    So it's a case for a case?

    • +14

      Just in case :)

      • +5

        Incept-case?

    • +10

That seems to be the case

      • +10

        Case closed!

        • Ah, the little grey cells.

        • I rest my case.

        • Open and shut case so wont be closed for long

Came here to say this just in case it hadn't already been said.

Thanks OP, just what I needed.

    • Didnt need it.. But still got one.

  • Anyone else seeing a makeshift sharps box?

    OzRRP… where's the deal (again)

Current listing on eBay has it at $1, pay only 10c postage

    • Show us a link?

        • +4

But only red colour is $1? The rest is $1.35? No deal.

        • So you linked me something more expensive than the deal? Cheapest price in the eBay link is $1.10.

        • -1

          @Clear: A whopping 10c postage. Such a bargain, eh?

        • @WJD21: Welcome to OzBargain. We're after the cheapest price here you know?

        • -2

@Clear: Considering in the past where seemingly good 'deals' have been blindlessly upvoted despite being cheaper elsewhere, Clearly not all the time.

    • I think you have a point, same price for red but 35 cents more for black/white but you get to choose.

      • +1

10c for shipping too, so 45c difference. A 45% premium to be able to pick the colour is a fair bit so I think this is a good deal.

        • Tbh I think they are both bad deals

    • Downvoted for exposing how much spam this store generates. Never change…

we are burning our natural resources for this?

Too far gone at this point lol. Let go and enjoy materialism (and your sanity)

a $1 case does a better job than the $200 apple earpods case?

    • +8

As you are asking a question, I will answer it: No, a $1 case does not do a better job than the $200 Apple case. Have a good evening.

    • Does this piece of silicone charge AirPods? If not, then no.

    • +1

This goes on top of the regular case.

    • -2

It prevents Apple's intentionally designed planned obsolesce that makes the case susceptible to scratches.

      • +2

Cosmetic scratches don’t make a product obsolete.

        • Correct, but they encourage you to replace it which has a similar effect on the consumer.

        • @RedSky: Maybe for you. Personally I replace them when they stop working and can’t be repaired, not when the case may acquire a few scratches through normal use (like most things in life, they can’t remain spotless forever).

        • It's more applicable to the iPhone than peripherals but I have no doubt part of the design of even the Airpods factored in using a shell material that was not more scratch resistant.

The majority of Apple's net income comes from the iPhone's high margins vs. any of their other revenue lines. They rely on consumers in their ecosystem upgrading to the latest version at regular intervals.

I think you would have to be naive to think that the scratch-prone surface and shatter-prone glass back is not an intentional component of their design or that they don't apply the same principle elsewhere.

Do you doubt that Apple's R&D budget could envision a more durable surface material or design if it served their profit motive? I'm sure you could find several portable electronics you own that have remained scratch proof.

Many other brands and industries employ this (printers, lightbulbs), but Apple with its walled off and heavily controlled ecosystem is probably in the best position to make use of it.

Are there different types of silicone that different sellers use for these? The current one I have fits a little loose on the lid so when I push open the actual AirPods lid, the silicone lid flips back. Wondering whether this would be any better. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +1

I have the same issue with one I got that looks exactly like this one.
Was even thinking of putting a tiny bit of weak sticky tape on the lid to try and hold it there but now I just enjoy using the case bare in all it's glory.

      • Yeah I was thinking of sticky tape too but may just go commando as well and get rid of the silicone!

      • Use an elastic band to keep to lid on.

    • I have the same issue with the one that I bought off AliExpress. It annoys me at times but I enjoy leaving the case in the bag without worrying about getting scratches all over.

    • It's worth a punt, I mean it's only 100 cents
