    ask the good guys

  • Why do you ask??

Most shops of any sort really will normally give you a discount of some sort for floor/display/damaged stock.

My experience has usually been (not with TGG) in general with floor stock that the discount is not enticing enough for me to take the chance.

That being said I got a Makita 165mm circular saw from Bunnings that was display and she’s been absolutely bulletproof for near on around prob 8-9 years now. I’ve dropped her, kicked her, left her in the sun for ages, neglected blade changes, pushed her too hard on long rip cuts. Come to think of it I really should take better care of my tools.

  • I've asked many times, always met with a no! Unless it's the last one, as in, clearance, none out the back, no more coming in, plus struggling to get rid of it.

  • Depends on the store, the person, the stock, the time, the date etc including whether the employee is nice or not.

Ask and the worst you get is no.

I don't get why you would expect to get a discount of floor stock. If TGG sells it to you for a discount, then they just need to get another new one from out the back to replace it. Then another person comes along and asks for a discount on floor stock which results in TGG going out the back again to replace it. See where I'm going?

The only time that a retailer would want to give you a discount on floor stock is if there's no more stock out the back to replace it with.

  • I bought a Tefal pit and pan set the TGG this weekend actually. I was tossing up between two sets that were both $329ea. I noticed there were no boxes left for one of them. I asked the salesperson is they had any more or if that was it. He went and checked and said the display stock was the only stock they had left. I asked for a discount and he gave it to me for $260. No brainer.

I guess this was an easy decision as its not a electronic item which has now had wear and tear.

    • Definitely depends on the item. Tefal have an insane markup, so the salesperson can discount it and still make huge GP on the item (which is what normally a salesperson works for).

Everything in store is free if you know how to work the five-finger discount.
