        • I've never seen gift cards that you can top up like a reloadable prepaid card. Did you mean can you use a 7-Eleven gift card to top up an Opal card?

        • +2

[@kerfuffle] @JIMB0: Just read the T&C on reloadable. It seems none of the cards directly issued by 711 outlets are reloadable. They need to be made reloadable by requesting via the website.

          Establishing the reloadable 7-Eleven Card

2.1. The reloadable 7-Eleven Card is a financial product that we issue through the Website. You can obtain reloadable 7-Eleven Card product by registering on the Website and choosing to convert a 7-Eleven Gift Card to a reloadable 7-Eleven Card. We may allow a reloadable 7-Eleven Card to be established if you have not previously purchased a 7-Eleven Gift Card.

2.2. Activation occurs immediately upon registration where a 7-Eleven Gift Card is converted. If you activate a reloadable 7-Eleven Card without value from a 7-Eleven Gift Card, the reloadable card may not be activated until we receive the first loading in cleared funds.

2.5. A registered customer will not be allowed to reload value to a reloadable 7-Eleven Card if, following the transaction, the total value of all reloadable 7-Eleven Cards registered to them would exceed a cumulative balance of $200.

2.6. As a registered customer, you will not be able to register a reloadable 7-Eleven Card to your account if this would mean that more than 3 reloadable 7-Eleven Cards are registered to your Account .

3.1. Reloadable 7-Eleven Card value can be reloaded to the reloadable 7-Eleven Card by providing value to us in Australian currency at a 7-Eleven store or through the website, www.7eleven.com.au/giftcards. A reload function may also be available through the 7-Eleven Fuel App

3.3. The maximum amount of a single reload transaction is $80. No more than 2reload transactions are allowed per reloadable 7-Eleven Card per day and no more than 3 per week.

          @maverick1:

8.2. You cannot exchange a Gift Card for any other form of tender, cash or discount or use it to redeem any other form of tender, cash or discount. For example, you cannot exchange or redeem a gift card for any other form of gift card or payment product.

        • @JIMB0: Thanks mate- I was too lazy to continue reading…there goes my hope of buying a VISA GC hassle free…

        • @maverick1: It might still work and if it doesn't you could always buy petrol later on once your tank is empty from the BP deal.

It also mentioned you could only top it up once a day, max of 3 times a week and have a total balance of no more than $200.

        • @JIMB0: yeah - my plan was to buy a a $100VISA GC using one or multiple reloadable 711 card..have the offer on 6 of my cards..so that would have been 6X15 = $90 on the 711 card and rest $15 by any other means..

  • +1

Just bought a $45 gift card at 7-eleven Wangara WA.
split into 3x @$15. no issue at all. there is no restriction on the pos machine.

    • Hmmmmmm. What sort of gift cards do they have? I have four Amex cards so will get a $60 GC if possible.

    • They said gift car d is $20 $50 $75 , cant set a random amount.

    • just realized the gift card I bought is called "Coffee Gift Card". Can it only be used for purchasing coffee? T&C on the back doesn't state that though?

      • +3

You could probably get away with buying a cup of tea with it, maybe even a hot chocolate.

  • Does anyone know working hours of Relay (Newslink) store at Martin Place station? Couldn't find it on Google.

    • +1

      9-7 Mon-Fri
      9-5 Sat
      Close Sun

Lady told me in Relay. happy shopsmall friendly experience no attitude

      • Cheers. Was she happy to split the payment into multiple breaks?

        • yes. i top up my main opal card then buy two new card. friendly lady

      • 9? At a train station that's near all the legal and finance companies? That doesn't sound right … I would hope they opened at least at 7 or something …

      • leehungfei, those hours the lady (probably the same one from last night) told you are incorrect. I went to Relay Martin Place again just now and it was open. I thought it was weird that they opened at 9 …

        • +1

they said they open 6am to 7:30pm

        • @henestto: Now that sounds more legit 👍

  • 7-11 Chatswood mall wouldn't allow $15 Opal top-up. The only amounts are $10 or $20 so I opted not to recharge. Maybe I should have done $30 over 2 cards.

    • +1

Because assuming your Opal card is an Adult one, there's literally no function that will allow you to do $15 or even $10 and $5 on an Adult Opal card. $5 off $20 Opal recharge is better than nothing.

      • +1

I agree. That is what I did.

      • +1

I see. I thought that might be the case that's why I just politely left. I'll use it for petrol instead.

    • +1

Just get a $10 top up along with something else for $5.

  • For Newslink offer can we do one transaction of $60 and get $30 credit as was the case for recent woolworths and paypal offers? apology if this has already been asked and answered before, i scanned through the comments but can not see any mention of this.

    • +2

I have a feeling that only applies where it states "in one or more transactions". No one with the woolworths offer stated they did one transaction of $40 and got $10. However there were a few who did 2 x $20 and it came as one $10 credit.

