Panasonic Lumix TZ 10 - $303 via Officeworks price match

133

Edit: The URL gets shortened when I click submit, so here is the link to the online store:
http://www.techrific.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmctz10-dmczs7-d…

As discussed in the Sony Cybershot deal, I picked up a Panasonic Lumix TZ 10 from Officeworks for $303 (via price match).

Officeworks currently have it for $497. JB currently has it for a "Hot Price!" of $544
I printed the page from the above link, highlighted "TZ10", "$319", "Free Delivery" and "In Stock" to make it easy for the rep in store.

PLEASE BE AWARE the page clearly says international stock so I guess that means it's not "identical" but the rep that served me either didn't notice or didn't care.

Here's my receipt:

Hopefully a few of you can snap some up.

P.S. I took this camera to the Bon Jovi concert at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday night, and it took some nice pictures with that 12x optical zoom =P

This is grey market stock, just because one store happened to 'miss' that when checking does not mean that all the other stores will honor it…

    eg…

What items are excluded from the 5% discount?

    • Non identical products and services (inclusive of non identical warranties)
    • +1

I'm aware of the Ts and Cs, that's why I pointed it out. I'm not telling you to buy from Techrific.
If I was 'lucky' I'm sure a lot of other people will be too, so if they can get a bargain, I'm happy.

  • i thought officeworks only pricematch to shop with a shopfront. Not really sure that website does, but thats a huge bargain. Would have definitely gotten if i wasnt going overseas tomorrow where it is only $222 AUD equivalent.

    • Where can they be had for $222? (HK, Singa, etc.)

    • Officeworks pricematch online as well. Not only for store with physical shopfront.

  • But it also doesn't mean that the other stores won't 'miss' that when checking the receipt as well.

Barbo has done the leg work in getting us another Officeworks receipt to price match against, one would hope that this is the deal that is price matched against instead of the techrific offer.

No harm in trying, and if successful, an absolute bargain!

Tried this before. Officeworks in Parramatta picked up on the Grey market difference.

    • did you use the receipt?

      or the website?

      • -1

It was a few months ago. I used the website.
I also tried at Officeworks wentworthville, also denied. I then gave up!

  • This site may be better to use for a price match (same price but no free shipping) as the international stock on the page is harder to see ;)
    http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2…

  • mate, should have got a price match on the belkin case too: http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-12030153-Belkin_Small_Camera_Case_(F8K000_SML)

haha jokes aside, I did this last month AND was successful - took the camera with me on safari in south africa so got 10% back on GST too so was around 270ish in the end. Obviously this relies on you finding a very gullible (or kind) member of staff who will overlook the fact that it is overseas stock. The reasons why I didn't post it was:

    • it will not work for everyone or even a majority of people. only very few people will be successful - I had to try at nearly 10 Officeworks stores around sydney over a week before I had success (and that too only by the skin of my teeth as the manager had gone for lunch or something and I managed to pressure the rep into letting me have it saying I had to get back to work).
    • I had copies of 2 receipts from different OW that had price matched imported stock sites. each store I showed it to said "just because store x did it doesnt mean we will - they stuffed it up, we cant replicate the stuff up sorry"

so yeah go hard but be prepared for dissappointment in case you cant pull it off - either way good luck!

as for the camera - well it takes awesome photos. Love the zoom, HD vids and geotagging - we could see exactly where we spotted different animals on google maps. just love it!

    • Yeah the case was spur of the moment haha.
Only reason I posted this is ecause it came up in the Cybershot deal so thought this could be a good alternative.

    • Agreed. This "bargain" was due to a price match error by a staff member and requires another staff member not to pick up on the initial error. Good for the OP but not the stuff that legitimate bargains are made of or wider publicity as they will likely make tougher checks in the future as a result.

I think this is the same camera for $269
    http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-TZ10-…
Do you think they would match the price on this one?

ETA: the price went up literally 2 mins ago to $282….

    • Its $45 for delivery.

      • yeah that kinda sours the deal for me

      1. when they price match they add shipping so better add $45 to that.
      2. fat chance on price match when it says USA pack in BIG capital letters as part of the title! at least go for one that isnt so clearly obvious. I myself had used topbuy, but their other model : http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Panasonic-LUMIX-DMC-TZ10-… which was cheaper at the time.
      • Yeah it was $269 the first time I checked then went up about 15 mins later. Like the OP said, sometimes the sales staff don't look if it's international stock. Im also pretty sure that when I checked earlier today it said free shipping, but I did notice the $45 shipping when the price went up a little. I guess I will just keep an eye on their pricing.

    • Yep this one worked out more expense with delivery.

    • Just changed again, now $277.07 and $55 shipping!

  • +2

Office works normally do price match online web sites if its Australian stock. They usually give 5% off the price then add on whatever shipping the web site charges.

    • Spot on.

  • +1

I believe We @ozbargain community should use these information on Fair playing field. Buy using such practises will kill pricematch offers. No one will be happy if a customer comes to your worplace and does some thing similar and your standing in the organisation looks shakey. In between any one buying this camera from online stores should check whether it is PAL or NTSC version. You may not be able connect to a TV( May be I am wrong)

  • Sweet deal. I ended up getting the s95 for $400 which was probably more suited to what I was shooting

  • +2

I phoned my local Officeworks and spoke to the guy in tech and explained I wanted to do a price match, he asked for the website, which I supplied (techrific), I brought along a printout of both the website and the receipt but I didn't need it he had already checked out the website. Done deal. PS I also bought the Belkin case for $10, not a bad little case and I felt I needed to give them something…

  • This will be sweet if I can get the pricematch. I will then get the TRS (Tourist Refund Scheme) when I leave to go overseas which will make this camera a bargain of $272.20!

