Havn't seen this in OzBargain in a while. I still prefer the Gen8/9 microservers and the ML10. Been waiting for deals on those to reappear here. :(

    • +2

Yeah, no iLO. What were they thinking!

    • +2

Yeah, was waiting for the Gen10 then when it came out, so disappointed went and bought another Gen8.

Gen8 has iLo. Replaceable CPU. Upgraded to Xeon 1265lv2 for $120 and it's a screamer. A much better server than the Gen10.

      • best place for gen8 atm? i've been keeping eye out on deals for these microservers and have never seen for a long time.

        • Took a gamble on second hand and managed to score one in mint condition with 16GB Crucial already installed for less than a G10. I was still getting reamed - paying top dollar for a 3 year old second hand G8 - but wasn't in a position to bargain. They're getting rare as hen's teeth now.

        • @nhand42:

booo… looking at selling it yet?? :P you could probably list it as its own ozbargain, limited stock

          @v00d00 AU:

Lol, never. I've got three of them in a Proxmox cluster and if anything I want more nodes, not fewer.

      • You were able to source a 1265lv2? I tried for almost a year and gave up in the end. Went with a 1260 instead. They were impossible to find for <$800 when I was looking (and that was second hand). Even contacted Intel for advice on how to get one. I don't understand why they don't continue to make lower power Xeon chips anymore. There is definitely a market for them.

        • Yeah, aliexpress is selling second hand 1265lv2. I've heard mixed things about second hand cpus but the one I got had no obvious damage and has been working fine for many months. Changing it over takes about 15 minutes.

Just checked aliexpress and holy cow they've shot up in price. I paid $120 last year. Now they're asking $250! Still worth it IMO. The processing power for Plex alone is about 5x faster. And the extra cores are good for VMs.

        • @nhand42: Nice, I agree definitely worth the upgrade. Happy with my 1260, almost as good but would have preferred the 1265 obviously.

@dogboy: For what it's worth. I got a 1260L as well. I paid US $181.98 back in 2016. I'd do it again as well.

    • Cost has gone up substantially compared to previous years though..

      • is there any other alternatives out there? i've been considering purchasing something, but havnt seen anything that could be remotely close to value/cost.

        • Not anymore these days - unless you go for a NAS box which will limit functionality quite a bit. Personally I have a refurbed HP EliteDesk 800 G1 with a 4xxx series i5 in there. Can squeeze 4x3.5" and maybe an SSD in there if you get a RAID card.. That should set you back about $300 but has way more guts than this (I was lucky to get a pristine one that was literally unused).

    • I checked for both Gen 8 and 9 deals. Couldn't find anything worthy of posting unfortunately.

  • It had taken me many hours to update and install software into Gen8. I have not heard of iLo until that time and is now appreciating its power. I have managed to grab the Intel Xeon E3-1265LV2 for about $200 a few months ago. There were many of them from China. I think it came off from a commercial server.

I am still running freenas on a N40L. I was looking at the Gen 8's but with a max of 16 Gig of ram I thought I would wait for the Gen 10. Then HP severed up this shit. Wish I had of grabbed an Gen 8 1610T when they were cheap and put a Xeon in it.

  • We got an even better deal now with HP Non-ECC RAM instead of Crucial RAM - $450.00 Shipped
    *20 Units left

    Cheers,
    PC Lan

    • Hi rep, you still have any deals on this??

  • +2

Still much refer the N54L due to being able to run 6 3.5" drives in it instead of only 4 of the newer ones. Guess my N54L will keep kicking for a few more years!

    • +3

      My 3x N40L are still running 24/7

    • +1

Same bucket, I need to fit 6 hdds as well so I'm stuck with the N54L.
If only I could find a cheap iLO card for it.

    • i thought this one got 6SATA too, cant find everything in the box?

  • +1

Cant understand why they replaced the ECC RAM with non ECC RAM

    • i think because even on the second hand market ECC ram is hell expensive. Checked the prices of DDR4 ram recently?

  • good price