      • Make sense. Better do 3 transtions of 20 each

        • +2

I did some 3 * $20 transactions but I have noticed the credits are turning up as 1 * $30.

        • +4

@SydneySwan: I will take the risk and try a $60 top up today and see how I go

        • +2

          @lokesh7: tried that, don't work

    • +3

I spent over $60 and the email only states I will receive a $10 credit.

      • +1

        Thanks Jimb0 for trying

  • Is there a manual register link for this?

  • Six * $20 spent topping up my Myki, six * $10 credits received. Thanks AMEX

  • +2

White haired lady at Relay at Martin Place wouldn't let me top up $40 on my Opal card over two AMEX cards as it wasn't between 10 and 5. She started to give me attitude when I said I worked between 10 and 5 …

    • +2

Got the same attitude from her a moment ago as well … ranted about how she makes no money from Amex opal top ups

    • +1

oh my. i had great experience there the other day… should I still go there top up now….?

      • Do it between 10 and 5! ;)

        • ok haha. whats the difference would make for them to top up not btw 10 and 5?

        • @leehungfei: Less customers. To be fair, there was a customer in front of me and a customer also topping up their Opal card behind me when I went after 6 …

        • +1

@kerfuffle: I went last week after 6 and the guy there was really nice and said to come back at lunch the next day to do multiple cards because it was just him after work and it was during peak hour, whereas in the middle of the day there are more staff.

      • lol. newslink central upstairs no probs 3x on a sunday

  • Anyone tried to split payment at the Melb/Syd/Bris airport ? Will be travelling end of the month, and would love to use it at the airport, but if they dont take split payment, then i have to ensure i use it at Flinders St for Myki :-)

  • Anything else worth buying from the Relay/Travel Essentials in Melbourne? Don't use Myki at all…

Anyone tried using 7-11 Gift card to purchase Visa GC or Westfield GC?

    • You need a myki to get to the other half of the store where all the good stuff is.

      • What good stuff? You can pm me if you prefer..

        • Magazines, lotto and scratch cards.

    • $50 prepaid visa card pay 54.95 over three cards get $15 credit back, just above 20% off
$50 westfield gift card (eftpos) pay 55.95 justs above 18% off

      • This refers to 7-11 right? I've done all the 7-11 ones.

  • +2

This my experience from 7-Eleven and opal top-ups at Newslink/Relay.
You can goto the convenience stores for 7-Eleven, not just petrol station ones. Their system allow maximum split between 3cards; 1st card, 2nd card, then balance.
Also you can’t purchase a Visa gift card with the 7-Eleven gift cards. I tried that and the machine declined it (with error message gift card not allowed or something).
For newslink today, all 3 central station ones only allowed topping up 1x$20 (sometimes 2), then they make you line up again if you want to top up more. You may get lucky with a nice staff though, if they are not busy. At Martin place, it’s true you can only top up 3x $20 between 10-5 (it’s their rule), after 5 they only allow 1x$20 and no more.

    • at newslink central upstair today, buy 3 $20 opal card. friendly lady. no shiet attitude to dealt with

  • +1

its such a pity that this travel essential offer come up right after shopsmall. got too much opal credits now to use up our amex cards. if not will use shopsmall on so many other stuffs than opal top ups n with those stupid surcharges!

    • +1

I beg to differ. I didn't bother with Opal on SS as 5 credits per card was easy to do. So I was delighted with the Travel Essentials offer where I have obtained $480 of credit for $240.

      • Wow had no idea there were stores outside of airports . I well I won't register for it as I can't see myself getting to city now

  • Can anyone please explain to me where is Relay (Newslink) store at Martin Place station? I went into a Newslink store just outside the ticket gates where leads you to Hunter Connection/ George Street , the guy behind the register said no Opal recharge machine there… Thanks.

    • +5

That sounds like you're at Wynyard station, not Martin Place.

      • +2

I was just about to say the same thing myself.

  • -1

OMG Yes, I am at Wynyard not Martin Place.

  • Just went for a midnight 7-11 run..tried my luck at 4 different stores in Syd CBD..got lucky the 4th time..
bought 3 fuel cards, two for $45ea & one for $30. Very patient and helpful staff..split payment over 8 cards without any issues..no visa gc available at the store..

    • If you need fuel in the future the 7-11 gift card works out better than visa gc anyway due to the card fees.

    • Which store in CBD? I tried few on pitt street only $25 $50 or $75

      • +1

        414 pitt st!

  • -1

Anyone got their cashback for gift card purchases at 7-11? According to the FULL offer terms and conditions, transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or voucher are not eligible?

    Cheers

    • Yes got it.

      • Great, thanks!

        • No worries.

