Pro gamer* Buys blue Yeti mic, plays dota2, continues to only ping and does not talk to team 🤔

    • +22

I came here for a good bargain and frankly I'm feeling very attacked

      cyka blyat

  • Cue condesnor v dynamic mic debate

    • I'll bite, which type of mic is better?

      • -1

Dynamic theoretically, but everyone says condenser as it's just so much easier to use.

        • Condensers easier to use? I think you've got that backwards!

        • +2

@ethan961: I have no idea what any of this means but I disagree!

        • +2

Other way around. Condensors sound a lot better, but require phantom power (48V DC). They're also a lot easier to break.

Dynamics - less sensitive, less detailed sound, don't need phantom.

          Handheld mics are normally dynamic..

        • @RI4V4N: LOUD NOISES!

        • @RI4V4N:
          I agree

      • Depends on the use case. In a live event, you'll probably see more dynamic mics and in a studio, you'll probably see more condensors.

Dynamic can be better for rock vocals, loud percussion instruments, anything exposed to high sound pressure levels. They also tend to be much more durable. Condensors can be better a reproducing speech and vocals of other genres.

For the average joe, get a condensor if you're doing podcasts, or recording instruments/singing. Get a dynamic if you're doing karaoke (cause an SM57 is durable enough to get run over by a truck)

    • +1

Dynamic mic's have their place, but why would you want to mess around with one if you're sitting at a computer trying to play a game etc? Move your head 2cm in any direction any nobody will be able to hear you.

      • You’re talking about polar patterns which is completely different to transducer type.

I've had a blue yeti for ages. Been podcasting on it for years, used to cop shit from my overwatch teammates because i sounded too clear. Takes some dicking about to setup correctly but I'm a fan of it. Not an audio engineer or anything, just anecdotal.

    • +2

Would you say it's good for podcasting with two people?

      • It's got a bi-directional mode, so yes.

      • +2

It supports omni-directional (i.e. picks up sound from all sides), so depending on how you do your interviews - e.g. sitting on opposite sides of a table - that would help.

If you just want the microphone, amazon has it for $156 delivered, or you can get it locally from jbhifi for $168.

Personally, I'm always a bit wary of "pro gamer" headphones.

        • These headphones are not 'gaming' headphones. There is no virtual surround sound built into them or anything like that. The bundle is a 'professional gaming' bundle, because gaming streamers use this equipment.

        • I'm always a bit wary of "pro gamer" headphones.

And yet you're buying "podcasting mics"

        • +3

          @Diji1:

When I bought it, it was just a good desktop mic. I think it has become a podcasting mic because people use it for podcasting a lot.

Whereas 'gaming headsets' are more of a marketing gimmick.

        • @Diji1: news alert: you can podcast things other than gaming

        • @Leon81:

I stand corrected. After reading a couple of reviews, they do seem to be at least half decent. Amazon also has a bundle for the Mo-Fi variant, which has an Fiio amp builtin.

      • I've done a few casts where I've just plonked it in the middle of the room and it's worked pretty well. Picks up everything though so people gotta be careful not to fidget too much.

  • If you get them to call you you can: "Save up to 17% on most brands shipped and sold by Amazon by speaking with an Amazon Harmony associate".

    • assistance required. i can't seem to find the button to request a call

    • You need a US number to do that (they're supposed to call you when you enter your number on the site).
I bought this package a few weeks ago and spent an hour on the phone to Amazon customer service (I had to call them myself) before the guy could figure out what I was on about…. He ended up just giving me free postage, which equated to around 15% off anyway.

      • +1

so did you end up using a US number or just local?

  • +1

Amazing price. Not too much info around on the headphones but they seem somewhat comparable to M50x and DT770 in quality.

  • -3

If only it came with a pair of tits, then I'd make a living off it.

  • +1

I really wanted to like the Yeti but it didn't pick me up very well sitting on my desk.
Also my fans are really loud which really mucks the sound up. Anyone got <$150 mic suggestions that can handle PC fans? I got a cheap meteor on ebay and it's filled the bill but the noise is still really bad.
