Thanks to the rep in a previous thread. About two dollars cheaper than the last time a GB coupon for this was posted. This is a great starter kit for home automation to go along with all those Yeelights you've been purchasing.

Limted to first 50, 3 times per account, AU, NZ only.

What does this do? Couldn't make out much even after reading the description.

    • +4

Indeed, i struggle with most Xiaomi gear does, but i understand the pen :-)

      • +1

apprantly the xiaomi pen is mightier then their sword

        • It'll earn you a quick trip to a Chinese gulag.

      • I don't need the gateway if I just want some light bulbs do I? Do all of these work with Google home or other software, or are we stuck with Mi Home?

        • +2

No but if you want to use the smart switch that you might have purchased then you will need the gateway. Way I use mine is with the motion sensor when it detects motion at wee hours in the morning on goes the light and the camera starts recording scaring potential thieves

        • @nobby148: thanks, I didn't know I needed the gateway for the switches, would have been very annoying when they finally arrived.

AU priority shipping was free as well.

        • @nobby148: I presume you are using the motion sensor indoors?

        • @OZB Al: pretty sure I have seen someone bragged that they could turn on yeelight bulbs with ok google on their phone.

        • @OZB Al: No, you might not need the gateway for the switch. Depends on which one you buy, theres 2 versions. one for gateway and one for wifi.

        • @ripesashimi: yes yeelight is compatible with google assistant so it is voice controllable.

        • @ripesashimi: yep, do it here. You need to install the yeelight app, create/use your xioami account, make sure you log onto Singapore, setup your lights, and then in google link in your yeelight account (google home/home control/add devices/add 'yeelight actions'). Commands go via the google app to the yeelight 'cloud' back to your device. Although there's a couple of hops involved, response is pretty quick.

        • @eswes: currently have them indoors but thinking about adding one or two outside to turn on the lights as well.

        • @tomochin1991: Checked my orders, they were Zigbee, didn't know of the different versions. Appears it would be worth paying more for the Wi-Fi switches and not needing to buy a gateway.

        • +1

@OZB Al: Zigbee also reports power usage and uses way less power on standby

How long do the cr1632 cells last in these sensors?

    • +17

I've mine running for 1 year+ and yet to replace battery yet. Buy yourself a few button batteries to spare so that you can swap out asap.
Note that different sensors use different battery type. Here is my list:

      Xiaomi Motion Sensor = CR2450
      Xiaomi Door Sensor = CR1632
      Xiaomi Button = CR2320

  • +1

How secure are these to external access? Given they run off of xiaomi's servers what's to stop someone outside monitoring your movements or hacking into your network?

    • +12

You can integrate this to Home-assistant (https://home-assistant.io) and block all the xiaomi device talking to their server.
So that this smart home only work locally and never talk to outside world.

      • Does home-assistant.io take the place of the gateway?

        • +1

          No.

        • +3

Gateway is only required for zigbee devices, wifi devices shouldnt need it

      • +1

Yep, im using the kit and other xiaomi with HASS. Works great.

        • Are you also using the Yeelights with it too? (Due to the Singapore/Mainland China issues)

        • +1

@sean85: Yes, they work in HASS too. I've got my Mi-Home app set to China, the Yeelight app set to Singapore.

I only use those apps to initially set up the devices, after that I use home assistant for all of them.

        • @team teri: Sweet. I might look into it because I've got the Echo Dot but it's only compatible with the Singapore servers atm.

        • @sean85: What issue is that?

        • @asa79: Issue working with the Echo Dot. For eg. Xiaomi Home Sec only works on the Mainland China Server, and the Echo Dot only works with the Singapore Server atm (Yeelight esp)

        • @sean85:
yes, i have yeelight strip, they work great too!

    • +14

Also the fact that no one actually gives a shit about your home network.

    • +1

Lights go on, lights go off, lights go on, lights go off.

    • Wont be any less secure then google/amazon or apple.

