    It's all about the eneloop's

    • that's why I'm here.

Surely this thing would run like a bit of a dog with only 1gb of ram?

  • Anyone know if this thing would run the Foxtel Go app?

  • Forgive my ignorance, what is this device used for?
Can it be used to show rmvb videos on TV screen?
    Thanks!

      People still use RMVB?

    • -1

It basically turns your regular TV into a smart TV by adding a version of android made for TVs.
From that you can install apps that will play your saved videos, or stream videos from the internet.
I mainly use it for netflix and kodi (which lets you stream movies from the internet for free).

Can do you much with only 1GB of RAM on Android 7.1. Wouldn't it be slow as?. Wouldn't the 2GB RAM model be much better?. That 1GB model would basically be crippled compared to it.

    • Yes :) pay more get more.

      • +2

Yes especially when outputting 4K video. With only 1GB of RAM i thought it would stutter a bit. I mean you try running 4K video on a 1GB RAM tablet and see how crap it runs. 2GB of RAM would be the minimum. 2GB model is only $10 USD more (before coupon code is applied) and would be well worth it. It's only US $36.65 or AUD $46.20 with that coupon code so it doesn't cost much more.

I have a 1GB tv box with the same chip and it runs fine for me, although my TV is max 1080p.

        • Well then it's outputting 1080p video. A lot less demanding than 4K video.

        • @hollykryten: it decodes 4k and downscales to 1080. If anything , would be more demanding.

  • Any codes for the 2gb version?

    • +2

Yes it's coupon AUZ69 which brings it to US $36.65 (AUD $46.20) shipped. Good choice. The 2GB RAM model would be much better especially dealing with 4K videos.

  • The name alone makes this purchase worth it

    • Make sure you purchase the 2GB RAM model if you want to actually deal with 4K videos on it without it stuttering.

      • Run LibreELEC and it’ll run 4K video without an issue. It’s very lean on RAM.

        • Or you could just buy the 2GB model for not much more and have it some what future proof.

        • +4

@hollykryten: By the time you need that ‘future proofing’ something else will be out that's 10x as fast for the same price. For purely media playback the 2GB isn’t needed for LibreELEC.

        • @Porthos: the original s905 is like 3 years old now? Something new must be around the corner…

        • @jonathonsunshine: Yeah second half of 2015 I think, the S905X was released a year later. They still both work really well for what they do though, but the S912 is another level above.

        • @Porthos: i ubderstand amlogic havent released blobs or drivers for the 912, at the libreelec forums they literally tell you to get 905 instead.

probs better for Android generally though.

tested a 50Mbit 4k hdr with s905 last night played fine except that colors were out cause i dont have 4k tv. i guess they would be out even if i did though because s905 doesnt do hdr either.

S912's virtually all fixed with @kszaq's LE 8.1.8 release onwards. Impressive GPU optimisations by kszaq for S912's lately !

S912 works without issue, has for the last couple of months.

Yeah the S905/X can play most files without an issue, it's more just in the GUI of Kodi where it can get a little sluggish. Transferring the data files for LibreELEC from the SD card to internal memory makes a huge difference in GUI speeds though.

        • @Porthos: sweet, what's the like for Android ? My s905 sucked, it only has 1gb ram but chrome was painfully slow. Like, massive keyboard lag etc, it was borderline unusable.

        • @jonathonsunshine: No idea sorry mate. Only run my S905X with Libreelec as the default Android version of Kodi has a number of shortfalls, but mine is the 2GB version.

    • 2GB version is cheaper through the link in the deal.

    • You're right. Updated link.

  • Does this have Play Store? The description "The latest Android 7.1 system, with open-source application store" concerns me.

    • I was also wondering the same thing..
