Nikon AF-S DX 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 G EDII $68 at Harvey Norman, Caringbah

350

I saw this today at Harvey Norman in Caringbah (http://tinyurl.com/2ads9j4). This is reduced from $249, I did a quick search and couldn't find this cheaper anywhere, not even from importers.

Here is a review of the lens with sample photos, http://tinyurl.com/25ndd9k

For only $68, I think its a great deal for beginners like me.

Enjoy!

  • That is an awesome price. And it's AF-S as well.

Too bad I won't be needing one since it came with my single lens pack.

What is the world coming to, a nikon lens in a bargain bin?? thats like seeing a beatles album in a clearance bin. IT. JUST. DOESNT HAPPEN!!!

  • Well that's Nikon for you :)

I hope you realise that Nikon is a higher-end brand for cameras and lenses

  • I think this is the standard lens that comes with the single lens and double lens kits. Still a good price nonetheless.

    • you can save $200 off the lens kits and get the body only.
Add this up and you've saved $140 off the single lens kit bought separately and with australian warranty too.

  • They prob sold all the bodies and got stuck with the lenses
its a good price for the lens, which is why i have +
but you will only buy this lens as a kit for your very first dslr,
there will still be some people who will want to buy this lens. If I find it at my local HN, I might get it for infrared photography. otherwise, the market is rather small.

    • Well, most of the time…

      I bought a D700 and a 24-70mm f2.8 for my first DSLR. Nuts I know :P

  • Anyone know if this is available at all stores?

  • you can mod this to fit AF in full frame cameras and get a cheap ultrawide what works reasonably. just make sure the mirror doesn't hit the rear element.

  • Can I use it on Canon body, like EOS 500D?

    • canon and nikon mounts are different.

  • It's a great price but almost useless unless you wanted to replace an existing one that broke. Still, if I came across one at my local HN, would be hard to ignore!

It's usually a cheap lens and there are better (albeit more expensive) options.

wonder if a HN will price match another interstate HN?

    • If its exclusive to this store then i doubt it, since Harvey Norman are franchised. Let us know what happens.

  • knowing hn - they would've been from some bundle/promo from nikon, theyve split them and these are probably free stock selling at 100% profit.

Its just a lense, what about the rest of camera
    ?

    • these are for dslr's. don't expect a free camera with it. Nikon one's start from around $500-$600.

      • yeah if the lens is $68, i expect the body for $34… since it's the lens that does most of the work…

        • whoa you're way off there buddy, it's the sensor in the body that does most of the work in terms of getting a picture, the difference between a good lens and a bad lens is how much distortion when zooming, and how far it can zoom.

        • Usually goes like this:

          For low level lens:
          - Lens price < Body price

          For high level lens:
          - Lens price > Body price

          For high level body:
          - Lens price < Body price

  • Damn is there any point in going to Melbourne HN to try get this?

I mean, is there ANY chance at all?

  • This lens is at the lowest level of the Nikon range. Not worth getting. Better to spend an extra hundred on either a larger range of focal length or higher apearture.

  • No VR, then again you get what you pay for

this thread has turned into a penis contest

    • mines more biggest than yours

ITS NOT A PENIS CONTEST WITHOUT BALLS OF STEEL

  • Is this compatible with a canon? :p

  • Kit lenses except for Pentax are usually made of plastic, and are only useful as a paperweight, or a camera body cap.

  • can you use this on a Pentax?

  • Is this compatible with a IXUS?:P

Is this compatible with iphone 3GS?
