not a bad price considering it is pre-order and brand new etc

    • I'm incredibly tempted, there's a lot of variation with ram and storage too, the only thing holding me back is the MIUI, if that was just Android OS I'd buy it for sure

      • pretty sure you can root and get other roms for it.

        • +2

How can you be sure? It's not even out yet and no one would be developing for it. It is likely but can be very hit and miss for Xiaomi phones.

        • +3

@squanchy: Their CEO once said geek is xiaomi's culture. they were borned for GEEKS…

        • +7

          @squanchy:
No doubt there will be ROMs soon.
Currently I'm using the first mix running ressurection remix rom which is as close to vanilla android.
Even before that I used Nova launcher.
There's actually a couple of nice things in mui, especially second app which lets you have two apps with separate accounts etc.

        • +2

          @bbourizk:

especially second app which lets you have two apps with separate accounts etc.

          Love that feature.

        • +2

double facebook or whatsapp is cool

      • +3

the only thing holding me back is the MIUI, if that was just Android OS

I'm a big fan of MIUI but can't you just install another launcher …

        • what do you like about it?

        • +3

@kelvach: what isn't to like? Frequent updates, app duplication, battery performance is stellar, built in tasker clone, etc etc.

        • +3

          @kelvach:

Been an Apple user all these years and just bought the Note 4x to try it out and gotta say I'm a fan. No complaints with MIUI thus far snappy, has a lot of handy features and battery management is great as well. Two thumbs up from me.

      • Why not OnePlus 5 then?

        • I suppose the Mix if you must have a bigger screen. Other than that I don't know what advantages

        • @Phoebus:
Yeah that's what I was thinking, though if a close to stock Android experience is a must the OnePlus is apparently the way to go.

        • yep i went for a oneplus 5 last week with the 18% discount, came down to $470

      • +1

except for nuxus and pixel most android phone manufacturers add their own skin and default apps so,that they compete on features not price against other phones …. MIUI interface won't be an issue for stock phone users . Bigger issue is cost for a phone with no local support and probably very little resale value compared to a samsung or iphone ….. and if people want a cheap phablet with local support there are LG phones eg V20, 30, G6 …. forgetting bootloop in their earlier phones.

      • MIUI is pretty good. I was impressed with it, lots of great built-in features like a Tasker and Greenify clone.

      • I use Google Launcher on my Original Mi Mix, no lag at all, other than notification bar and settings which is still MIUI feels like stock android to me.

Pretty great price on a stunning looking smartphone, free shipping, has band 28,

Wrong order, put "has band 28" in the front :)

    • Haha, I considered it, couldn't resist bolding it though.

    • Not too sure about the 'band 28' phobia. All of my research has turned out that it doesn't affect your service. Would love to see some proof to the contrary.

      • +1

        Depends where you live mate.

        • ^ Pretty much this. Go somewhere more rural and you'll find that the only 4G services Telstra offers is B28.

        • @Clear: no need rural.

not sure if you are from NSW but this suburb "Sydenham"

Sydenham is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Sydenham is located 8 kilometres south of Sydney central business district

8 km from cbd, if you travel by train near this place you wont get good signal without band 28.

        • @dragonindespair: Half the time you don't get 4G while on the trains.

        • @Clear: not that bad for me, just certain places. but yeah, australia what can we expect.

  • Good that shipping is free but I'm pretty sure that sending it back when something is wrong with phone won't be free.

    Nevertheless the phone looks stunning.

    • +1

Will be free if you make payment using Paypal. Paypal has free return shipping cost for purchases through it.

      • +6
        • I wonder if that includes shipping cost for warranty purposes or strictly for refund (return) only?

        • +1

          @victorheaven: Both as they're both returns 😉

        • @Clear:

Wow.. that's fantastic! Thanks for that.

        • @victorheaven:
*Up to 8 refunds per PayPal account per year for eligible purchases. A cap of $45 per refund request applies. The Refunded Returns service is offered by PayPal Pte. Ltd, in partnership with TELUS International Europe, the service provider. See the General Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy for further information.
**Return shipping receipts require the seller’s address and the amount you paid. If your receipt doesn’t include the seller’s address, we also need a photo of the package you returned, showing the seller’s address.

      • Really? is the process straight forward? exceptions?

