Was just on whirlpool looking for any good Desire HD deals and stumbled accross this
To be concise.. Pre-order the Desire HD from vodafone on a 12 month plan for $49 cap + $25 monthly repayments.
This should be $888. Which is a pretty good plan to start with since Import cost is $700 from clove. Now if you are NRMA member(there's other companies as well)
https://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/mynrma/hs.xsl/m4m_vod…

Ozbargain NRMA deal post here
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29833

You get a 10% off access fees and 3 months free access. This comes to

$49 + $25 CAP ……………… Details
————————- ………….. ———-
$25 *12 = $300.0 ………….. $450
$44.1 *9 = $393.9 ………….. 1.5 GB
total = $696.9 ………….. unlimited 3 and vodafone

EDIT: Some people are getting 10% off even in the handset repayments so get ready to gamble :)

$69 + $15 CAP

$15 * 12 = $180.0 …………. $650
$62.1 *9 = $558.9 …………. 2 GB
total= $738.9 …………. Unlimited 3 and vodafone + unlimited TXT/PXT to any network

Difference of $42

Which is an absolute steal right now.
Note that its only valid till the 31st of October and Vodafone only has 7000 handsets from the first order

Ok here's the official webpage for the HTC Desire HD
http://www.htc.com/www/product/desirehd/overview.html
It's basically the best Android phone right now, I'm sorry Samsung Galaxy S-I mean out-of-the-box and Froyo/Flash capable.

Hehe note mobicity had ads on the front page for the Desire HD, click on it and price is $869

Good price but has some disadvantages…

    -28c texts
    -90c/min calls (+35c connection)
    -limited coverage
    -slower 3G speed

    • Yeah but even if you just wanna buy outright add $75 to the unlocking before 6 months, it's still cheaper than mobicity
      http://www.mobicity.com.au/htc-desire-hd.html

Plus if you live in a good vodafone coverage area like here in Canberra(at least for me -prepaid), then this is pretty sweet. It's currently on the $59 cap for 24 months = $1416 :)

  • +2

Now, if only we found out if anyone will be stocking the Desire Z in Australia. Sigh.

    • For me it was either this or Desire Z
but then I found out they will make a bluetooth keyboard + case for the HD and there was the bigger screen as well :)
Heard Desire Z will be coming to Telstra but next year :(

  • from where did you get the 7000 handset limit?

  • +2

It’s basically the best Android phone right now, I’m sorry Samsung Galaxy S-I mean out-of-the-box and Froyo/Flash capable.

Screw FroYo, us N1 owners are expecting Gingerbread to show up on our phones any day now.

  • Its only $741 if you don't do the NMRA thing since there's 3 months free showing up anyway.

BTW how do you get the NMRA thing, I don't see it anywhere in the signup process?

EDIT: hang on, now its showing up with the discount. Hmm, I'm sure I just went through and searched for the thing on the page, oh well.

    • oh ok did not know 3 months was all vodafone. I hope preorders don't fill up too quickly, my friend gets his pay friday and he will not be pleased if it's over

      • Actually I think I was wrong, its showing up as $50 bonus credit now, if you don't go through your link. So would be $838 total cost normally.

  • how much does vodafone charge you for unlocking?

    • +1

      $75 if in 1st 6months
      $25 after

    • +1

$50 basic unlocking but $25 if you use the website unlock code..after 6 months
If you unlock before 6 months it's an extra $50 so in total $75
      EDIT:
      beat me to it

    • +1

Generally, all vodafone post-paid phones are free to unlock. The 75 dollar fee normally applies to only prepaid phones.

      • I sure hope you're right! :)

  • +1

I wonder if the free 3 months apply for RACQ members as the RACQ site only states the 10% off offer with Vodafone (http://www.racq.com.au/membership/member_discounts/syc_and_s…).

  • Damnit!
When I click Buy it returns a connection was interrupted error. This is with both the linked special offer, and their normal offer (no discount), in both Firefox and IE.
Is it fine for everyone else?

    • I was up to the 4th step, filling in the questionaire, and then it 'connection errored' on me :(

    • +2

looks like the whirlpool/ozbargain effect :o

    • Success! Got through eventually, and order placed. I now have an email record confirming this awesome offer, and just waiting…

  • anyone know if Vodaphone will pay out the rest of my 69 cap at optus? got about 8 months left.

