Pioneer PLX500 Turntable, HDJ700R Headphones, and a Pair of DM-40 Monitor Speakers $369 Free Shipping @ Pioneer

PLX1PLX2

Heavy user, first time poster.
I got the promotional email from Pioneer for the 'Vinyl Revival Pack'. Not needing one myself I did what any true ozbargainer would do and put all the items into the shopping cart and applied the coupon codes. It piqued my interest when the entire package came to $369 instead of the $499 (vinyl & headphones) + $149 (monitors).

https://www.pioneer.com.au/shop/dj/hdj-700-r/

Just add all three items and then apply the PLX1 code, after its applied apply the PLX2 coupon code.

Enjoy!

Thank you. Been waiting for a turntable deal. Was maybe holding out for An Audio-Technica but will look at this.

Just for the record, the word is "piqued". https://www.google.com.au/search?q=piqued

    • How does this compare to audio technica lp120?. I'm waiting for a deal for this one actually.

      • CHOICE has these top 3 of the ones it tested:

        Thorens TD158, 79%
        Audio Technica LP120-USB, 79%
        Pioneer DJ PLX-500, 78%

So pretty much line ball between the LP120 and the Pioneer.

        • Mmmmm, Thorens. Reminds me of a very special Thorens TT I have safely stored away waiting for an easy refurb. Might be a (-nother) Christmas project!

        • +2

@cheapo999: Nope… a close-to-mint 124 MKII with SME 3009 Arm & Shure Cart (can't remember the model) sitting in a custom Malaysian hardwood plinth with matching lid. Cost $50 and a 5 hour round-trip to collect it but worked close to perfectly when I powered up. Not bad for a deck that had been sitting in storage for 25-30 years! Need to go over it properly before using it for real but yeah, quite a work of art :)

        • +1

@SteveAndBelle: worth the drive for sure

        • +2

@pin4e: Yeah :) Long but funny story behind it too… the old lady who I bought it from had no idea what it was and her phone camera was so bad I couldn't figure it out from the terrible pics she took so I offered her $50 because it was a major risk. I could see it was potentially something special but she couldn't tell me the brand or model or anything so it was too risky to offer anything more. Could've been a basket case for all I knew! She said she wanted at least $200 for it as the family member who left it to her in the late 70s always cherished it so she knew it wasn't 'run-of-the-mill'. She'd told me she'd try to get $200 at the local markets and then at a Garage Sale when selling off the rest of her belongings as she was moving to a small aged-care unit in Cairns and needed to offload as much as possible. I thought that was the end of it… but she called back 4 weeks later telling me it was mine for $50 as it didn't sell at the Markets or at the Garage Sale so I jumped in the car to collect it. On arrival I noticed a self adhesive roller cleaner base stuck over the brand and model plate down near the speed selector which is why she (& others) couldn't figure out what it was. I recalled the general look of it after Googling & Googling trying to match something to the dodgy pics she sent and knew then & there it was most probably a Thorens. I had $200+ in my pocket so offered her $200 even though it was still a risk. She declined over & over and it got quite uncomfortable so I gave her the $50 and left with it. Got home, carefully removed the old self adhesive base without causing any damage and bingo, there it was… Thorens 124 MKII. Everything was in 'as-new' condition… even the idler wheel was perfect and not left clamped up against the platter. Chopped the US plug off the end, threw on an AU plug, slowly wound it up with a Variac and boom, absolute audio bliss. Potential current value is at least $5k… maybe more depending on the desirability (or lack of) the custom plinth. Yes, one of my better scores :)

I have a similar story on how I managed to get a Michell Transcriptor for $50 too and it also works but is in need of a BIG restoration before I can be proud to have it on display… but man, it'll be spectacular once I'm done with it :) I also have a B&O BeoLab & Beomaster 5000 Amp & Tuner to sit beside it… just like Alexs bedroom system in Clockwork Orange: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/fb/81/e9/fb81… Don't have the walls of small white speakers to go with it though but I dare say they were just for dramatic design effect, not audio quality.

        • lol choice? wahahaha.. ask a DJ bro! How do all these compare to Technics 1200's? they dont, move along. Nothing to see here..

    • +2

      Corrected and admonished, thanks seb

    • +1

Technics 1200's or GTFO! End of argument..

  • Definately a promo code error. Interesting to see if they honor it

  • Thank you! Just ordered..

  • Awesome deal OP!

I've been looking at getting a vinyl setup for my apartment, just zeppelin, hip hop and stuff. How suitable would this setup be? I'm thinking it would be hard to get alternative quality gear at this price point so seriously tempted to just pull the trigger here!

    • +4

This would be awesome. I have the AT LP120 (very similar to a non-audiophile) and a set of Edifier 1700BT speakers. It works so so well in apartment. Really cool to use and definitely a conversation starter.