  • Great deal!

Should priced at $50 mark. No deal.

  • Nice.

  • thanks

any codes for Xiaomi mijia Honeywell Fire Alarm Detector and Xiaomi mijia Honeywell Gas Alarm????

    • +1

Do the fire alarms meet the new Australian requirements?

      • They may be capable of meeting them (depending on a number of factors such as age of building, state, etc - http://www.psaproducts.com.au/smoke-alarm-law/), but would not be approved/compliant until independently assessed by the likes of CSIRO (http://www.activfire.gov.au/). The cost of doing this would normally be paid for by an importer/distributor who would then ensure that the product is properly labelled & packaged etc before selling it locally. As well as shipping, this is one of the reasons why products can cost more here than they do overseas - overseas they still need to go through similar checks but the cost of doing that is spread out over a larger number of units being sold. Australia/NZ = smaller market so the cost of certification has to be absorbed by fewer units.

What this all means is that until they are officially imported and distributed locally then if you want to use them then you should only use them in conjunction with approved alarms otherwise you could have issues with insurance etc if there is a fire.

        • It would be nice if standards could be more internationally standardised, such that CE certification was also acceptable in Aus.

        • @2be8:
How many devices with CE on them are actually compliant?

        • @BartholemewH: a bunch of the sonoff devices are, and many are wire-in so I care much more about certification.
          But indeed, plenty are not.

        • @2be8:
I think CE is probably a no cost option from most Chinese factoriesm

        • @BartholemewH:
Sure. You can see my post re: sonoff CE here (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/333601#comment-5140417)

You can stick this on your ceiling together with your existing Fire alarm if you just want the smart functionality, it uses Built-in CR123A cell battery.

    • I'm actually waiting for a discount on that also.

  • Waiting for this one to come up. Thanks OP

  • +2

I expected that their home security kit included a camera at the very least.

  • Good idea but I think the problem will be changing those batteries will be a pain every couple of years

  • +13

This is slightly more expensive than buying each component at a good deal on its own, but some (especially the home gateway) don't seem to have deals very often.

I grabbed one of these previously, and have added a bunch of sensors and another gateway since. I like.
Best prices I've seen for components:

    AU4.89 for switch
    AU25.06 for gateway
    AU11.22 for body sensor
    AU11.99 for zigbee socket
AU4.99 for door and window sensor

Difference is only about $8, and those deals on components are very good prices, so I consider this a good deal if you want all of those components.

    • bought the GW the other day for 25 and will slowly buy these components when they are on sale..

    • Heads up, new best low price of the body sensor:
      $9.03
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/339534

      • Cool. And that's the better of the body sensors in my opinion. The other one (with the little stand) doesn't seem to trigger the alarm?

  • i've got 2 house dogs, does anyone know if the sensor can be fine tuned not to pick up their movements??

    • +1

Even though the sensors are described as 'human', your dogs will still activate them. My cats do.

    • +1

No. You will need to convert your dogs to the non-house kind.

    • wrap them in foil

    Anyone else getting code expired?

    • 'standard reply'. Have you signed in?

      • Standard reply yes tryed 2 different accounts.

        • +1

  • well thats crap. forgot to complete the transaction and code expired. can we get a few more coupons that work?

  • It purchased from global.jd.com, somewhere like amazon, Chinese version, lol. fast and direct.

JD used to be China only but now deliver to world wide. Same on taobao.com which is similar to ebay

You will need Mandarin or Google translate

  • Code is expired. Yes I am logged in.

  • Bugger missed out…..expired code

  • How long does it normally take to get something delivered from GearBest?

    • +4

Depends on the weather and the strength of the person rowing the boat but normally two to three weeks

  • Expired !! Fast

  • Missed out. Any other deals to get this ?

  • +4

Try code GBCE. It won't be as cheap but close. You may be able to buy more than 1 item with that code and have them shipped at the same time like additional sensors
