Accidental/Hidden flight bargain

Recently just bought a ticket from Perth to Sydney on virgin. I booked the cheapest flight without hesitation (as a true ozbargainer would).

On receiving my flight confirmation I was initially dismayed as it seems I had bought a flight that included a stopover in Melbourne, all this time to save $10.

However on further inspection I realise, not only did I save $10, but I am also going to get two meals!

GG virgin.

Virgin meals are pathetic.. especially on short segment. On SYD-MEL you'd likely get a small pack of cheese and crackers

    • Oh you get the fancy snacks. I normally get a muesli bar, that is bite size.

    • It wouldn't be a Virgin meal if it weren't served from a large clear Tupperware container either!

  • yeah…plastic sangers :/

What about the extra cosmic radiation that you are exposed to for saving that $10.

Sure the gov can say whatever they like, i.e. no increase in health risk, but your body is getting that mSv increase when you are closer to the sun and outer space.
They could be lying to save the $ making industry as there is currently no alternative to a quick long distance transportation other than flying…

it's more of an issue for pilots, not those who do the occasional flight.

If you were that worried you'd buy a TLD badge and send it back for frequent testing.

      • Or wear a metal suit.. Tinfoil or armour.

Pls stick with your horse/donkey. Thx.

    • If our government was lying China or Russia would have called us out by now!

    Yeah so?
You just suck at booking flights

If you don't value your time and comfort, then yea sure, you scored a "bargain".

  • Oh yum, more unappetising plane food.
Even if it's just cheese and crackers, the cheese will probably taste awful.

So what you actually have done is a stopover in Melbourne, extended time and delay in getting home and have to sit through yet another terrible meal and get on another terrible plane.
    Worth $10!

Just FYI this was clearly a joke. No need to take it super seriously!

  • Lol my flight from east coast city to bris had better food then the bris to Melbourne flight…

You really need to watch some of those flights. I've looked at a couple of overseas ones and you think they are OK until you realise there is a 40 hours elapsed time because there is some ludicrous amount of time you need to spend in a backwater somewhere before the next leg.

Yeah nah…. You'll get a 'meal' PER -> MEL, but you'll get a snack MEL -> SYD and by a snack I mean just that. Something that is one bite.

    • I hate to ask, but what is the 'meal'? Flying East coast to Perth next month.

      • Its never anything exciting.

        • They ran out of meals on my last Perth flight with Virgin. I got instant noodles!

        • @Sweet3st: oh that's bad!!! But noodles at least would be better than some of the meals I've had. My last trip with virgin the food was bad, maybe back to Qantas for me?

  • Not to mention what happens if there is a delay and you end up missing the connecting leg…

As its booked under one trip, thats an issue for virgin. Mel -> syd has a plane every hour, so not a big deal.

  • I had bought a flight that included a stopover in Melbourne, all this time to save $10.

That saving isn't even worth your time if you calculated your hourly rate based on Centrelink payments! haha

    Double velocity points too.

I just flew 4 flights in a day to Adelaide and back, I'd rather stab myself with pins than do that again.