Ultimately though, read up about it. You shouldn't listen to one person, this is a hobby and you should do your own research. I found reddit's vinyl sub to have excellent and diverse information but YMMV.

Good luck, its a nice hobby :)

      • +1

Where do you get from your vinyls?
I have the same speakers and planning to get the same turntable.

        • +2

For me, it's eBay or Amazon mostly and sometimes JB.
/r/VinylDeals is a good or bad sub to subscribe to depending on how deep your pockets are.

It's an addictive hobby though, for sure.

          @cittris:

It must be an ongoing hobby that what concerns me as a ozbargainer:)

        • Some from gumtree (tested first of course), some from Amazon or other online retailers and others picked up at the local Vinnies or Antique shops. They are NOT expensive, as long as you don't get ripped off. Make sure you look around first!

Discogs is very popular, but I haven't used it myself.

I keep my eye out, you never know where a bargain or an interesting piece will be found.

There is a company that does $1 Vinyl of the month or something out there too.

Unless you feel strongly about the AT, just get this deal man. You will be miles ahead (unless you can get the AT cheaper? I couldn't!).

        • @cittris: Can't be as bad as photography, surely.

        • @Munki: on par?

      • Ooh sweet, hope the deal comes through then. I have about 10 records and only a crappy crossley briefcase player to play them on, I need this deal to happen!

        • +1

Haha I hope so too mate! I don't mean to get all Vinyl Snob on you, but my understanding is that the Crosley's can damage?

        • +1

@Pharming: Yeah I saw that mentioned by the snobs on the vinyl subreddit haha. Luckily I've used it very rarely as the sound quality was so terrible

        • @Pharming: >very similar to a non-audiophile

Vinyl snobs are beyond clueless :D

In the very best situation vinyl is capable of reproducing 12bit fidelity. This is not to say vinyl is bad or don't buy it but you know … "audiophiles" etc.

  • +1

Ordered but definitely not going to be honored.

    • same here, just ordered in case of a miracle XD

      • Let's meet up and celebrate as soon as we see the 'your order has been shipped' email?

        • why not? we can play some vinyls while we celebrate

    • Ordered, I already have 2 x Technic SL 1200 Mk2 turntables but I have been looking for a new pair of DJ headphones and a pair of small monitor speakers for my PC. If I can sell the turntable for $200-$300 I'll be laughing… well assuming the order gets shipped.

      • You should talk to baldur above ^

  • Doesn't appear to be working for me.
    My total is $648.00

    I applied coupon PLX1 and then PLX2.
    Perhaps it's been fixed?

    • +5

same here, i feel they fixed the loophole that allowed two codes to be applied

  • +1

Only coming to $648 for me - looks like the codes aren't stacking anymore.

  • According to the manual, the supplied cartridge tracks @ 3-4 gms.
    I call that a "Lathe".

    • pretty standard for DJ. Ortofon DJ carts are all 3-4gm. their hifi stuff is <2gm

      • Yep - just pointing out that this is a "DJ" table. The Ortofon I used to use for Philips in 1972 tracked @ 1.5gm, and my Stanton 555 tracks @ 1-1/4 on both my budget Pioneer SPL/110 and the marantz TT 130 deck, performing flawlessly on the Decca SKLM 4861 test record.

For users new to vinyl, if you want to scratch, this may suit you, but if you are wanting to transcribe precious music or are forking out for direct-cut disks, it's not the best option.

If it is choice between this and some ghastly ceramic cartridged horror of a K-Mart or target shelf, then go for it..

  • FML it's already falling apart, OP looks like you should have waited until you received yours before posting + vote for being a team player… (shades of that guy posting the MAC computer deal from Qantas..)

  • Pretty sure I paid just over $200 just for those monitor speakers a few years ago. This looks like a nice package.

  • So got the low down and all order using the Op's deal will not be honored, you will all receive a call back to cancel it.
I'll make a new deal for the bet deal I could get from the rep.

    • +1

Best deal will probably be 5% off inflated RRP =)

      • +1

should be live now, best I could do considering.
I should note that the original deal is still valid, in that the $499 plus $149 was the intended deal
so if you want the deck and headphones then $99 and if you want speakers then add $149.
or if like me you just want deck and speakers then $599 is your cost after discount

        • +1

Thanks for getting the low down and re-posting ozy!

        • @drycleanonly: thanks for the heads up mate

  • 648.00 still showing after using both codes includes free shipping

  • Just got a call from Pioneer saying there is no way they can honor this, so they offered me a refund. They said they can only provide the turntable at $369 which is not really a deal. Oh wells!

    • same here, just told them to cancel the order

      • same here, also cancelled

    • Don’t they have to honour it under Australian consumer law?

      • +1

afaik they would have to honour if it was advertised at his price, but not for a pricing error.

        • I thought they have to get in before accepting your money?

        • @Jake Elwood: nope.

  • technics 1200 ftw
