Can't think of a better time to get the Ordinary foundations since ASOS currently has 14-15 shades out of the full 21 shade range in stock and there's 30% off. I've been waiting for months for the Ordinary foundations to come to Australia but there is still no E.T.A. The waitlist was 25,000 long before launch and it goes in and out of stock from various US and UK retailers including the official site.

They come in yellow to pink tones from light to dark. Choose coverage foundation for full coverage and serum foundation for light to medium coverage. The shade guide on the official site may be helpful. If you know your MAC shade, this is MAC to The Ordinary table is useful. You can also just buy the coverage foundation (if your shade is in stock), then mix in some serum if you feel like going lighter coverage on certain days - this trick works well.

For retinols I've used their 2% retinoid which is a retinol derivative with no irritation compared to retinol. Their high quality rosehip oil is also excellent for skin health and balances out oily/combo skin.

I've raved about The Ordinary in other deals, plenty of information online including youtube reviews. Here's a youtube review from Wayne Goss.

  • I purchased both types of The Ordinary foundation a while back from ASOS and have to say not impressed at all. There do seem to be a lot who love it though.

    • Oh really? Mind sharing what the issues were?

I found by the end of the day both looked awful. Kind of sank into my skin and looked blotchy. I tried their primer (both types), no primer, different brand primers - nothing helped. I applied with brushes, sponges, fingers. I have a bit of a collection of foundations - nothing too expensive - and I don't think any of them are as bad.

Funny I actually put more effort into trying out these foundations than any other. I think because I had seen so many reviews where people loved them and thought I must be doing something wrong.

I use quite a bit of their skincare and I am happy with that. I also like the high adherence primer which I use most days.

        • Oh I see, sorry to hear that :( Sounds like you know what you're doing and it really didn't work for you.

          @moocher:
I don't want to discourage anyone from buying though. I've seen a few reviews where people didn't really like it - but there are so many who do so I think it's still worth a go as it's so cheap.
I was really happy with the colour which made me a bit sad that it didn't work. I am very pale and I found their lightest shade with pink undertones is great.

        • @chichi: Thanks for your honest feedback, it's a bit disappointing when you have high hopes for something from reviews and then it doesn't work out :(

  • That's what i find with most of The Ordinary products, people either LOVE them or they HATE them - there never seems to be a middle with them (this is for their skin care range)

Yes agreed. I think many struggle with the huge range too. It takes a bit of research to work out what to get as many of us are used to using one product rather than layering different things.
I'm still working my way through most of the range with a few I doubt I would bother with. My son uses the Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid Suspension and I really like those as well as the Squalane.

      • Yeah agree, it's only for those who are willing to do the research to understand what the ingredients are, and a bit of trial and error to see which products suit, and as you say, also willing to layer products.

  • thanks, bought 3 of those to try.
    2% retinoid in squalane
    100% plant-derived squalane
    Rose hip seed oil

Never used any skincare products before though :P

    • Have fun trying them:) Just note that retinoid is only recommended at night time as it makes your skin more susceptible to sun damage. You'll probably need to use these 3 products separately as they are all oil-based.

and don't forget sunscreen during the day! (Priceline/Chemist warehouse stock decent face suncreen too)
