iPhone X 256GB $100pm (25GB Data) @ Optus, In Store (New Customers) [24 Month Contract]

160

Just went into the Optus store at Highpoint and they were offering the iPhone X 256 GB for $100 per month for new customers only. Tried to get me to sign up a new number as I'm an existing customer. Still thinking about if I want a new number or not. Great Deal!!!!

Apparently it's below the line.

$79 plan with 25GB of data and unlimited calls and text
$21 on top for the phone.

    That's one expensive lemon.

    • I do like my expensive lemon

    So 100x24=2400
    Phone is worth 1400to1500
    So 24 months with 25gb for 900 to 1000
Ehich is 37 to 42 per month

    Not too bad

    • +12

      Quick mafs

    • Phone is $1829rrp which would make it $23.79 per month at full price.

      • If you are not in a big family. I personally think $149 plan + $5 share data sim can help you save more.

200G data you can forget your ADSL/NBN Plan.

Do they provide a security escort to your car? #Knifepoint

    • +1

Now now… Stabbings are WAY down lately.

      • +5

Like further down the back, or below the belt?

        • +1

You literally made me laugh out loud with that one :)

(Of course it hurt to do it; I still have a puncture wound to my left kidney from the last time I went to Knifepoint.)

    • in melbourne only get security escort to car in suburbs with african gangs ….. nike also offer security escort to car so your runners don’t get stolen.

Just be wary of when they offer you these deals in store that it's not the plan to lease the phone, as you want to avoid these deals like the plague.

    • +3

I asked them and they said it's not a leasing plan

  • is that in store promo only? i was looking at their website yesterday but couldn't find anything on a $100 plan with that inclusions. I just checked again and it not on their website.

    • I believe it's a below the line offer in store only

  • Still thinking about if I want a new number or not.

If you really want to get one port out and back in. Why would you want to get a different number?

    • +2

i’ve had the same number for 11 years and people, know it …… it really gives me the sh&ts when people get a new number and i get strange missed calls or you try and call them and the number in your contact is invalid.

      • +1

yep. if OP really wants to take up the offer, he/she should port out to a $2 sim and back in as a "new customer"

        • I was with Optus for some 15 years. Unfortunately they changed their focus from looking after existing customers to offering only new customers worthwhile deals. Be prepared to shop for a new telco at the end of the contract.

        • we only have 3 telcos to choose from and when your contract expires is who has the best deal and don’t expect telstra to match or under cut optus or voda so now down to 2 options for the cost conscious.

  • Is it the lease plan you are talking about? Or did I missed the promo?

    • No, it's a new promo plan. It's not leasing. It's under the table offer for new customers.

  • What's the data amount?

  • $149 200GB plan is much better value IMO, huge data(cancel your ADSL/Cable at home) + Unlimited Roaming call + unlimited international call. If you can get student ID, then $134 p.m. of course you need to live in optus 4G coverage.

    • agree!!!!

    • +2

Seems ok for some but 200GB wouldn’t be nearly enough for our house hold yet we wouldn’t come close to 25GB for a mobile line.

Also probably only good if you’re the sole user and don’t have devices dependant on persistent connections, otherwise when you leave home so does the network connection for the house.

      • +1

not if you add a $5/month data sharing sim (i think the $5/500mb data share/data pool sims are still available). then you can leave the sim in a 4G modem at home for everyone to use while youre out with the phone :)

        • I didn't think those had been available for years

        • @isaidhey: the one-off $5 sums haven't been available for some time but I'm fairly sure there's still a $5 per month option.

        • yes, still advertised on their web site , still sold, just not promoted by in store staff as it. just into other plans.

it’s one reason im with optus and not telstra who charge for the shared sim per month not a one off.

probabaly not that popular as ipad 4 g costs more than wireless only and people tether off the phones …. i have usb dongle as wifi usually sucks at training courses so i use the dongle for my laptop.

Don’t forget to contact support if they won’t let you have the deal / keep you’re number. I contacted them last week about the $30 sim plan asking if I could change my plan, first guy told me it was impossible because I was an existing customer and I’d need to change my number as well. Contacted them again later, second guy said it was no problem.

  • Anyway to make it work for existing customers?

    • Read the previous comments

  • Has anyone had confirmations this is available at other stores?

    • +1

Yes, it's available in all Optus stores. Just for new customers.

    • +1

I just got mine from a Harvey Norman, free case too :-)

  • +1

Could you please check if it's a lease or own a phone plan?

    • The OP already commented on this above… it's not leasing.

  • I still prefer to buy phone directly。
    I got iphonex 256g for $1386 and signed a 12m plan for$30/m, that makes total cost for 2 years, =$1386+30x12x2= $2106.

$30/m plan for 12m with Optus, I have 15gb/m data, unlimited au calls, 300 international calls.

oh wait, next year maybe I can get cheaper and sweeter plan ;)

I also warn everyone Optus's customer support is absolutely horrendous. I have experienced many bill errors from a previous offer on Ozb and had to raise 2 complaints with the TIO to get them resolved as they just have no idea.

    • I personally wouldnt think this is an issue here where you have unlimited talk text and 25gb but yeah… Optus has terrible customer support.

Oddly even Vodafone is better which just about says it all.

Thank god Apple picks up the slack on the $1,600 plus phone.

  • Don't see the offer showing up on the website? Is it up/anyone have a direct link?

    • OP said it's in store only.

  • +2

Can we get student discount on this plan?

    • I was wondering the same thing. Are they generally offered in store?

  • I got the 100gb iPad Pro 12.9 plan recently and I generally found that speeds at regional area is pretty darn good. Hovering at 100MBit/s around Meadows SA. If I’m in cbd, not so good, probably because of more users around? But I’m looking to get one of Optus plans once my Telstra contract finishes up.

    • did some testing with optus and telstra sim over christmas in melb cbd and country ( gippsland and coast) same coverage, similar speeds differences can be where towers are and walls in buildings …. where i live optus tower is back at house, telstra is at front of house ….. once outside both are the same signal …… ( double brick perils house surrounded by flats).

in country i noticed some places had band 28 so i had coverage from optus and telstra, other bands no coverage ( so china droid had no signal but LG worked fine) …. due to frequency and terrain.

      so i’m staying on optus.

  • Student discount is online only. Cant do it instore

  • Does this plan include data-free music and video streaming? :P

    • Yep, every Optus plan does (Netflix, Stan, Spotify, etc)

      • no they stripped netflix from the sim only plans, though still do spotify ….. with a handset plan they do both.

  • Got this deal via the online chat. First consultant said for new customers only. 2nd consultant Phil did the deal. Kept same number.

  • Wish I hadn't seen this.

    I signed up last week for a $98 pre month… iPhone X 64GB with 16GB of data.

    :(

    • I swear I read something about a "Cooling off period" on the Optus website. I could be wrong but worth a check?

      • Guy at the Optus store told me that I could do that… but depending on why I leave they may not let you back on for some time.

        • +1

Oh yeah I guess you couldn't sign up to Optus again.

          @rollypollym:

End of the day I am not too annoyed.

I never use more than like 30GB on an iPhone anyway… used to have an iPhone 7 128GB and it never got below 100GB in use. And I never use more than about 5GB a month. So that is fine.

          Just annoying.

        • @daven1985: Good attitude. You win some, you lose some I guess. I am going to try and get this deal today and maybe next month Optus will do the 25% off Friends and Family deal they did last year…
