This Philips player has mostly very good reviews on the Interwebs and has a simple remote control hack to make it DVD region free.

However I couldn't find a hack for Blu-ray region free, other than reported hardware mods; which defeat the purpose of a cheap player.
The Phillips @ $99 would be superior to the Soniq BD player @ $99, but Blu-Ray regions can be changed on the Soniq.
