rendezvous on 09/11/2010 - 19:42 ¶Thats probably because it was made in japan. The newer batches are made in countries with cheap labour eg Malaysia
Trance N Dance on 09/11/2010 - 19:55 ¶serious? I thought all Sony TVs were made in Japan…. I guess my info is old….
wolfenator87 on 10/11/2010 - 05:52 ¶I thought it was due to LCD panels becoming more ubiquitous and technology maturing, hence the global price drops. This should happen to 3D and LED technologies in the coming years.
Trance N Dance on 09/11/2010 - 16:08 ¶55" 1.6k is that right?
damn i remember payinh twice that for a 46" two years ago….
Yeah I was looking for a tv around $1200 and first looked at the 40".
Then I saw this sale and realised I can get a 46" with my budget.. but that 55" price is tempting me too much!
I'm going to make a purchase on Friday so I've got a couple of days to listen to the angel and devil either side of my head.

I'm guessing that the 5% staff discount can also be applied to this as well? (By replacing the QFF number section with staff number instead).
Or have they changed it since they moved over to the new dicksmith domain?Might have to convince friend for their number if that's the case…

Totally agree - always buy the last off the line. I bought the last of the 76cm CRT TVs 6 years ago for $600 when my friends were paying $3000 for a basic and only slightly larger plasma. IMO that TV has a better picture (especially contrast-wise) than my Mum's Sony 80cm 3 month old LCD. Last week I bought a 50" Samsung plasma for under $700, delivered! The trick is not to believe the hype until the technology has matured.
-3 votesI agree. I bought an 80cm Loewe crt tv on ebay for $150 and couldn't be happier with the picture. The colours are just amazing. I'm still not convinced about the new tvs. I must admit I haven't spent a great deal of time looking in the stores, but the large tv in the Crown Metropol hotel where I stayed last week had horrible depth of field, and the movement of people on screen appeared to be almost robotic, or 'CG'. I'm quite happy to keep my crt and watch my $3000 grow at 7% compound. Roll on the negs from people defending their $3000 'investments'…..

Reply to Rod71 - I just checked and my 'beautiful picture' crt is on the recall list. I'd rather be eating humble pie than putting out a housefire, or worse, so thank you for the information on the recall. It looks like I'm off to join the masses at a large retailer this weekend and buy a large screen tv.

Might save ~$300(ie $50 less than Dick Smith) off KDL40HX800 if you buy it from JB hifi on 10th nov 2010 after 6pm.
Chris McMahon on 09/11/2010 - 17:00 ¶KDL55EX500 - 55” FullHD 100Hz LCD - $1599.20
$1600 for a 55"EX500, with free delivery, is a pretty good price.
Chris McMahon on 10/11/2010 - 19:27 ¶I tried to order the 55"EX500 today, but as others pointed out, it's gone up.
So went to JB HiFi tonight to see if I could get a price match during the 15% off sale. I had a printout from DSE with the 55"EX500 for $1600 delivered.
Best JB could do was $1700 delivered.

Chris McMahon on 09/11/2010 - 18:54 ¶Did you actually go to the site and enter your postcode for a delivery estimate? I did. It was free - "Delivery Charge $0.00"
striker999 on 09/11/2010 - 18:54 ¶Really unco?
I went to checkout typed in my address etc. and when it got to payment screen it said free delivery $0.00
so i was assuming that meant $0 delivery fee? haha
Trance N Dance on 09/11/2010 - 19:58 ¶It's always been like that. All monitors/Tvs are measured by their diagonal length.
+1 votenewington07 on 09/11/2010 - 21:00 ¶Bought Samsung Plasma 50" for $1150, got Blu Ray Home Theatre free. 5 months back.
lang_tu_syd on 09/11/2010 - 23:42 ¶That's amazing! Where did you get that? I bought a 50" Plasma PS50B850 Samsung for $1500 6 months back.
newington07 on 10/11/2010 - 07:28 ¶It was end of financial year sale (or probably they wanted to get rid of old models). Got in June. Mine is same series but B550.

I think you're right, I've waited this long to upgrade (got a 37" Toshiba LCD for $2600 back in '06), so holding out for a few more months isn't going to matter much to me.
I'm definitely going for at least 46" LCD next, and I couldn't care less about 3D or edge lit LED, so that should play right into my hands niceley, mwuahahahahah.

Damn it, so do I get this or not? I'm eye-ing the 55" one.. I'm not in the market for 3d, led, or all that stuff.. I currently have a non-full-hd 40" Samsung, and all I want is full hd, some form of motionflow, and a bigger screen.. I can totally dig the 46", but at this price, why not go overboard for the 55"? But my real question is, will there be a guarantee that these will fall even further after Christmas? Would I be best to wait, (also considering these are Sony's.. what's the warranty on this, actually?) or might this be kind of as good as it gets? Thoughts?

