Yes but not a very useful one. It's quite dim.

Does this work for the mate 10 pro as well?

  • is the oversea version of Huawei getting firmware updates promptly?

  • +2

    10 pro?

  • +5

Had bed experience with Huawei warranty and service, next to non existence, firmware update takes years after new version of Android released

    • +3

Up until the firmware part, it sounded like my bed experience with a bad tinder date the other week.

      • +1

So are you saying you didn't get a chance to get your android released?

        • +3

Tried to release over Facebook but even after manually Googling as hard as I could, I couldn't bust a Tweet.. so I had to go back to Myspace frustrated :(

    • +1

yep never buy huawei again. Waiting 5 weeks already to get sent a replacement for my nexus 6p already :(

      • Dammit. Was looking to get the Mate 10 Pro to replace my just-bootlooped 5x. Any recs for other phones maybe?

        • +2

i've heard Huawei make good phones (although gotta say my 6p has never been great) but factor into the price that you will basically get no warranty or after service at all. This is 5 weeks waiting with australian warranty - numerous phone calls, numerous threats to go to fair trading etc.

I'm not even the only one - go on whirlpool and you will see the experience is basically universal.

if this replacement doesn't come, my next phone will probably be 1plus5t. Not sure what their customer service exp. is though… but no point buying oz stock cause it means nothing to some of these companies

        • i would choose mate pro than any other phone. good battery and nice design. unfortunately, i still have plan with optus.

          Oneplus 5T

    • Hi,

I am a bit confused. If I purchase from mobileciti, Don't I go straight to them if there is anything wrong or do I need to contact Huawei Australia? Cheers.

      • +1

you go to mobileciti, they direct you to go to huawei - then the nightmare begins. Prepare to wait 5+ weeks.

mobileciti basically won't issue a refund / replacement until huawei approves it.

        • +3

Yep same here. I'm thinking just file at small claims court and they will probs give in.

        • @ZubatRingo:

Yep discussed with fair trading about this. Keep in mind they're in Sydney so you'll need to take them to small claims courts where they are based.

        • @witsa: are you sure? That's not what I was told. They likely won't turn up so was hoping for a default

        • @ZubatRingo:

this is just what the lady at Fair Trading NSW told me. Also turns out that Fair Trading NSW can't do anything - they're just there to "mediate" - the law basically has no teeth - it just has replacement or refund - nothing about who decides, how long they can take to give you a replacement is etc.

If they really wanted to screw you, your only remedy is small claims court.

        • @witsa: checked it out. Since they sell items in Perth, I can sue them in Perth. I was reading alot that large companies don't bother turning up to small claims, so there's a high success rate.

        • +1

          @ZubatRingo:

yeah? You should do it then - good luck! Let us know how it goes…

    • +1

Agreed. Never again for me. Nate 9 pro screen died after 5 months. Now trying to sort out warranty issues. eBay did jack. I had to file Paypal dispute after no action from eBay seller: qd_au.

      • +1

Purchased a P9 Plus from qd_au, and to be completely fair to them, have had nothing but great service and prompt responses from them.
Initially forgot to use a discount code, ask if I could re-purchase with the discount and refund the original, to which they agreed. Stupid me then put through a double order (so in total I had 3 orders for the same thing, don't ask), and they ended up fixing the whole thing right away.

A few months ago I also had to send it back for warranty (fast charging died), they quoted the typical 5-6 week turnaround, not too pleased but figured it had to go to NSW > Taiwan (qd) > China? (Huawei). Got it back in about 4 weeks, and they even sent it via Express Post which I had requested, hoping to get it back before leaving for holidays, unfortunately it arrived the day after I left.

The only thing I would have preferred, was if Huawei had replaced the whole phone, instead of just the insides (they reused the old case). Then again, that was just wishful thinking on my part, and also Huawei's choice, and not qd_au's.

Also recommended them to a friend who got a Mate 9 from them, and was happy with their purchase (no warranty issues, knock on wood).

        • Thanks for giving a heads up. This is making me feel more comfortable. 😄

        • +1

          @djcharliek:
No worries. My main concern was more so with Huawei, after hearing horror stories regarding warranties on the 6P battery, not so much with qd_au, at least going by my initial contact with them.

  • If you're after the 'mocha brown' version, can be had for $769 (with DWI $10 discount code) here:
    https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/huawei-mate-10-alp-l29-…

1 year warranty, free postage. Have purchased from them before, fast shipping, reputable, never had a warranty issue so can't comment on that but they will cover courier charges to both pick up the item and return to you which many won't do.

    • For $20 more rather have AU stock with 2 year warranty

      • +1

That wasn't my point, black only available locally, I was giving an option if someone was after the mocha brown colour :)

Also according to a post above, maybe the local Aus warranty isn't that great anyway?!

    • What's the code?

      • Sign up to their email newsletter and they will send it through.
Alternatively see if either of these work: DWIHAPPY1508 or rmn2014 (thanks to Google)

        • thanks.

  • I bought my Huawei mate 8 several years ago. Had iPhone, Galaxy, Xiaomi etc. and mate8 is the best mobile in my experience.

    • Still using mate 8 and the battery life is just amazing. I'll get Mate 10 when it's below 700 mark.

  • Do any b&m stores in Melbourne stock Mate 10? Gonna check it out first before committing.

    • At JB, but they don't have a display unit.

    • Jb hifi

    • +1

JB hi-fi at airport west got the display unit out for me so certainly one there.

  • +3

Mate.. For a second I thought there was a "cheaper" model without a camera. I was like lol who would pay $788 for a phone without a camera?? I then read the whole thing over again and realised my mistake :D

Also, I am genuinely disappointed there is no MATESARSE promo code :(

    • +1

I too did not read it and thought you could buy a cheaper phone without a camera, which seemed insane.

  • +1

When the Mate 10 drops below $700 that's the time to get one

  • aside from this phone, are there any other androids with the finger print scanner on the front, and expandable memory, and 3.5mm jack?

    • Nope!

  • +2

would love a deal on the mate 10 Pro

    • Likewise, but I think people want to get rid of the mate 10 stock prior the release of the mate 10 pro.

  • Wait for ur pro deal

  • I had mine from a previous deal a few weeks back at $790 and am very happy with it.
    Pros
    * Great battery life. easily last a whole day from 6am to 10pm with 30-40% left.
    * Dual sim. I had personal(voda) and work phone(telstra) at the same time.
    * The fingerprint sensor is unbelievably fast. Much faster than the S6 I had before. It is at the front, which makes so easy to just look at it at work.
    * Great camera. Next to none focus time. Very sharp images as well. Better than wife's iPhone 7 for sure.
    * Headphone Jack!
    Cons
    * the weird scaling issue for the widgets and notification bars. They are too big and cannot be reduced. Hopefully will change with the further software update.
    * the notification light is tiny, and cannot change colors without 3rd party software.
    * No wireless charging
    * The unit is heavy. Maybe due to the big battery inside.

    • work phone(telstra)

Can you confirm VoLTE is working with Telstra network? Thanks

      • sorry not sure how to check… My old S6 had a little symbol, but this one does not. I could not find the any setting for it either.

        • Phone normally shows "4G" or "LTE" indicator. If this symbol changes to 3G when you make/receive phone call then it does not support VoLTE.

        • @ReadOnly:
by your definition, I don't think VoLET is working.

        • @Donkeyface: Thanks for trying
