I used the Klook app for entry tickets (inc Gardens by the Bay) seems a bit cheaper than buying at the venue.
In my experience taxis were cheaper than Uber and Grab was cheaper than both.

Singapore is too small to worry about Changi taxi fares :)

  • UberX works well from the airport. Reasonable fare as well, I paid less than SGD $20 to the Raffles shopping centre area of the city. Watch out for surge pricing though, I noticed it was nearly double the cost somewhere between 5.30pm to 7pm.

    • good point. ill be reaching midnight/early hours 00:00-02:00

Watch out for taxi availability (and pricing) at different times of the day. Most taxi drivers take a break near the end of the off-peak session, in readiness for the peak session (when prices also rise), and they can be extremely difficult to find.
If you are staying at a hotel, they may be able to help but they also find it difficult.

Peak is 6am to 9:30am, and 6pm to midnight = additional 25% of metered fare.
After midnight is additional 50% of metered fare.
Other surcharges apply to the airport and certain locations.

The train system (MRT) is excellent, cheap, and air-conditioned.

    • thanks mate.

For food - eat at hawker centres and coffee shops, and not restaurants. It's cheap and authentic food and each location will have so much variety that you'll be spoiled for choice (my personal favourites are chicken rice and hokkien mee!). One plate will usually cost anywhere between $2 and $6 SGD.

I highly recommend trying Tian Tian Chicken Rice in the Maxwell Food Centre and Hawker Chan's Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken in Chinatown. Both are cheap, taste so good, and the latter is Michelin starred!

I second the suggestion for Klook for tickets, used it myself in both Singapore and Hong Kong and will definitely use it again.

In terms of transport, the MRT is definitely the cheapest way to get around and is very convenient. Most stations are connected to a major shopping centre. If you're feeling too lazy and need a taxi, I also found Grab tended to cheaper than Uber and local taxis (you can also book a local taxi through Grab if needed).

If you need a SIM, the Singtel hi!Tourist $15 SIM card was the best value when I was there in July, 100GB of data with 500 mins of local calls, 100 SMS and 30 mins international calls to get by. SIM is valid for 7 days.

Hope that helps a bit! Give me a shout if you need more info.

No worries - forgot to mention that to use the MRT you can either purchase single trip tickets or get an EZ-Link card (equivalent to Sydney's Opal card) which you can find at most MRT stations and 7-11s. However the card itself costs $5 to purchase, i.e. you pay $12 and they give you the card with $7 travel credit on it. If you plan to travel around a lot the EZ-link card will be more worth it and also more convenient than single trip tickets, and you can re-use the card if you return to Singapore within 5 years.

I just went to Singapore. We took the MRT from Changi. It was surprisingly easy and convenient. It only costs $1.67.

    • Got lot of luggage and reaching there at midnight

      • Also re: discount tickets, check if your hotel has some sort of promotions.

We stayed with Carlton Hotel and didn't realise they had daily promos for various tourist attractions until the last day. Paid $33 for the cable cars in Sentosa, rather than the $22 deal Carlton had for us :(

        • staying at friends place :)
