Car Brokers- Experiences and Recommendations

Hi All

We are looking to purchase a new Hyundai Tucson later this year, and considering using a car broker to buy for us.

Main reason is that we are relocating to the Sunshine Coast after living overseas for a few years, so hoping that they can get most things organised before we arrive back in the country to speed things up. Other reason is that most dealers seem to be in the Brisbane area, so getting down to there and comparing/ negotiating would be much harder for us.

Has anyone used a broker before or could recommend one?

Thanks

  • Try searching on youtube for "John Cadogan Auto Expert". Covers lots of automobile topics for Australia and his car buying service.

    • +1

      He's a bit of a tool too.

  • Brokers are a parasite to both the buyer and the dealer.

They charge you a fee for the service, and charge the dealer anywhere from $500 to a % of the price. Both these charges obviously affect your best possible deal.

My advice would be a week in a rental car and buy the used car yourself. Just get around in a Corolla, spend a day (or less) looking at cars, then go for it! Most dealers should have the car ready to go the same day, or the next.

    • Thanks very much for the tip.
