour, but I did put a smiley at the end, didn’t I :)
Seriously, HD DVD players will worth a fortune a few years down the track — much less than 20 years I think — when those who invested a lot on HD DVD discs have their player died on them due to wear and tear. They will figure out it will cost them more to replace all their movies to Blu Ray, then buy another player off eBay…
Dont own an xbox, or want any microsoft product, or even an HD DVD, but its a bargain and bargains are what this site is all about, not personal likes or dislikes, and if its out of stock, then that made it a bargain, if I missed out because i was late then its not the deal that is at fault.
HDDVD aside, I thought this was a good bargain cause at the very least you get an external remote controled DVD player for your PC which I believe with Vista works straight out of the box.
Maybe I should have mentioned that when first posting.
I think I did well getting it for $38 less moneyback.
Those with XP this link takes you through the steps to play back HDDVD on PC.

Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Yes it does.
Regards,
Jon
Down voting just because you missed out is not very nice.
Good to hear that it comes with King Kong and a remote. I hope theres a package when I get home this arvo.
agreed - this selfish attitude makes you wonder why post a deal at all. because some idiot may
- miss out because they get out of bed late - bargains are only bargains if they get it - maybe they should be given advance warning on the bargain
- live too far away - sheesh dumb poster should make allowance that not all our members live next door to the bargain shop
- find it’s the wrong color for them
- be concerned it get’s higher posts than the deal they are posting
- not like the product being offered even if it is a bargain
- not have enough money for the bargain - maybe others here should check each person’s bank balance before posting
- just have a negative outlook on life - each poster should make allowance that they haven’t had their prozac today
Get real people vote negative if there is something that needs our attention - like it’s spam or its a con or there are conditions on the offer that really need highlighting. or its a duplicate. or its somewhat cheaper elsewhere.
People SHARE their bargains because its something they enjoy. Dumb NEGATIVE voting just makes them feel why bother. AND that means less bargains for us to find out about - so who loses - it’s US
Remember it it doesn’t appeal you can abstain from voting - positive votes show how good everyone thinks the deal is
Otherwise we just get into subjective assessments that mean nothing - heck I don’t like this deal because it should be a further .13% cheaper
Damn - now I have got negative about the negatives!!!
looks like DSE have caught up aswell:
