Great price for a great camera! I got mine last month, got HN to price match Digidirect Black Friday Deal $2165-$150 cashback -$200(2 Amex cards)= $1815

Good deal, but be sure to check their negative feedback to make an informed buying decision - quite a few of them indicate they have received used cameras which were advertised as "new".

    • +1

I bought my 6D ii from Teds last month on the eBay 20% off sale, and I got a new camera, although I did have to return it to my local Teds for exchange due to a defective sensor. They were very good with the exchange - no hassle at all.
Last year we bought 2x Canon M3 kits and both of those were new as well. So, my experience has been good but YMMV.

  • What would be a good lense to get with this?

    • Depends greatly on your budget.

      • +1

Let's say it's unlimited. What would be the best value for money?

        • +2

A good all round lens would be the 24-70 F2.8L mk I if budget is not a concern. 85 F1.2 L for portraits & 16-35 mk iii for landscapes (again with budget being no issues)

        • +2

          @crazyleo:

24-70mm is excellent, however i'd argue the 24-105mm is probably better bang for buck depending on what they shoot and how much of a beginner/amateur they are.

There are also a lot of cheaper off-brand alternatives that are pretty decent if you're only looking to spend around $750.

        • @crazyleo: I would choose 85 1.8 over 1.2. 1.2 is heavy, huge, slow. yes 1.2, but hell it's hard to handle

        • +1

24-70 f2.8 is an all rounder but I love 70-200 f2.8. 8 with my 6D for outdoor and portraits!

        • Invest in a decent prime lens, 24 or 50mm and a flexible zoom lens like a 24-105mm usm.

The sigma art lens are good bang for buck compared to the canon lens for a prime.

Avoid the plastic mount prime lens as they don't feel solid.

Don't forget this is a full frame lens so look for EF lens not EF-S

        • @kasaresj: The 85 1.4L IS has just been released too. I would gladly give up a 1/3 stop of light for IS and newer engineering.

    • +1

      35Liii and a 135L.

      • ^^^^ This.. I have a sigma 35 1.4 and the canon 135 and it's an awesome combo. quite versatile.

        • I have the Canon 35mm f/1.4L II and Sigma 135mm f/1.8A and it's an even awesomer combo! Expensive, though.

  • +8

    50mm f/1.8
    24-105 f/4 L IS

    • Another vote for the nifty fifty

    • That's what I use ;)

there's possibility to get this camera for less than 1700 at Digidirect but it requires 7 amex cards.

  • +4

Most disappointing camera of 2017. This is a short review opinion said by many famous YouTubers.

    • I thought you were the jv for a second. Didn’t realise her daughter was on here as well.

      • Welcome to Ozbargain, newbie.

    • Yeah, it's not great compared to other recently released cameras.

  • It’s ok for what it is. The 6d is a cracker and hard to improve without getting into 5d territory. I sold my 6d for a 5div and bought another 6d.

    • So you now have both a 5D IV and 6D? Is the 6D your second body?

  • Uncompetitive camera not worth the money. Better to save for the 5Div or move to Sony

    • 4K video capability of 5Div is old and obsolete, heavy cropping in frame close to micro four thirds cameras, and the 4K video format makes the video file size gigantic and useless.

There are plenty of great full frame cameras out there at this price point of this 6Dii if only shooting still images. 6Dii has worse dynamic range than the original 6d (worse image quality when shooting in low light) , no 4K video option.

Canon just cannot give up producing new products with their old technology, and people just keep spending buying Canon “new” gears.

      • Agreed about 5Div crappiness, Hence the move to Sony comment if you can afford the A7riii or A9. But if you want to stay in Canon world the 5Div>>6dii

    • For this money it's definitely a bargain! Have you tried this camera or you are just judging by the online reviews? What do you consider "competitive" around the $1800 mark?