  • Another 7-Eleven purchase idea:

Uber gift cards now available at select Woolworths and 7 Eleven stores.

  • Good deals, though literally all of them are useless to me. Lol

  • ref 7-Eleven offer was it a amex only issued cards offer or were bank issued amex cards allowed to register for it too? i cant remember and ive used all my amex issued cards and have a bank issued one left to use but cant remember if i was able to register it.

    • Yes.

  • got to martin place relay yesterday at noon serve by a mid age blonde lady. give me a roll of eye ball but process my three opal top up in a genuine cheerful manner.

    • +1

      She's a classic.

  • +1

Honestly can't believe that the Travel Essentials offer is still open to registrations. OzBargain, you've let the team down :P

    • Maybe everyone already has too much Opal/Myki credits to last a lifetime.

      • From Shop Small? Yeah that makes sense haha!

    • Plus the locations are either in the city or at the airport

  • Just went to use up my last Travel Essentials offer at Relay Martin Place but it's not open! Dunno if I can be bothered visiting again after I finish work at 6 …

    • +2

I gave up with the white haired lady.

      • Yeah I feel you. She was all Fine rather than Sure or No problem when I asked to top up $20 last time …

    • Relay in martin place closed since 24th December. But News link in central north concourse was open on 27th and I did opal top up for my 4 cards.
Please go non peak time and the staffs were ok. They told me come twice in queue. I have to do three more Amex cards. But I don't have Opal cards. I may go to SYDNEY airport and also use my priority pass.Is there any other better savings to buy in news link?

      • Thanks for letting me know! Can't be bothered going to Central to use up my last offer. I have too much Opal credit anyway.

You could buy $20 or $30 iTunes or Google Play gift cards if they sell them in Newslink (I know Relay Martin Place does for iTunes)

        • Thanks mate for good idea

    • Relay in Martin place closed today too.went to central north concourse and collected some sandwiches and drinks as my opal all topped already. They have iTunes cards in $50 and $100 denominations only. They refused to me to split on four cards for iTunes.I don’t know now what to redeem this offer.
I have three Amex cards with 9x20 saved offer due to redeem.
Can anybody give some ideas please?

      • How many opal cards can have by one person?

      • +1

Just buy another opal card and top that one up?

You can own multiple opal cards, but stick to using the same card each week if you're a regular commuter.

        • Unlike Myki cards which cost $6, Opal cards do not need to be bought.

        • @SydneySwan: No I meant just get another card and top it up.

  • +1

I can confirm that myki top ups at newslink at Flinders St triggered emails. $120 myki top up, two cards (offer allows 3 credits per card at the same merchant) so technically 60 back.

Minor note, one of my bank issued cards declined (same value transaction, same merchant, too close together) workaround was to do a $21 top up and retry

    Have fun @MathNerd

    • When did you do this? I was there just a few minutes ago. Kudos to the guy there, no attitude whatsoever.

      • Yeah the chick helped me. No qualms when the thing declined either, changed the amount and off we went

        • Yeah the myki topups I've had at this place have been the most pleasant transactions out of all the myki topups that I've done over November (Shop Small) and December.

Were you the guy in the white polo top and shorts that I saw walking out of the shop? :P

    • Any other gift cards there? Itunes or anything else?

      • Honestly I have no clue. I went straight for the myki top up

      • Probably not. They have a lot of magazines and snacks though!

  • +4

    Further updates:

The best way I found to use the 7-Eleven offer is to:

    • Go to the gift card section and pick up a 7-Eleven gift card (they come in all sorts of varieties [coffee card, fuel card, etc], but all of them are the same in terms of their system backend treatment).

    • Take it to the counter and ask them to load it up with $15.

    • Go to another 7-Eleven (or come back to the same one later), and ask them to topup your gift card by $15.

    • Repeat this with how many ever AmEx cards you have (do note that the T&Cs say that a card can only be topped up twice each day, so if you're desperate just pick up more gift cards and load them this way).

    • You now have gift cards that you can add into your 7-Eleven app.

    • Go to your 7-Eleven app, and assuming you're logged in, click the logo (which should be accompanied by a dollar amount) on the top right hand corner. Then click "7-Eleven Gift Card Transfer", type in the gift card number and PIN, and transfer across the entire balance of the physical gift card to your 7-Eleven app (which acts as a virtual gift card).

    • Rinse and repeat for all the gift cards you have, and you should now have a balance that you can use the Fuel Lock with.

I've bought only 2 physical gift cards, but topped them up successively over the past 1 and a half weeks or so. One card has $90 and the other $45. I just transferred their balances, this morning, to the app and have $135 to use. I set my location to Revesby South (ULP is 118.9c/L), and will fill up my tank this arvo at that price.

Stacking gift card discounts with a fuel price lock - that's professional.

    All the best everyone!
