  • One of the lowest prices I have seen for the lights. May get a few.
    Thanks OP.

    • +2

      Only one per account

      • +3

That's what pet accounts are for.

      • Ah…….
        Well got one for now!!!!!!!!

        • Yeehaw!

  • Great price.

I had one RGB light fail - it would never reset with power on/off procedure.
Any way of removing this light from the Yeelight app? Doesn't seem to have this option.

    • Theres a remove device in the mihome app though not sure about yeelight app as i never used it.

      • My lights are controlled with the Yeelight app and the echo skill (locale singapore)

Mi Home app has the xiaomi cameras + Mi LED desk lamp (locale china)

    • Tried connecting to a different phone app?

    • "Unbind" in the overflow menu, perhaps?

      • That's what I did when I reset one of mine to change my ssid and the app was initially still showing the old connection.

      • As the light is offline, I don't get that option.

Also this light is listed and offline on other devices with the Yeelight app with my Mi account.

Everything else works, its just an entry in my light list that I no longer have.

        • Oh right, 'cause you can't actually go into the light settings at all.

May have to give the Mi Home app a go in that case, as you can just delete devices from the list.

        • Wondering if the echo skill works with the Mi Home app

        • +2

If u swipe left in the list screen, it will ask if you want to unbind

        • Thanks - it worked

  • The problem i found with "Smart Home Security Kit" is that, it requires constant internet connection. If the internet connection is failed, nothing will work. Other it is a nice idea especially with xiaomi camera attached.

    • +3

Dont quote me on this, but i believe you can achieve control of your xiaomi system without internet using home assistant. Im waiting for a few items before i try a full setup myself so i cant verify at m. However i would encourage you to check home assistant YT vids and doco.

      • +2

Yup , integrated xiaomi stuff with my home assistant hub(running on pi3) with abit of programming effort you can control xiaomi zigbee stuff as well as their wifi bulbs .

      • +1

Yep, as mentioned above, with home assistant running you can use the devices outside of the xiaomi cloud. Home assistant is not for the faint hearted though.

        • Another option for running without constant Internet is Domoticz

        • @corbin: I have also heard of this however i no nothing about it. How does it compare to HA?

        • +1

          @jackwoz:

Domoticz has easier setup requiring less programming type setup to get automation going (although that is just my opinion). Both are good options and can run on a Raspberry Pi, and you could be up and running on both relatively quickly by using the pre-made images:

        • +1

@corbin: I might give it a whirl. I find HA very finicky with the configuration file. One missed place space and every things broken

        • +1

@jackwoz: Yes YAML is an absolute bitch to use but it's a hurdle worth getting over as Home Assistant is by far the best. 791 components now supported and the Xiaomi gateway is now included in the main release.

Use this to verify or Notepad++ to edit.

          https://codebeautify.org/yaml-validator

Also Home Assistant now has a built in automation editor so it does all those things for you (haven't tried it yet myself).

Also with the Yeelights you can add them into Google Assistant (Home or Android) which means it can respond to voice commands (Home Assistant also has voice control, to a degree). Just remember you have to use the Singapore server not mainland China.

        • @Rutger: I think the thing to add them to Google Home is currently down, but have changed my Mi Home app to singapore. Had it on China so the vacuum got good updates. Is there another downside to having the vacuum on the Singapore server rather than Mainland China?

        • @kulprit: Sry forgot to say it's only via the Yeelight app not the Mi Home app.

There's no difference I'm aware of.

        • @Rutger: You saying is important to use the yeelight app set to Singapore over the mi home app set to Singapore? Will find out in the long run how it affects the vacuum set to Singapore rather than China.

        • @kulprit: It's only available if you use Yeelight app on Singapore server. It won't work on another server or Mi Home app. Talking about integration into Google Assistant, which is only for Yeelights at the moment and not others such as vacuum.

    • Home security and an internet connection is always a good combo because it lets any computer in the world contact your home security system!

  • Is the code for the Yeelight working for you guys? It's bringing up the price to $28.17 for me? I'm using one atm and it's been working perfectly!

    • Need to be logged in+ only 1 per account
      worked for me.
      Cheers.

      • My bad. Got it working! Cheers :)

    • Worked for me after logging in. Thanks OP

  • darn it, why dont they ever have the B22 globes on special?

    • +2

maybe its coz they dont have B22 yeelight bulbs at all

    • I dont think yeelightes ever have B22 :)

      • seems strange though, I've never been in a house with E27 fittings inside, only B22.

There are E27 fittings for outdoor fixtures, but never indoors.

        • A lamp? And the 3-in-1 bathroom fan/light/heat lamp thing.

        • Australia is mostly B22 but over the years newer houses are going E27. Probably because more E27 fittings can be bought cheap from Chinese manufacturers.

        • My house is majority e27.

        • @dylanando: so strange, my house is brand new, and wherever I didn't pony up for LED downlights its all B22 fittins inside.