I sometimes buy cheap stuff from China via eBay which don't always match the item as described or don't work after a short period of time. I thought of sending it back but the cost of postage is close to or more than the cost of the item so I just accept the loss and move on.

  • +2

I got an e-mail offering for $567.99 USD, not sure if it is generic. Enjoy! 😊

  • I dont think this has the international version rom on it, so meaning no goolge store etc.
Probably wait for another month or two.

    • -2

Meh, I don't think I've ever even used the goolge store.

    • What is the benefit with having google store? Is it just the ability to install apps? If so, don't Xiaomi have their own app store? I'm new to Android & dont have any experience with Xiaomi

      • +7

the ability to use the google store means you can load what apps you want rather than the ones the chinese government allows based on regulatory requirements. eg facebook.
so that is why global rom is important unless you are chinese. in which case you probabaly use the chinese domestic equivalents eg westerners use whatsapp chinese seem to use wechat.

        • Thanks for the reply.

So just to clarify, i wont be able to use facebook or whatsapp on the phone straight out of the box if i was to buy this phone?

      • Cant hand all your data away to google

  • +7

    No headphone jack?

    • -3

      Are you scared?

      • +3

        He lacks courage

        • +2

Just pointing it out for potential buyers.

A bit like the band 28 thing haha.

      • BTW these are the worst sounding headphones ever…
Its a pity with all the great sounding corded Chinese headphones out at the moment.

        • But Reviews are fine? That bad?

    • usb c to 3.5mm adapters are very cheap $5, if you have older headphones and want to keep on using them eg bose or beats etc bur for the majority of phone users wireless buds seem to be the way the market is heading for convenience of size and no tangled cords.

amazing how people complain about apple yet people copy them for trends ….. iphones 7 no 3.5mm socket and it makes headlines , iphone 8 it's now the norm, people have adjusted and even android are copying trend by using usb c port.

      • +1

Comes with: 1 × Earphone Adapter Line

      • +5

Can't charge and listen to music at the same time etc.

        • +1

^^ 10+ votes for you on that sniper :)

    • This phone would be a great choice if it had a headphone jack, oh well.

  • +2

Xiaomi finally joined the wireless power whatever, so from next year onwards they should start putting Qi charging in their phones. I will wait for that before I purchase another xiaomi, especially one that is under 4000mah.

    • +1

the speed of usb c charge solves most people's problems ….. Qi is ok for overnight at home or in your office as the charge you get from 15 mins on QC3 is way more than 15 mins on Qi …. but Qi does make the manufacturing of weather resistant phones easier , reduced wear on the usb port , i have QI charger but have never used it.

  • How does this compare to the s8+?

    • +1

S8+ wins hands down in raw specs. Honestly couldn't give a fly f for Samsung's curved edges. I'd take this design anyday

      • I know lots of people are wowed by the curves but I am the exact opposite. set up my wife's S8 and everytime I use it I am pleased to revert back to my laggy S5 with awful camera (indoors) because the flatscreen which is easy to accurately touch target feels like a futuristic luxury, the S8 curve evoking the long since passed days of curved CRT TVs with parts of the screen obscured in the corners

    • +6

Better display and resolution, Samsung Pay, better camera, a more aesthetically appealing version of Android, has headphone jack.

  • +4

Anyone else miss the old size of 6.44 inches? I understand 5.99 was used to make it more portable/less hassle to talk on for a long time but one thing I love about my Mi Max is the size. I'd jump at the Mi Mix 2 if it continued with the same size as the Mi Mix. 1st world problems make life hard.

    • +1

Agree mine is 6" now and my next one have to be bigger. And that's not just what she said it was what he said too!

    • +1

Tell me about it. I went from using a Mi Max to a Sammy A9 Pro. There's a 0.44" difference in screen size but my typing is badly affected because of this. You might find the Max 2 a worthy successor.

      • Yes was thinking Mi Mix first version due to size or Mi Max 2 but Max 2 doesn't seem much of an upgrade. I understand the Mi Mix isn't either but at least it looks significantly different on the outside etc.

    • I think they are trying to cater this phone to the more average consumer. I love my Mi Mix, but holding a slimmer Note 8 just feels more natrual

  • This phone is really good if you want a new and innovative design. However, if you want the brand and name, go for Samsung.

