    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-GoPro-GPCHDHS-102-HERO-Sessi…

A hero session for $183 + ~$5 for delivery. Best I could find online was ~219.

    • +2

You can post that if you want. My title is already crowded as it is.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed a Mini Home!

  • Wow $300+ is the Netgear Orbi thing that effective?

      • +1

Just to clarify, the reviewed Orbi is the more expensive version with the router & full satellite ( which I currently own and can fully recommend ).

        • Thanks for the clarification.

    • +1

I have the AC3000. Yes it's expensive but it does what it promises, to give you fast and complete wi-fi coverage around a large home.

You would only need it if your NBN box is at the front in the garage, you don't have an ethernet cable to the middle of the house and you wanted 90Mbps while sitting in the backyard :)

I paid $440 for the AC3000 in one of the ebay promotions.

    • I'll be getting mine for free with one more $50 shop at Woolies next week.

      • Probably find you need more then one unless you live in a small apartment

        • Why's that?

I've lived on less than one so far. I'm only interested since I'm not paying for it.

I don't even know what applications you can use it for that I can't already do with Google Voice.

I'm not interested in using it to play music or stream anything.

        • @lostn: Home automation

        • @asa79: Would you need to buy a bunch of other products to be compatible with it?

I'm not interested in changing all of my light bulbs to Google light bulbs for example.

        • @lostn: If you not willing to change, then it wont do anyting for you.

https://www.techwalls.com/setup-xiaomi-lights-google-home-as… Xiaomi Yeelight are as little as $10 AUD or $20ish for Colour ones

        • @asa79: Does the Yeelight need its own switch for you to be able to turn it on with your voice? I've always found that colored light to be very gimmicky. Supports like 16M colors but all I want is cool white.

One day when everyone's houses are automated and people can't be bothered to get up to flip a light switch, we're all going to be overweight lazy bastards.

  • According to the Google store, the home mini 'speaks Australian'?

    • +10

      Straya!
Maybe it’ll understand “yeah nah, open the esky and pass us a cold one”

      • "Cheers c***"
        "No worries mate"

        • +1

"Waddayyatalkinabout" & "yooooo fackin druggo" would be the best thing thing I'll ever hear from an Aussie Google home.

        • +1

@XII-19: Sassy the Sasquatch. love it!

  • +1

Could be intersesting for the summer!
'Hey Google, why is the Australian Cricket team so bad'?
    'We play like Bullcrap, mate'

    'Ok, thanks Google'.

  • Always comes out with errors when getting it from certain stores.. argh..

  • Can you update a link for the chromecast audio?

  • +1

Note, I think it's still true that the Home won't cast your local music to a chromecast - only streaming services.

Echo Dot isn't much better - they really want you to sign up to a $10pm service for the rest of your life.

    • When you ask it to “play music” it’ll ask you how you want it to play - through the mini speaker itself, chromecast attached to tv connected to surround or any other speaker if you have a chromecast audio attached to another set of speakers.

Upload your own music library to Google Music (20 or 50k song limit these days) and play it that way. No need for a subscription if you’re against paying each month.

  • Great post! Thanks, I have now ordered for pickup a Home Mini.

  • Is there much difference between the Mini and the full size one, other than size?

    • No difference in assistant functionality, no.

    • Not in terms of google assistance functionalities

But the full size has much better sound quality (eg. better bass)
And it is capable to pair as a bluetooth speaker and play music directly from popular music streaming service
such as spotify, google play music etc.

      • On the fullsize I am able to tell it to play stuff from my Spotify - are you describing something different?

        • this is what I mean, Google home can play music from spotify directly :)

        • +2

@kungbernard: You can on the mini as well.

    • The speaker setup is different. Mini is a single top firing speaker, while the full size one is like bit like a Logitech UE Boom - it spreads sounds in a 360 degree arc.

    • Speakers are much different. The Full sized is better (obviously). They only bought the Home Mini out after Amazon's success with their Echo Dot (the mini) and needed to compete against it in price ($50 USD).

