  • You should perhaps state the retailer in the title, Bing Lee.

Just a heads up - It doesn't appear to have the old style AV sockets to run the sound to an old amp.

You're right it doesn't have those sockets. I had to buy a digital to analogue converter to feed in to my amp. Having spent $200 I then realised that I also needed the dac to decode the signals so that dac didn't work and ended up buying a cheap one for $30 from China off ebay that works.

      • Do you have a link please? I have the same issue with this Panasonic PVR I bought for my parents.

I bought these, but it didn't work -
5ft HDMI Male to RCA Video Audio $4.45
HDMI Male To Dual HDMI Female $2.89

It does have optical digital output, add an inexpensive DAC to use with older amps.

      "edit" beaten by carleast :)

      • Would this work? RCA Digital Optical Coaxial Toslink to Analog L/R Audio Converter $5.95

        • +1

Yep that should work as long as you have a USB power source or spare wall adapter or this one with power adapter included http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152610068508

@Blackrose: I can plug it into a usb on the side of the tv or back of the pvr.
          Thanks for your help.

        • +1

          @Blackrose:

I ended up buying one from here - $5.89 shipped
Just got it yesterday, plugged it into the usb & optical output on the tv and it works. Awesome cheap solution to keep using an old style amp with no hdmi sockets.

  • While I do like this box I think many cheaper boxes would probably suffice. The main reason I use it is to get Optus Sports but you can't get that channel by buying the box outright.

  • Good price for the Mighty, but no Mini on their eBay store?

  • whoa, almost works out cheaper to just go one month with optus internet to get this free.

    • +1

Beware - my understanding is that you don't get to keep the Fetch TV boxes at the end of an Optus contract. And the Mighty will get bricked if not returned at the end of the contract.

      • Bricked and you'll be charged ~$400.

      • Thanks had no idea, damn that's some shifty advertising from optus. Managed to find this:

"Yes TV by Fetch set top box: Optus owns the set top box, and you must return it following cancellation of the service. Fees apply for late return or damage to the set top box."

        • +1

Nothing particularly shifty or unexpected IMO

  • How do these compare to the Altech PVR9600T? I'm considering replacing mine because it's playing up.

    • I've got one and it's pretty good. Can't compare to the Altech as I don't have that, but this is the best PVR I've owned to date.

  • Got one, thank OP

  • So no good for subscription services if you have an internet cap?