  • ANYONE WANTS to keep the contract and sell me the Desire HD for 550? :D ill take it straight away lol.]

    • I may actually consider this.
Will look into details this evening after work.

      • Well your not accepting emails through your contacts page. hope to hear from you soon :D

  • NO WAY.

I honestly cannot believe this! Holy cow, man. I was nearly gonna pay this much for no calls included! 0_0

    • the more the merrier.. hope they have good reception in Sydney!

Good bargain post spawnpoint. Well thought out & written up. Look forward to future posts from you.

    • If I find some good deals, I will surely put them up
      thnx

i purchased the galaxy from vodafone using this deal - although it's an absolute bargain, i've found that their customer service is horrible. When i received the phone, it was faulty (impossibly short battery life, phone froze), i have put 5 requests for a new handset to be sent out to me but every time i ring again they have a new excuse (eg. the person did not authorise it, there is a piece of missing information, we have no stock). it's been over a month now and because i purchased it over the phone using the nrma deal, the people at the store aren't able to help me.

just want to let you know before you purchase the phone.

    • Same here, went through the same pain, but got a good Galaxy and in the end it was worth the hassle. Actually went through it twice, just dont call at peak times, i.e. 12-2pm,

  • You're better off overall on the $69+$15 HR plan, sure it costs forty odd bucks more, but you get more call value and data as opposed to paying for the phone itself.

    • Yeah thats a viable/great option for those that want more data and unlimited text. And it's only ~$3.5 per month anyways.
For me.I won't be using this much anyways so why pay more. IF you don't mind I'll add it to the post as well :)

      Cheers

  • dam shame you need a drivers license or passport id to order - don't have either :(

    • Ha Ha, thats to stop anklebiters from ordering expensive stuff online

  • +2

    Just waiting on credit check.
however just read on whirlpool that there are some concerns with the site…

    ssfftt writes…
is http://store.vodafone.com.au a test site? when I click on Online Store I get http://shop.vodafone.com.au instead…

and the site search doesnt give me any link to that page too…

    any idea?

Yes actually…I'm also rather concerned…it seems to be a totally different site, however hosted on the vodafone.com.au domain, with store.vodafone.com.au not shop.vodafone.com.au…rather strange…

    ~Concerns~
    1. The store.vodafone.com.au site loads rather slow…indicating it may be suss.
    2. If you look at the Site Map on the store.vodafone.com.au page it is rather different to the one on vodafone.com.au
    3. The Customer Care number is different on store.vodafone.com.au, listed as 1300 300 404, rather than 1300 650 410.

All these strange things are leading me to be wary of putting my details in and placing a pre-order myself…

    • +1

I strongly recommend you do not place a pre-order or cancel your pre-order if you have such concerns (if only to give the rest of us a better chance of scoring this deal, ;-)

    • Yeah I know what you mean. I did a network check on them and the site appears to be hosted slightly different….though I think it still is owned by Vodafone. But I can't find anyway to get to the store.vodafone.com.au site from the vodafone.com.au homepage.

      I'm a little cautious myself.

Edit: Found how to get to the site. It's totally fine. I was just being paranoid :P

  • Pretty good phone for less than $700.

I bought the original HTC Desire from eBay for $711. On a cap that's finishing next year. Never regretted it.

That's why I would think this cap + phone would definitely worth your money.

  • I would rather go for the 24-month plan and pay $59 and get the phone for free.

But I was hoping I could get this offer from 3.

Anyone seen it anywhere on 3's website as I can't find it?

I would like to stick with 3 for family reasons :)

    • Vodaphone and 3 are now the same aren't they? Can't you now call between vodaphone and three for free? Don't quote me on that - but worth investigating.

    • It really doesnt matter if ur with 3 or voda. everythign is the same now. and soon u will be all moved to voda ne way. and no the discount doesnt apply to 3, just voda

      • +1

Sorry but it does matter. Vodafone has the worst customer service ever.

        • totally agree on that one!

      • i tell u how it matters to me.

my wife, all my relatives are on 3, if I swith to voda, then it's no difference to me but unless they change their plans to new 3 or voda plans then when they call me, it won't be free to them.

