      They have decided to move forward with these solutions focused synergies that are sure to ideate big data and leverage value-added game-changing performance in their holistic app-killer.

    • Why oh why? Terrible name. (They even claim it is derived from "Work, Inc." but that's not going to be apparent to anyone seeing the name.)

      Or did they lose the rights to the brand name from the US parent?

      in a way that describes their approach to marketing.
      I watched the 2 minute video, some marketing types got paid way too much to overproduce an ad so long that the message was lost.

      3-eyed Raven version (for non-GoT fans, that means how I see the past, present & future)
      The story of Staples Australia:
      * large American company thinks there's easy money to be made by applying their exact US business model to Aus, with no sensible research or analysis of the market size or competitors.
      * Based simply on the belief that "We're American, everyone loves us, they'll flock to us instead of those awful foreign companies they have to deal with", they decide to launch in Aus
      * gives away opening day freebies on Ozbargain, gains lots of new customers on their email list (thanks for the cheap A4 paper)
      * most customers never buy again because its the same offering as established players officeworks/office national/etc, no cheaper, no more convenient, just less familiar
      * after a couple of years losing money, they decide that changing their name will make a huge difference.
      * massive marketing wank re-launch with a new, stupid name that means less than their previous name
      * 12 months hence, they admit defeat, close up and go home
      * in the meantime many upper managers take huge bonuses my fudging the measures used for success
      * local employees get shafted on the shutdown, as tricky corporate structures are used to shield the parent company from basic obligations such as paying award wages, super etc
      * minor article on page 17 of newpapers re-tells this story

          * 2019 report - ATO finds Staples/winc paid $0 tax in its 3 year operation, due to transfer pricing scheme that exported all profits to the USA parent company.