    • For the TRS, do you need to have all the packaging with you or just the camera will do?

      • you don't need the packaging. All you need is the camera.

        • +1

          And the receipt :)

        • only camera and receipt, and if the total on the receipt is more than $1,000 (in case you buy multiple electronics) then the receipt should have your name on it.

also, have your bank account/bsb number handy as the fastest and easiest option is for them to deposit it into your account (they dont give you a cashback on the spot).

  • I saw this on special for about $300 or so a few months back at the Chadstone Officeworks. It went back up to ~$500 a few weeks later. I guess they eventually realised it was pricematched to grey imports.

BTW I have this camera (bought legit stock back in April, was like $600 at the time). Pretty good camera I must say. But despite setting it at 11.2MP the picture sizes are only slightly larger than my 5 year old Samsung camera, and that's only 5MP. Doesn't seem to have quality settings either (none that I can find anyway).

  • You just don't post these sorts of things here as all it does is bring it to the retailers attention and then you end up spoiling future 'catches' for yourself and everyone else!! I have done similar things in the past but would never, ever post!! Not to be selfish, but to keep it quiet and not spoil it for other people (as well as myself), to continue to use.

I understand you're excited and want to share Barbo, but in my opinion it is not a good move!! Agree with Sachy, it will end up killing price match policy at Officeworks when people abuse it in this manner. Anyone else thinking of posting future deals like this, please refrain!!!

    • Yeah, I could barely contain my excitement.
That's why I waited four days… and as I said earlier, I only posted because I was encouraged to do so in the Cybershot thread.

I didn't rush home and post it straight away for the same reasons that you pointed out. But then I thought, hey, if someone can pick one up and SAVE some money, great!

It's no wonder some people hold off on posting deals when you get others saying "not a real bargain" or "not enough of a bargain" (I'm speaking in general about OZB not about this post).

If we keep discouraging people from posting and call for mods to delete posts, people will miss out on saving money.

At least one person above picked up this camera and saved some money from this post, so, job done!

      • Might be a case of short term gain for relatively few (who need to be lucky to have a policy breached) vs long term loss for all if they toughen the checks/requirements. Every price match is recorded in their system to allow H/O staff to monitor/adjust their prices so if lots turn up… Don't take it personally though we know your intentions are good, just that widely publicised bargains shouldn't depend on staff not doing proper checks.

        • Here, here… I worked in a major retail head office and yes, they do check then kick some butt and send out emails to managers, have meetings and post memos in tea rooms, etc about this sort of thing.

I noticed Bunnings a few weeks ago had memos on their registers about price matching a particular deal with one of their competitors. Trust me, they will toughin right up on this.

Please don't take this personal :-)

Moderators, please remove this post based on my previous argument!!

  • That sales person shouldn't have sold it at that price.
That's nearly $200 below Australian cost price. This basically means Officeworks went halvies in the price with you.
You really did a job on that salesperson! I wonder if they're still employed…

The ones which are available online are imported directly from Hong Kong.
There are 2 versions, the slightly cheaper is the US one. Aus/Asia/Europe costs about $20 more.

Buying these is fine (I have) but you do not get a normal Australian manufacturers warranty. If it doesn't work you can't just call Panasonic Australia!

    • "That’s nearly $200 below Australian cost price."
Don't you mean retail price? Who pays retail!

I tried this deal today and failed. They said any online store with model DMC-ZS7 in the title/description will be an import.
      https://www.electronicbazaar.com.au/add-to-cart.php?category…
That link has it for $337 and hasn't got any reference to the imported DMC-ZS7 model. I'll give it a go tommorow.

      • No I meant cost price.
        It's $300 below retail price.

    • You are right. For our benefit why should we put a fellow human bieng in tight spot.Yes, retailers rip us off . But again they contribute to local economy, provide jobs, pays GST and income tax. They also have limited buying power (20 million cut0mers Vs billions of customers).Ozbargain shouldn't be Ozcheats( nothing personal)It is upto individuals to do as they wish but better not to post it.

    • +1

Hey Pal, I didn't "do a job" on anyone.
I static-iced the camera, printed put the web page, handed it to the sales person who was too happy to put it through! There was no coercion involved, do you think I stood there going "please please do this sir!"
Not that you'd believe me but I didn't even notice it wasn't Aus stock until the time I posted.

And I do believe cost price is differs from retailer to retailer, so not quite sure what you're on about.

  • These big companies give me the ***** they all claim to be the cheapest and if not will beat anyone blah blah blah but when it comes down to it they have so many restrictions and caveats that any victory like this is great. I find HN and JB the biggest pains when its comes to price matching but also they advertise the most about how great their prices are when they are not. I just don't bother with these two for any purchase. Its war, consumer vs retailer any victory by the savvy consumer is hard fought and comes at the cost of many foot soldiers paying full price/retail. Oops I seem to be ranting, sorry.

    • Actually Officeworks are traditionally the most reasonable ones when it comes to price matching and actually supporting their offer to customers (hence so many deals here talking about price matching deals there). They are also in a position to look up websites not just price match a current catalogue. Harvey Norman are probably the worst as try every excuse to get out of it - they often won't even match price with their own stores for legitimate offers (ie, not grey market matches like this). Rants are welcome when directed at those retailers that really deserve it ;-)

  • I been to couple of officeworks here in Sydney last 2days, most got no stock.
Has anyone bought the TZ10 for a cheaper price in Sydney. I am in Sydney looking to purchase TZ10 for 300 mark as per receipt.

  • I like to thank Barbo, with his receipt I got a new TZ10 today from an ooficeworks store in perth. They have the price match details in system, then re-checked the competitor for availability and (bingo) price matched it for me. I am now a proud owner.

    Thanks again Barbo.