I don't want to screw them up, well not at least my wife ;)

        • All calls are free to/fro Voda AND Three.

    • all existing 3 and Voda customers
You can pre-order from the 31st of October…good luck securing a handset :D

Someone said there's a 2 week wait for delivery

  • +1

changed my samsung galaxy order over too a desirehd yesterday, same money better phone

    • Galaxy S has bad battery life - Desire HD has worse. Just sayin'

      • battery can be managed though..HTC are on their way to fix this issue and generally HTC releases patches faster than samsung and updates the OS as well(FroYo update)

        Though each to their own!

  • Tempted, but the size and weight are turning me off. The original Desire was already largish (6cm wide) and heavyish (135g) while the specs for the HD say it's 6.8cm wide and 164g.

    • yup, same here. very tempting, but it's just too big.

      • +8

        that's what she said

        • -1

          +1

  • Called them up. 2-3 weeks for delivery from today. YAY will be ordering mine today.

  • Just double check.
    1. With this google map. Is this only for Australian map?
    2. Also, can we update the map so all the new road every year will get updated.
    3. Does the map has speed warning or speed camera warning?

Sorry, I am new in this google map stuff.

Because it is a good one if it has all the above so I don't need to buy a GPS.
    Thanks

  • Why does the $59 plan (24mths) go to $69 on 12mths?

    • it's actually the other way round…for the 24th month plan the $69 plan goes to $59 plan, after 24 months the plan will be reverted to $69 again

    • The $59 plan is basically the $69 cap but discounted by $10 provided you sign up on a 24 month contract. There is no discount for the 12 month option.

      • This is incorrect. I upgraded my plan for aGalaxy S (was just to sick of waiting for the Desire HD) and I went onto the 12 months plan. I am paying ony 69/month since it is $10 a month for 12 months plus the $10 discount.

I did not ask for that and the guy over the phone just did that for me.

I must say these are really good deals considering you are going on a 12 months contract. Even if you get the top phone it becomes too old after 24 months and you start hating it from the 6th month anyway.

  • Hi,
Does anyone have offers for joining NRMA. Thanks

  • Should I go iPhone or this??

I can get a 32gb iphone 4 for $99 with Telstra on a $39 cap due to their welcome credit and my $10 discount p/m.

But this includes more data and perhaps is a better phone AND is only 12 months? difficult decisions.. gotta decide before end of the month.

I got a iphone 3G at the moment and love it, but getting too slow and want a better camera, video recording etc.

    • +1

What is vodafone coverage like where you live and do you travel much?

I'd go Telstra if it were me.

      • exactly what I was going to say..also try out android before you make any decisions. If you like to keep it simple and want a better/smaller screen go Iphone otherwise Desire HD FTW

        Here's something that might help
        http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobil…

      • +1

I signed up with voda this time with NRMA deal.
Was cheap but quality is pretty bad, every second call drops on iphone 4. no issue with handset but can see the bar, only one or two in most of melbourne metro.Atleast where i am.
So yeah, you get what you pay :)

    • I have reconsidered my choice and gone with telstra HTD Desire instead. Voda's network seems to be hell. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/?action=threads_search&… look lol. after being with virgin, ive had enough issues so. telstra it is.

That said. for 700$ for the year, which is the price of the phone… ur getting the service for free.

    • +1

I'm currently packing an HTC Legend and an iPhone 4 32 GB (yes, I know). It all depends on taste. IMO, the HTC Desire HD seems like an absolute bargain at this price and is apparently the non-US version of the Evo 4G (possibly the most feature-specced phone on the planet). Personally if this phone were available when I picked up the iPhone, I'd have gone with this, that screen is mouth-watering (size > pixel density imo)

  • Does the NRMA offer with Vodafone come out regularly or is this like a one-off special?