  • Keep getting "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again." when trying to checkout with a Google Home Mini :(

Tried the website and the app. I buy hundreds of things on eBay and never have issues usually.

    Anyone know what's going on?

  • Thanks OP!

    I posted this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/338531

Was gonna pull at $50, but figured this was good enough.. hahaha

    Bought, C&C.

    • Dunno wtf is up for me. Getting "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again." when I checkout.

      Driving me nuts

      • I had that once, then tried again and it worked.

First time I added it to a cart, second time I used the "buy it now" link and that worked.

        • I've tried like 10 times.

Tried buying the $20 sandwich press and that worked first go.

It's an issue with the google home mini. I'm trying click and collect from my local good guys. It says it's in stock, but getting that error.

Might try a different store, or bite the bullet and pay $5 shipping, but that isn't the ozbargain way :)

        • @chromium:

Sux, did you try using a full website, not your mobile?

Seems others have had problems with their mobile.

        • @lozza6:

I tried everything then one time it just randomly worked. Picked up the Home Mini after work :)

        • @chromium:

          Yay, glad you got it!

          I love mine!

Now i'm already thinking of downgrading this to the bedroom and getting the home for the lounge… haha

  • +2

Thanks OP got Charcoal Google mini. My main reasons for buying Mini over Google Home (if anyone is contemplating the same):-
    1. Small Size Factor
    2. Low Power Consumption (Micro USB vs DC Power Supply for Google Home)
    3. I have a Soundbar that is Cast Enabled (I have also heard that the mini will/can also pair with other bluetooth speakers but cannot confirm this)
    4. Almost Half the price of the Cheapest Google Hoe Advertised recently (Google home was sometime back available for $121)

    • +1

I actually think it doesn't. I think they're trying to force you to get the Chromecast audio unfortunately.

It does have BT but only to play audio from your device like a regular BT speaker.

Thats what I've gathered, but happy to be corrected though.

      • I suspect you are right but at least if you have cast enabled devices like - Xiaomi Android TV or a soundbar then the decision to buy this is not that bad…I hope :). Only time will tell before my wife spots this button on my entertainment unit.

        • If its like the regular google home, yeah you can cast to android tv no issues. This is how I listen to music when I tell google assitant to play something, because rather listen on my theatre speakers than the google home speakers.

        • @so3n: hmm unfortunately Netflix has not allowed google home to play videos on Android TVs like Xiaomi yet. How do I know it.. Just tested it. :

        • @smarter_fool: Doesnt it support casting netflix?

        • +1

@asa79: it does support casting to Netflix but not to xiaomi mi box 3.

        • @smarter_fool: That sux. Hopefully that comes in the future

      • +1

if he has a soundbar with cast enable you can set another cast audio device as the default audio device.

so request/commands and reply will always come out of home device but if you ask for audio it will come out of the default audio source

    • How are you guys getting the mini?

I've been trying for an hour using click and collect from 2 different stores and get "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again." Every time!

Tried buying the sandwich press and that worked first go

      • Something wrong means no stock on that store

        • It said it was in stock, tried next closest store (8 km instead of 1 km) and that didn't work either.

Tried again a few times, it eventually worked and I got an email saying it's ready to pick up :)

      • I changed stores and got it from the second closest instead. EBay's API is crap (it also does this for Bing Lee as well when they run out of stock).

    • +6

      Cheapest Google Hoe

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • Low Power Consumption you know its a speaker you want some power to push sound

    • +1

+! for mentioning the Google Hoe

  • Can the google home mini be used to power up and play spotify on a portable bluetooth speaker like a UE Boom?

    • +2

      power up and play spotify

      Yes

portable bluetooth speaker like a UE Boom

No. The bluetooth on the Home Mini can only be used to stream music from a phone to the mini, but the mini will not stream out to a bluetooth speaker.

      • that's a bummer. I've got a UE Megaboom so it would be a bit pointless to play music on the Mini I guess.