Well it will be a long time before you can get it for significantly less!
$1599 with free delivery is an AMAZING price. Consider that at JBHiFi even with their 15% off sale the cheapest you will get it for is $1700 plus delivery charge of $70. I think it's safe to say that this is 1 deal which won't be bettered this year and if it is well it won't be by much! I'd hop aboard the train and don't look back :)
quanyeomans on 10/11/2010 - 04:45 ¶I called my local store (Erina) about this deal and they said that it's also available in their "Large Stores" (the old Powerhouse stores I think). So my plan is to go in and eyeball the different sizes so i can figure out whether to get the 55" or just the 46". I'm only going to be sitting about 3m from the TV so 55 might be total overkill.

I just purchased the LG 50PK550 a few days ago from Binglee for $1100 and will get a free 22" LCD as part of the promotion that I will probably sell for $200 or something. I'm stoked with the deal I got but part of me wishes I could have gotten the 55" Sony at this price… and extra 5" is always handy :)

You're right, I opened the page up in another browser and it's showing the standard prices now.
I called up though and spoke to Rebecca and she put the order through for me over the phone at the online special price.Online Customer Service Team:
1300 366 644 (8am - 6pm Monday to Friday AEST)Phew! Close call!
They had it written there in red writing that offer would end on the 14th, I even printed out the ad yesterday, dodgy!
+1 voteYesterday I printed out the Dick Smith online page for the 46EX500, 40EX600 and 55EX500.
I can scan these if anyone wants a copy to try and get places to price match.
The printed ad shows that it's valid until 14th November. My friend who works in the TV section in JB Hifi Doncaster (VIC) said that they generally will price match without hopping on the website to double check, especially if the date is written there.
I guess you gotta try to know though!
+1 voteRebecca is the one I spoke to earlier this morning too! The sale over the phone went through ASAP and I get the invoice in my email immediately :)
Sorry a tad late but in case you still need this one.

I just got mine just then. Cheers!

I'm looking in the latest VIC Retravision catalogue I got in the post, page 10 bottom left.
They have a "Sony 46" NX710 3D BRAVIA LED TV" for $2299. This is eligible for the PS3 3D pack too. Cheapest I can find is well over 2.5k. Hmmm.
By the time you add the value of the PS3 etc, this is quite a good deal for a TV with all the latest features no?

quanyeomans on 10/11/2010 - 14:03 ¶Guys, this sale is listed on their Facebook page as available in "Larger Full Range Stores" this weekend. If you ant to save yourself the hassle then just go into store and pick one up. My local (Erina) has heaps in stock and are happily holding a 55" for me until i can get in Thursday night to pick it up.
http://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia <-this has an image of the ad.

I just called the customer service number and the lady who picked up said she knew about the 'update'. She said that there was a fault in the system, and she was taking the details of anyone interested in the special online prices. The details would get passed on to the supervisor and then he/she will contact the buyers.
I made an order for the 40" Sony for $799. Hope it turns out well!

Dick Smith being really dodgy again after the Wii remote debacle.
KDL40EX500 - 40” FullHD 100Hz LCD - $799.
Yesterday it was $799 save $159 , which makes the original price $958 without their promotion discount???????? It's now $1199????????? So they increased the pricing beyond the 'original price'?
From past experience I'm sure they'll deny this and probably say it's easy for us to 'create' printouts of the deals that we have.

Purchased the KDL50EX500 at Dick Smith's in Innaloo, WA. If you look at the stores, you might still be able to get them from today til Sunday, but only the bigger ones.. this one had already sold out, but the guy told me he'd get one shipped from Rockingham, which was brand new and sealed. I also got the additional 4 yrs warranty for 200 more, hell I figure I'll be happy with this tv anyway for the next 5 years, so might as well make sure it's covered.

Just got Clive Peters To price match the KDL32EX500 got it for $640 very happy as they had it on "special" for $850 there :) theres no chance it will go cheaper than $640 Christmas special time and boxing day they will be all sold out. if you can get these special dick smith prices i would get it now Trust me Christmas specials/boxing day isnt going to be big this year for electricals a birdie on my shoulder told me next year is going to be insane though :) but of course i could be talking porky pies believe me or not your choice! Sony is after all #1 for quality TV's youd be mad not to buy these at this price..
P.S dick smith got alot of complaints from other stores thats why they removed the prices.. these prices are insanely low.

still remember I bought a Sony 40 Full HD LCD this time last year for $1600 :(