    • they had a similar deal before this one. except it was 2 months last time. this time its 3

  • sounds good deal. i am looking to upgrade my HTC Hero to either Desire HD or Desire Z, with high AUD, i am thinking about get one from overseas on my leave next month and then sign up with some cheap plan. But the 12 month plan promo seems like a better deal. thank you.. but promo is ended this sunday.. hmm… hmm…

  • Can someone tell me if Voda and 3 use the same network? I was a satisfied 3 customer until about a month ago when I got a HTC Legend on Voda. Probably the biggest mistake of my life. The phone is great but is useless on Voda's network, I sent a complaint and apparently it seems 3 uses Telstra's network, which was much better. To make matters worse, Voda has the worst customer service ever. The automated girl didn't understand a word I said and kept glitching even though I read one of it's very specific phrases off the website. Then I literally spoke to 8 different Indians, and was put on hold for 1 hour and 20 mins before I got to one who was competent and did the work that 7 failed to do (I spoke to his manager and commended him after that).

If this phone is coming out on 3 I would gladly end my contract right now.

  • Just ordered mine online, 12 month contract, they'll waive first 3 month access fee, what is that? is that the $25/m one?I always trust HTC, had a TyTn2 and HD2(died in 3 months, its my fault, not the phone), all my friends with 3, and you get to call 3 free which is very good. Now my questions is Vodafone really has the worse signal of all service provider?

  • Finally gave in and ordered!! Thanks for posting this!

  • Great deal! Nice find!

  • So I was looking at these, and with the 3 months free I noticed in the T&C it says:

+Offer available to members of the SYC&S program who connect to a new 12 or 24 month Vodafone contract through the Vodafone AMSR website or telesales from 01/08/10 to 31/10/10. 3 months free access will be applied as a $99 credit to your first, second and third bills. Offer applies to access fees only. Any charges for additional or excluded services will still apply.

I rang Vodafone they said they don't know what a SYC&S program is (or anything about this offer at all for that fact). They said it's being run by a reseller not Vodafone directly and they have no info about any of the conditions. Anyone know what a SYC&S member is or contact info for AMSR? Vodafone couldn't help me with their contact details :)

    • Oh weird…my text went all bolded…

      • +1

Lol, it went bold because you put 2 asterisks.

    • Show Your Card & Save

    • +1

Here's the link, courtesy of whirlpool.
      http://www.sycs.com.au/Savings/tabid/59/List/1/CategoryID/4/…

Look below at the pictures, they show which memberships this offer is applicable.

      • Oh right, so people off the street won't get the 3 months free. Booourns :p

        • how will they know. they dont even check?

    • SYC&S is kind of like Fly Buy point, as in you can have different cards that utilise the feature. Various cards have this membership (eg NRMA and RACQ)

  • Also EVERYONE. This is not limited to NRMA. Works with RACQ and any card hold that has the "Show Your Card & Save" (SYC&S) logo/label on it.

Though they don't ask for proof of holding one of these cards at any stage so…….

EDIT: Maybe the OP would like to update the title…..
EDIT2: Thank aznkiwi91. His link made me realise this.

  • Hmm, Vodafone lists the HTC Desire HD as having Tri-band 3G, yet the HTC site says dual-band. Can anyone confirm the Vodafone version is Tri-band? If it is, is it then compatible with Next G?

    Thanks.

    • i think its tri band GSM

      • Thanks, might have to give them a call to find out for sure.

  • Desure HD coming to Crazy Johns.
    http://www.crazyjohns.com.au/htc-desire-hd/
I understand on the $59 CAP
but donno contract lenght or if have to pay extra for phone.
    anyone else has details?

    • Crazy Johns is a subsidiary of VHA (Vodafone Hutchison Australia), so no surprise there…….

  • Is Vodafone credits included international calls?

    • +1

Most of the new plans include them now, yes…that's why I've decided to go back to them.

      • So you can use all $450 credits for international on $49 plan?
BTW can you check your phone call usages and date on the web?

        • Yup…to both questions. :)

    • oops…double post, sorry.

  • No one pointed out deal even better with moneybackco? Or is it not applicable to this case?

    • Got any links to to that?
How does moneybackco work on cap plans?

      • There's a link to that up top before the comments to the bargain. $84 back on postpaid plans … but wondering if n/a in this case, can anyone confirm?

    • I can confirm that the affiliation network that MoneyBackCo uses is certainly tracking this offer, i.e. $84 per sign ups. Seems to be a pretty popular offer so hopefully Vodafone will honour the payment to MBC.
