  • Is this Viofo Brand? Can't see the Brand Info anywhere on the webpage.

    • +6

It's not Viofo, just a replica. Still one of the better bang-for-buck devices around though.

It has similar performance to a G1W-C but its a more discreet form factor.

      • +2

        Replica or counterfeit?

        • +3

          homage :P

    • Video on the site claims it's a viofo. Not sure if it actually is or not.

    • Lol.
Cant believe, companies have started making fakes for even Chinese brand items.

  • Edit: Can't justify spending $85 on a A119 so this works for me!

want another one for the back window

So you're just going to leave your side windows uncammed? Don't even try telling me you're driving without a sunroof cam as well.

    • +2

I chuckled. Reminds me of a conversation I had with my boss where he was making a point about dash cams being relatively ineffective against people parking next to you and opening their doors onto your car.

Ordered this exact unit Sep 2017 and after very little 'plugged in time', the power supply has failed.. just heads up on quality…

    • +1

Did you check the cable? This is sometimes the culprit.

      • The power supply has a blue light built into it, this light does not light, hence the power supply has failed, yes have inspected… GB don't sell a replacement power supply that I could find…which means gotta figure out another solution, pain in the ass really..

        • Shame that Dashcams require long leads or you would have many few dollar options on Ebay for a Mini USB car charger.

On the A119s you do get a lead with USB on the car charger end and a separate dual USB car charger adapter that is good if it does fail, a very simple replacement.

Did you try turning it off and on again?

  • Just bought one, cheers OP.

Having never owned a dash-cam it has a battery as the capacitor, how long roughly does it last without needing to be plugged in?

    • +1

A capacitor will need constant power to function. When the car is turned off it will have enough power for a second while it saves the file and then turns off.

      • Ok thanks

    • +8

If the capacitor fails, you will need about 50 meters of electrical cable, a clock tower and a puffer vest. Oh and a storm.

        Great Scott!!!!!!!

  • Expired but AUEC01023 still works from previous deal.

    • That’s expired too unfortunately

  • Going to buy 2, anyone have an idea on how to easily install front and rear?

  • always manage to miss these :(

    • just "ask the rep for a code" like everyone else seems to

    • +1

If you know what you want you can subscribe to emails when new deals are posted. For example, search OzBargain for "A118C", then at the top of the search results is a link to Create Alert. That will send you an email whenever new deals are listed that match your search terms.

  • bought this exact one a month ago, not impressed with video quality, my G1W-C is better, particularly at night. It also has randomly turned off a few times which is irritating. Would probably be better to buy a genuine one or an A119

    • I have the Geniune Viofo A118C and video quality at night is also pretty bad. You will need to step up to the A119 for better nightime video.

      • If you want good nighttime qualify, highly recommend A119s, I have one and noght vision great. Wait for a deal and similar price to A119 deal.

My one of these died in the heat over the last few weeks :(

    • Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

  • Mine still going okay, although went a little out of focus not long after I installed it. Still enough detail for insurance purposes although maybe not Youtube quality.

    • Have you checked your lens/window for dust?
Still recall fixing a friend’s iPhone’s flash photos that we’re all misty - by taking the protective film off the back of the phone 😂

      • Yes I have. The dashboard of my car is perfectly in focus, the rest a little out.

        • Can you pan it up so it records the view without your dashboard? Sounds like it’s decided to set the focal length to your dashboard, much like when you’re trying to take a photo of the Disneyland castle and old mate muncan stands in front and you get a blurry castle, but a sharp muncan.

        • @muncan: I'm certain it's a fixed-focus device (and these going out of focus due to heat is a well documented phenomenon, I didn't actually realise that was why the resolution partially dropped until I saw a discussion thread, the more expensive versions of the 118C fare better) but given that I can just push the camera up slightly, it'd take less effort then it did to type this message to give it a try :).

  • Both my one nearly 1.5 years ago and still going strong. I think I spent $60 at that time.