  • THanks operator, got a Google Home Mini - Charcoal

  • Out of stock for Google Mini
Edit: nevermind. Logged in to ebay and managed to get one.

    • AU $68.20 get it delivered if you can

  • Thanks OP…just ordered the Google Home Mini Charcoal to supplement my main Google Home.

  • Thanks OP. Finally got the GHM

  • Going to wait until the Google Home mini comes in my cereal box.

    • +1

I don't think it's that advanced yet, plus that wouldn't taste so good 🤔

  • +2

had problems checking out with 3 x charcoal but the chalk still works, i think they are getting hammered.

  • +1

just bought the chalk, charcoal didn't work :(

  • +6

I called up office works and advised them that im getting for 63.can you beat it ?? …my nearest one was being a preek and refused..I called up the second closed and they got it for 60.4 after beating good guys…

now thats a good bargain mates !

    • +2

Daymmnn Im upset I didnt think of doing this.

    • Do you have a receipt you could share? It's for th good of the realm

  • Purchased. If I tried to buy using my mobile it said that no stock was left. Had to use the normal website.

  • "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again." I couldn't check out on the mobile and have been farting around on the desktop for a while now. Empty the cart, load the cart, checkout with PayPal or Credit Card and it fails when being processed every time :(

    • Try the ebay app? If you want to search directly, item number is
      122770894243 (black)
      or
      142548696483 (chalk)

      • That's how I started off. I used the Ebay app on my iPad first, added a chalk mini home and a chromecast audio, selected the store (shows in stock), applied the code, logged into PayPal, failed.
I've been on the desktop for a while and the cart shows both items removed after the checkout fails. Ebay has been trouble free for many years, but I guess everybody is trying to grab a bargain?

        • Ipad app, Android app, several browsers on my desktop, 2 browsers on my laptop and then tried getting the wife to buy it with her eBay account and every time I get "Something went wrong. Please try to check out again."

This deal is just not happening for me :(

        • @NatDan: means the particular colour and store/online dont actually have stock. I had the same issue this afternoon. I had to change to the chalk colour at my local store to get it through. Seems ebay does a very bad job of checking the actual stock prior to the final purchase step and then you get this error.

        • @fefris: Bingo! Cannington doesn't have the chalk mini while Cockburn does. Order placed (finally) and pickup tomorrow.

  • Wee, picked mine up already!

    Way faster than GearBest ^_^

  • +1

Thanks, got my Mini's. House should be covered enough now with 2 Mini's and a Home.

  • When trying to buy using Paypal. Even though the total says $63.20. Paypal wants to confirm an order for $79. Is that normal?

  • after setting up mine, i went into "offers" in the home app (on andriod) and can see a 6month youtube red offer. FYI

    • yah they offer this to everyone, it unfortunately does not apply to those who already have it…….

      • If you are already on it, would you would need to stop the subscription or wait for the next billing period and then apply YT Red?

I still have a 4 month trial active till 27 Nov, and it's not extending it by another 6 months after hitting redeem

  • For those considering the NetGear Orbi - don’t confuse with the RBK50, this isn’t a mesh system. Also, get a free satellite device via redenmption http://www2.netgear.com.au/orbibetterwifi/

  • This thing works great! Even picks up my voice with music blaring at 10!

Love just saying "Hey Google, Stop!"

Cuts down on the waffling :P

  • Why is everyone getting the charcoal color over the chalk color?

    • I think more Chalk have been sold.
436 Chalk to 243 Charcoal. I bought 1 of each.
Chalk for the bedroom where we want lighter colours. Charcoal for in the lounge where you want it to blend. The colour of the original google home is nice too, although you can buy replacement colours, very expensive though.

    • I got the chalk actually.

  • Having all sorts of drama trying to order the Google Home Mini via Click and Collect, orders aren't going through.

Edit: ebay told me that The Good Guys have reached some sort of limit on their PayPal account, so everyone should be having this issue?
