Melbourne - Berlin (Germany) Return $798 (Scoot Airlines) July 2018 @ IWTF

190

Hi all,

Found this bargain airfare to Berlin (Germany) with a stopover in Singapore; flying Scoot Airlines. They were ranked 60th in Skytrax' rankings 2017

Yes, Scoot is not a full service airline but allow 10kg carry on, and for about AUD$65 you can purchase an extra 7kg, so might be an option for those who pack light.

20hr Stopover in Singapore on way up with THIS FLIGHT FROM MELBOURNE which is great to explore the city and get a sleep before flying Singapore to Berlin. Weather in Germany at this time of year is great and is at it's highest point of the year for that part of Europe. Check for other shouldering dates for the $798 deal.

$248 for 20kg of luggage if anyone is wondering.

$18 for a hot meal and drink .

But for these dates it's still about $700 cheaper than the next cheapest .

Not in July you can't. Go check and get back to us.

    • Think the Goberlin promo code will give a discount on baggage

  • For anyone who is interested they are also doing Business Class for roughly $2500. Sounds a lot like a more Premium economy and you need to buy food even in business class.

  • 345 if you want luggage and be fed as well.

Which is still a good price for high season, if you don’t mind the long layover

I booked one of these return flights on the 10th of Jan to fly out in August. On 26th they informed me that the confirmed flights were re-scheduled. These rescheduled flights, however, showed an arrival in Singapore 3 h before the departure to Berlin, making it impossible to catch the connecting flight. So I had to re-book the flights, which is only possible by calling Scoot.
    Now starts the fun bit.
On the 26th I gave up calling after 3 hours of being in the call-loop (is this a record?). On the 27th, Scoot staff hang up on me twice. After I got finally trough, the Scoot staff told me that when I arrive in Singapore, the ground staff will book me onto the next available plane to Berlin. Took me quite some diplomatic techniques to convince Scoot that this isn't "convenient" for a family travelling with kids. Finding a suitable replacement flight is another, even longer story….

    • I don't understand. How is it impossible to catch a connecting flight 3h later?

      • Well its impossible. So Scoot did a mistake with their flight rescheduling. After many hours wasted on the phone arguing and waiting, we are now stuck in Singapore for 20 hours. The problem here is that you land at 04:00 am and fly out at 00:22 the next day, so if you want to stay in a hotel during the stopover, you have to book and pay for 2 hotel nights.
The initial flight price sounds nice, but you have to add all the hustle, headache with the booking, time on the phone, money we have to spend on the stopover, booking fees ($30 pp) etc, luggage surcharge, meal and entertainment costs etc. etc.. After all of those on-costs you only save $100-$300. I will never book Scoot again!

        • A bit too late now but this is the reason why never book budget airlines unless it is a point to point flight. Sorry for being blunt but being 60th in Skytrax is close to being rock bottom. This is not a good evaluation of the airline by any means.

        • You should be able to get away with a 1-night hotel reservation. By the time you land, get through immigration and customs it'll probably be after 6am and you'll want some breakfast. Take the opportunity to see a bit of Singapore, e.g. Gardens by the Bay, then hopefully you can get an early check-in at your hotel (tell them you'll be checking out early).

Sydney to Berlin is also $798 and Gold Coast to Berlin is $778 on Scoot.

Hi Store Rep, can you list all the extras that come on top, i. e. booking fee, creditcard fee, seat fee, in-flight entertainment fee etc.?

      • Hi - they change a lot depending on the company that you purchase with. If you purchase directly with Scoot then there is no booking fee for payments with POLi.

        • +1

          Only few banks accept POLi.
What do you mean by "they change a lot depending on the company that you purchase with"?. What about booking via the Scoot homepage, is this not the cheapest option? Do you sell flights cheaper via other retailers? Where should OZbargainers go to get the cheapest prices?

I know this is a different period but compare this price to qatar air for 1.2k all inclusive in april during their europe sale last month. Short connections, less risk of cancellations or delays and infinitely better service. By the time you add basic luggage and food to scoot it will come up to 1k at least already.

Having been to europe multiple times in the past 2 years believe me a 23 hour round trip is no joke and you need all the comfort you can get.

Agree, might be the cheapest this time of year and I’m all for Scoot to Singapore but all the way through to Europe is a different story. So many premium airlines doing decent deals all year round, this deal only makes sense it you happen to have to go to Berlin in July (great time of year to go by the way) and want to save every dollar possible.

      • Because its all the way to Europe the risks of something going wrong ie cancellations or delays and the costs of recovering are far higher than a point to point flight.

Imagine a 25 hour trip, and because of a delay you miss the next leg, and end up spending 1 extra day. As of today, Scoot has still not convinced me they are liable for hotel stays when a delay strands you overnight (especially in Asia, where consumer law is weaker).

a 23 hour round trip is no joke

Imagine a month on a boat head to head with thousands of other cattle, or a lifetime in a 2ft cube wire cage with 7 other laying hens, or most of your life in a stall so small you can never turn around.

  • Somewhat sad to see the name of the country correlating to the city.
