12V Garden Lights Not Bright

Hey,

So had 8 12v LED garden spike lights put in out my back garden and was excited to power them on when it got dark. End result - they barely give off any light - my solar ones which I use elsewhere seem to be just as effective. It's a pity really as had an Electrician run wires, setup transformers and run switch wire etc. to get them going.

I bought 2 of these: https://goo.gl/EKSW4p from Bunnings so I guess you get what you pay for? I don't have much experience in buying garden lights but when I saw "super bright" description, I thought they would do the trick. I reckon it would be too much hassle to bring them back and don't have boxes now either.

Anyway, looking for ways to maybe brighten things up a bit with existing structure. I can't swap out LED bulbs so was considering swapping out lights for something stronger that work off the 12v cabling system.

Anyone an recommendations / ideas? I am not looking for the MCG but just something (not too dear) that actually omits a decent bit of light into garden area, beds, trees at night.

Cheers!

I would be pissed if I spent $110 and got barely any light, but then again I would have checked the specs, they only use 1.5w per light, they pretty damn low. But they would be more directional than the others.

These are 20w, https://www.bunnings.com.au/brilliant-20w-12v-black-coolum-e… but pretty expensive.

Just wait a couple of weeks, I'm sure Xiaomi will have garden lights soon.

  • Search in ozb there is $11 outdoor solar light with sensor. Not xiaomi but very good. Dim first after dusk then turn Bright when someone pass by

  • The size and distance of the cabling will dictate the total power (wattage) of all the lights you can use. That is, the longer the cabling the lesser the wattage output you can achieve.
Do a web search and you can find a few sites that will provide the info you will need.

    • Not forgetting the output of that tranny (unless replacing it also)
