Floor Covering To Go Over Tiles

I'm looking for a floor covering to go over tiles to provide protection to my child who likes to run around a be silly. He will be sitting up without a high chair soon and we have a tiled loungeroom and dining room.

I was thinking of getting something like rugs, foam or rubber to soften any falls or trips & also make the room warmers in winter.

Room sizes:

Dining Room: 3m x 2.9m
Lounge room: 3.5m x 4m

Any suggestions on the cheapest place to get these (either online or in the Penrith/Blacktown/Hawkesbury/Hills Shire area)?

  • Rug from IKEA or Bunnings.

Bubba Mat - cheapest is at Costco under Dwinguler brand.

    • Or get them at the various baby expos

  • Plus 1 on rugs, probably the most cost effective and visually appealing. Alternatively you've got those jigsaw type gym mats, I've used then on a home gym and they are dam comfortable to walk on, but look super crap.

  • Why do you have a tiled lounge room?

      I'm guessing it's a 60s home renovated by Italians in the 80s

    • Some people prefer tiles.

      • In the bathroom and laundry, yes

        • some people tile their entire house, i had tiles in the living room for most of my life growing up, its not such a strange thing for people with european backgrounds.

    • You should get out more. Experience the world.

      • Oh, so you think washing machines in kitchens like the Uk is also a good thing?

    • Not our choice, that's how the house came.

    • Tiles are common on ground floors nowadays. More so than soft flooring.

  • What we did for the exact same reasons, we went to a local seconds carpet seller and got them to make what we purchased into rugs. A 3x3 cost us around $50 into total.

Great in winter and good for falling kids.

  • thanks all