        • @rodripa: ive got a couple downlights in the kitchen but the rest are infact e27. Edison style!!

  • Showing as expired to me too!

    • Logged in?

    • Coupon code worked for me just then.

  • Got one smart bulb. Thanks OP. Was looking at buying one for a while now.

  • How bright do these get? I can't see in the specs. Equivalent to how many lumen?

    • 600lm

      • Cheers, a bit dim then. Ordered 2 to gadget around with.

        • It's not too bad, had one earlier, it does the job. Switched the Philips Hue recently, expensive, yes, but it's so much better

        • @Scyl: what are the advantages with the Phillips?

        • @muzzakus: there isn't one killer feature or any huge, but the experience as a whole is just smoother, things connect and work faster. It's an more enjoyable experience, which I guess is the whole point of smart home systems.

  • Thanks OP. Picked one up since was impressed with the light strip from the last deal.

  • GB shipment is frustrating. I haven't received my order from 3/8.

    • And what was the shipping ETA?

      • it doesn't say specifically. on their website states it's up to 30 business days though.

  • I ordered two yeelights from Gearbest on the 7th of August, they've still not been sent. I've contacted them through their site and the ozbargain rep but the order status is still "packed".

    • My experience with their delivery is it can be slow for unregistered air mail (up to 6 weeks after shipment). But so far I have always received the items (over 10) I bought.

  • Do you guys know if the kit includes the V2 gateway?

    • according to gearbest responses in the product page , it is the V2 gateway.

    • What's the difference between the two versions?

      • apparently V2 has internet radio(Chinese radios only) & logo changed, that's all I know of.

        • Okay, would definitely be V2 then, as it's also described in the product description as having internet radio, well "online radio".

  • Thanks OP.
    Bought one to try.

I think the kids will have more fun with this than me

  • The code XIAOMI5IN1 showing expired.

Is this bulb a part of the "yes" campaign propaganda?

  • Hi guys, I'm looking to use a motion sensor to turn on a LIFX or Xiaomi bulb and leave it on until it is turned off. Would the motion sensor in the security kit here work?

    • don't think the MI home app works with LIFX .

you can achieve that by creating a rule(MI Home app) , when motion sensor detected motion , turn on xiaomi bulb . It will not turn off itself until you turn it off manually.

      • Thanks

      • +1

Yes it will work, I have this setup in my staircase, you can turn on the Yeelight when motion is detected and set another rule to turn it off after no motion is detected for X no. of minutes.

  • Which shipping method are you guys using for the yeelights?

  • Ordered!

  • Looks expensive to me the light bulb.. but still brought it. Does anyone know why is it special compared to other normal light bulbs..?

    • it has silver paint

    • Where did you bring it to

    • It's a RGB LED.

It should last 5yrs but even if it only lasted one year it's still a great buy as being able to change colour and brightness is awesome. I use one in the bedroom. Red to help shut down the brain at night and blue to wake up to which helps the brain start up again.

The only negative is it's not quite bright enough and especially with certain colours. Get two and get a splitter.

  • Bought thanks OP! Already own a LIFX from another sale. Hoping to set up OpenHab on a Raspberry Pi to amalgamate them

    • +1

Hoping to set up OpenHab on a Raspberry Pi to amalgamate them

Sounds good. I have RPI connected to my 2 lifx bulbs and strip and I cant be happier. Would be good to add few Xiaomi lights as they are cheap.

Do you know if Xiaomi light will have same colour as Lifx? So when I ask siri to change the colour of all lights to red, I really want all to look similar.

      • Not sure sorry. Good question though! I'll find out soon. I'm operating this over different rooms so not bothered, personally. What are you running on your RPI? Homebridge?

  • I'm getting expired on "paynomo" for the yeelight?

    • Me too… :(

  • Yep expired for me as well :(

  • +1

Looks like they sold 200 Lights!!!!
    Pretty quick.

  • expired for me too..

  • Got one thanks

    Received 13c Cashrewards <0.8% should be 2.4% (41c)

    • Are you a new or existing GB customer? 13c is exactly correct for returning customers.

      • Sorry tightarse missed the existing customers only get 0.8%

        • Cheers mate. Just checking to make sure all is ok :)

  • Expired :'-(

  • Can a current owner please let me know if they turn on to full brightness instantly, (if full brightness selected in the app) or have a very brief fade in? (Like a LIFX Bulb) thanks!

    • +1

There is a setting to remember last state, which includes brightness, so yes they can go to full brightness instantly. But if you wanted a fade in effect, that can be done also.

    • +1

I believe they will fade if you turn them on or off with the app, but they will turn on/off immediately at the light switch if you specify the state.

  • Also are these dimmable using an existing dimmer?

    • +1

I wouldn't recommend it, since it has electronics that connect to wifi etc. (If you install it to a dimmer, leave it on max?)

      • Yep that's what I'd probably do.

  • If i buy a Yeelight, do i need some sort of bridge to connect all of the lights together - similar to the Phillips Hue system?