      • +1

This is barely an improvement over the 6d so if you want to save money it would be better to get the original 6d for even less or the 5dIII for better AF coverage. Personally though, I would never buy another DSLR anyway and have to put up with the stupid inaccurate lens calibration and pointless optical viewfinder which does not preview exposure - it is essentially obsolete technology given the development of mirrorless cameras. At the moment mirrorless still has some improvement to go in the lower cost models but something like the Sony a9 or a7riii are essentially better than the DSLR competitors in almost all ways (except things such as robust build and niche lens selection). The cheaper mirrorless cameras like the A7 or A7ii leave more to be desired though and in that price range a DSLR has some more advantages

and yes i have tried many canon cameras like the 7dii,5diii/iv, 6d

        • AF coverage is not an issue for me! It has never been….
Also I don’t need 4K video, I don’t want to spend more for a 5D and I just like the features 6D mkii has compared to the original 6D.
          …You haven’t tried the 6D mkii but!

        • @GregFiona:

Well if you like it then go for it, it will be a generally decent and reliable stills camera and produce nice photos. Personally i would get mirrorless instead but it would cost you more for a good one

and with regards to AF coverage, you think you don't need it until you try Sony Eye AF..

        • @qvinto: LOL, I already own this camera and I’m talking based on my hands on experience :)
It’s amazing how many review-like opinions are out there from people who have not even touched this camera :)

        • @GregFiona:

If you like it that’s fine. But do you also own a mirrorless camera like the A7rii/A7riii? If not then you may not know what else is on offer

        • @qvinto: You are aware of the cost of the α7R III right??? Also, another factor I have preferred to stay with Canon is my existing lens collection ;)

        • @GregFiona:

Yes that’s why I mentioned the higher costs in my earlier comments. However the A7rii is below $2500 now so getting closer to the 6Dii price. However the 6Dii has a more durable and ergonomic body than the A7rii which does not feel as robust. The A7riii is better though but double the price. Anyway I think in 1 or 2 more generations even the low cost FF mirrorless cameras will be superior to the DSLR equivalents in all ways

Canon should really make a Full frame mirrorless camera before it’s too late and Sony steals their market

        • +1

@qvinto: and Sony should start making smaller lanses for their mirrorless cameras ;)

  • Even some micro four thirds cameras with a quarter of the sensor real estate have significantly more dynamic range than the 6DII (a full stop), which is the single most important element in image quality.

If you don't know much about photography please take the time to educate yourself about the other options out there. Pretty much any current gen APSC crop sensor camera will walk all over this full frame dinosaur. Canon have just wheeled out the same old tech from the start of the century and glued a new badge on the front.

It doesn't mean the 6DII can't take decent photos! However significant advancements in sensor tech in recent years means that manufacturers have all but eliminated back-end (downstream) read noise from their sensors. I don't think a single manufacturer uses these old antiquated sensors anymore.

Except of course for Canon with the 6DII. Avoid!

    • What's your recommendation for around the same price point or cheaper ?

      • +4

        Nikon D750

    • +3

If you think dynamic range is the most important element in image quality then it's you who needs to seek out some educatin', soothslayer.

      • +1

/s Check out my 14 stop dynamic range on my low light photo taken with a plastic kit lens on a D850. /s :-P

      • As a pro, I think Dynamic Range is one of the most important things for full frame cameras for paying this price.

        • And as I pro, I know it isn't.

        • @dm01: You would be probably a day-time pro only.

        • +1

@JFSYD: After checking your website, I still have to question your "pro" judgement.

Might also pay to get a native English speaker to proofread the text on your site.

  • Was looking at this earlier in the year but even though it's hit that sub $2k mark as expected for end of the year I've switched off buying it somewhat because of its age; including the fact some parts were already behind; that and some personal circumstances too but in general if you don't have any investment on lenses then I'd also consider other brands.

Photography purists on various forums mention how it takes a good photo or how a good photo is hardly about the latest sensor tech … true, except this is OzBargain where bang for buck I hope is on peoples' mind. If I could stack on an extra discount such as TRS (uhh, ignoring the other side of that for a sec lol) then I'd prob get it. Another way to look at it is the price difference between the otherwise similar 80D and 6Dmk2.

FWIW still shooting Canon 70D and not going to do that brand changing thing. Just no longer seems to have that "forking out for a shiny new body" feeling if it's not even their own latest generation of technology (not to be confused with "best"; look at the 80D and so on)

  • Any good deal for 5D mark IV?

  • I think punch is done?

    • Yep, the code has expired.
