No thanks, I'd rather pay a bit more and get an unlocked Garmin A50 for $199.

    CNET review:

LG has cut corners in the wrong places to deliver the Optimus at the right price. Poor performance and frustrating input are always deal-breakers, regardless of price.

Yeah only heard bad things about this phone

    • yeah upgrade it to 2.1 and you are quite good for a cheap android phone.

  • scrimshaw: How much does it cost to unlock it ?

      The Garmin comes unlocked!

I agree with scrimshaw, the Garmin ($199) or the Huawei ($159) are better handsets at their respective prices.

      • But this one is so pretty!

        • Lol, while the Garmin looks like a pretty bland phone I'd have to say it's a lot nicer to use.

Resistive touchscreen on LG = little harder to type and no pinch to zoom (lack of multi touch) = not so good for web browsing.

  • I own one of these. They keyboard becomes a lot easier to use once you remove the factory fitted screen protector. I suspect this screen protector (which was simply part of the plastic wrapping covering the whole phone) was not meant to stay on. After removing it the touch screen becomes a lot easier to use. As for scratches: no scratches yet after 6 weeks.
BTW, an upgrade to Android 2.1 has just been released for this phone.

      LOL
That is not a screen protector, that is just a plastic cover to protect the screen till it is unwrapped.
So maybe not that bad phone after all.

        Lol.

A plasic cover to protect the screen untill it is unwrapped = screen protector.

        • One of the reviews suggested it came with a pre-fitted screen protector. Funnily enough the manual says nothing (like "remove" or "don't remove"). I strongly suspect the bad reviews on the insensitive touch screens are to blame on the packaging not quite being removed :)

  • I have this and the Garmin, the Garmin has a good sat nav but as a phone feels very cheap, you quickly get used to the Optimus screen and now i prefer it, it also has a surprisingly good camera and battery.

  • yep, i have the optimus, good phone for the money, made in korea with decent build, battery is 1500mah good for about ~3 days constant usage, and the phone is even better now it has android 2.1 and can be rooted…

    • lol, that needs to be on a t-shirt "I rooted Optimus…"
