Free "Whatsapp" Application for NOKIA - Free for The First Year Only

131

WhatsApp Messenger is a smartphone messenger available for iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and Nokia phones. WhatsApp uses your 3G or WiFi (when available) to message with friends and family. Switch from SMS to WhatsApp to send and receive messages, pictures, audio notes, and video messages at no cost (see moderator clarification below). Free for the first year!

The last time I checked Ovi Store, you get charged for downloading this app. But now, you can download it for free for the first year - I've just downloaded this app yesterday. I'm not too sure what will happen after first year finishes though. I have been using whatsapp for iPhone for quite sometime and I personally think its a good app.

1) You first have to sign in,
2) Click 'send to mobile', you will get a sms (which you will be charged as normal SMS - $0.28 for 3 customers) with the link to download it.
3) Open the link
4) Download the app (you can save on data charges if you download using WIFI)
5) Install and you're ready yo use Whatsapp.

Hope this will benefit some of you.. :)

mod - such applications typically use your Internet allowance, to transfer the media.

Once you have used up your Internet allowance, you will be paying excess fees.

    • im not sure..

i used the trial whatsapp for blackberry before. after the trial is over, the program just stop working, ie. you cant send or receive messages. you only be charged if you wish to continue using whatsapp. so i guess it should be similar for the nokia as well?

    • you don't have to pay anything now. You can stop using this when it asks for money(after 1 year).

But surely if you are habituated sending free texts to few near and dear ones with this, you can't stop using this even if it asks for 2-3$/year.

Its a great piece of soft, not comparable to skype/yahoo/fring/msn messenger or anything. It is always on. You don't need to login/logout every time you turn on or off your mobile.Just like sms/mms and FREE.

    • it basically uses your mobile number to create the account and will give you an expiration date. By next year it might even be free by then, or not.

It uses other mobile numbers stored on your phone to see who else has whatsapp.

only thing is it is always connected to the net, even though it doesnt seem to use much data. But would decrease battery time.

  • (So, what's the advantage - especially after the first (free) year passes - of this over, say, Skype?
    - which can run FREE using WiFi)

    • not everyone is signed into skype or has a skype. This will "push" a message similar to an sms without the need to log in.

It's useless for me since im with optus which gives me free sms/mms, not sure about the video messages though. But I have it so that my friends can send me texts/mms.

      • mainly for international friends and family
since its free for u and them (if have wifi or a data plan)

        • doesn't work for me, doesn't use 3G or can't connect to my wireless.. sucks :(

cool/useful application though, probably works for others

it's an absolute must-have app for all smartphones. It's basically an app which reduces the cost of Global SMS down to zero!! It's like BBM which you'd know that everyone on BB uses, except that this works on all phones. I reckon everyone should have it.

  • can it be used to make peer to peer free phone calls?

    • nope. only 'sms'.. or message