I believe the price will further drop since it is using same snapdragon 835 chip which has been already released by every other phone company.

    • I might not be normal but the curved edge on Samsung phone is making me dizzy. I like the design though.

  • +3

Use code "MiMIX2" to bring it down to 734.72

  • +4

Dont get this if you are after the best camera experience. It has an adequate camera but doesnt compete with apple, samsung, htc or google.

    • +2

Yeah the Chinese phones are always have super duper amazing specs for their camera but so so picture quality. Especially low light.

      • +1

What so super duper impressive about the camera specs? According to specs I found it uses a physically smaller 12mp sensor compared to what other flagships like the U11 or S7,S8 etc use. Also the aperture isn't as wide, so the sensor doesn't get as much light. It makes perfect sense that low light performance wouldn't be as good. Even phones from 2015 such as the old LG G4 use a bigger sensor and have wider aperture.

  • +3

Guys just to warn you..the pics are renders and if you watch any youtube video you ll realize the real phone is different.

    • LOL. Bezel more this generation.

    • Why is that?

      • It is not the first time Xiaomi shows renders that are different from the real product. This one as well. The real Xiaomi mi mix 2 screen ratio is less then the renders. That s false advertising.

  • who would buy this over s8 or s8 plus?? with that price
obviously s8+ superior phone in every category

  • One drop and it's all over.

  • In China this is only around 600 Bucks. Don't buy this unless you really want.

    • -3

yeah in US IPONE SE only sells for 199 dollars, don't spend 1400 for iphone X

      • +1

        SAME PHONE I mean.

    • +1

Agreed. This is essentially a retail plus handling price. This will drop once availability improves in a few weeks.

  • Hot dang. Might have to have an 'accident' with this phone so I can grab this at this price.

    Thanks op!

  • i would Get this if it was alot Cheaper and Not sold by Geekbuying ……..

    • +2

Gearbest has it at 569.99 usd with coupon code XMMIX64

      • -1

by Cheaper i mean around 150USD( or perhaps 250)

might wait till 3G has been Dropped

      • I pre-ordered the 128GB variant from Gearbest 6 days ago. I received an email today advising my order has now been shipped out.

        • +1

How much did you pay for it? I missed the sale at 588 usd

        • @hawkeye10:

Gut feeling says too much. $629 USD for the 128GB version.

        • +1

Be warned, normally they 'ship' quite quickly. But it will still be weeks before you see the item move.. The tracking code generally does not work either.

        • @auslei:

Thanks for the heads up :) those mf's

  • at this price range i dont see this as a deal… it's more expensive than a dual sim s8+ (on sale) minus the headphone jack, google play store, ip68

    • its 3299 rmb ($628 AUD) on the Xiaomi Tmall website - http://bit.ly/2wPJnLH

      • that website is confusing not available for purchase until sep 26? also i presume that price doesnt include the shipping cost.

        • +1

Yep sale starts on 26th 10am on Taobao. Thats when it actually goes on sale.. You can check the Xiaomi website as well https://item.mi.com/product/10000070.html

Geekbuying is preorder that ships in 15 days.

Yes price doesnt include shipping, I normally use the website to check item prices in china. Dont think you can check shipping cost until it goes onsale. My wife did ship a whole pile of things cheap when taobao launched the bulk shipping service. They distribute to local pickup points.. ie. local milkbar.. Think it took less than 7 days to receive package. Helps if you have a native speaker.

I regularly travel to china, Im actually going next month so will be visiting the Xiaomi Store to see it in person. Once I was in China for the Miband 2 release. got to the Xiaomi store 1 hour after opening and it was actually sold out >_< apparently queues formed 2 hours before opening.

        • @darkage: I went to the Xiaomi store today (via an Ozbargain Hainan Airlines deal, Sydney to Xi'an / Beijing). The phone is listed at 3299 rmb ($626:50AUD). But completely out of stock, and they don't know when they will have any.

        • @Newcroft: Not surprised. Pretty much a repeating story with new releases especially no information on when it will be back in stock and probably advised to check online. :P Wife didnt want to fly Hainan Airlines so we went next cheapest option Singapore airlines to Guangzhou. Currently thinking about getting the Mi Max 2 (cheaper price point and sightly bigger screen) I'll check it out next month.

  • Too overpriced. Camera on this phone is just Mehhh..
