  • Wow… right after I bought the Bose yesterday.

    • I feel your pain. I just bought the Sony yesterday for $367, it's the same model, so even worse for me

  • +6

Bought one. Not sure why I need it but in the name of ozb spirit.

    • I know right? I don't actually need one but this is so tempting

  • +1

Thanks OP. Also available in gold.

  • +1

    I must resist! I have Bose QC35 I so I don't need this. Resiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist!

    • Cannot resiiiiist!

    • +1

      Resistance is futile.

      This is ozbargain.

    • +1

      So did you get one?

      • +1

Nope! Managed to resist. I'm proud of myself. Not sure if I'll be able to if they go even cheaper in the near future though. lol

        • Guess what…..THEY DID :D

          Resistance is futile my friend

        • @WishIHadAfridge: Whaaaat? Cheaper than $312? Where?

Edit: Oh! The Costco deal? Unfortunately I don't have membership, and don't even know someone who has it in my circle if peeps.

        • @AussieDaddy:

          Whats your closest costco?

        • @WishIHadAfridge: I am in SA, and saw someone saying in that post they couldn't find any stock here.

  • +9

For those that don't mind there are also manufacturer refurbished with 12 month Sony warranty sold by Sony on eBay for $260 on their eBay store (with 5% discount code) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282858776872

    • Thanks for posting. Very tempted by this. Does anyone have any reservations re buying a refurb pair from Sony?

      • +1

Only $50 difference. Not sure about the warranty on refurbs, but if I had to buy one I would go for the brand new one on the deal here.

        • +2

It's sold by Sony and therefore is listed as sold with 12 month warranty - the ozbargainer in me would save the $52

        • @urbancartel: I'm going to assume its something like box damage or the like, can't imagine too many have gone back and needed repairs, maybe change of mind returns also? Worth the punt.

    • Which discount code is active for the 5%?

    • now out of stock

  • How is it compare to the Sony MDR1000X ?

    • These are less likely to break. The original MDR1000x had a structural flaw with it's movable earcup joints.

      • Battery life is also longer.

  • Thanks OP. I have been resisting but this one got me

  • Is anyone able to comment on whether these are good for the gym? Cheers!

    • +3

I have a pair of Sony WH1000XM2B - I would say they are not good for the gym, something like a pair of bluetooth IEMs designed for sport would be better, like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278281. Over ear headphones like the Sony WH1000XM2B aren't really practical in the gym, unless all you did there was run on the treadmill, you'd also probably find they'd get a bit hot and sweaty around the ears.

      • Legend, I'll check those ones out. Thanks mate!

    • +1

These aren't meant for the gym, they are more suited for travelling and commuting.

The noise cancelling function does not cancel out human speech, only the constant low frequency noise generated by engines for example.

I recommend something like Bluetooth iems. For eg Meizu ep51

      • Makes sense, I'll look into iems then. Thanks mate!

      • It doesn't cancel out speech. But speech will sound softer than without ANC.

Whenever someone talks to me, I have to either palm the right cup to let in sound, or take them off.

If someone calls me from behind and doesn't tap me on the shoulder, I won't even notice they are speaking to me.

That said, don't expect to walk into a store that plays radio on the loudspeaker and expect to block that out. It will still be softer and you can hear what you're listening to perfectly fine without turning it up. That's better for ear health than turning it up in a crowded place.

    • +1

This wont go well for gym….

I recently bought the Bose SoundSport Free during 20% eBay sale from VideoPro for ~$250 specifically for gym use and can highly recommend that.

It's truly wireless and most importantly water/sweat resistance.

    • Majority of comments are saying it isn't good for the gym.

That said, my gym (in the city) is full of people wearing these over-ear headphones, in fact i've only ever seen one other person wear in-ears.

For me, my ears get easily irritated with in-ears so always prefer over-ears, but I don't use any at the gym personally.

    • The WH-1000XM2 can make some ears sweaty even when sitting doing nothing.

Bragi's "The Headphone" are the best gym/exercise headphones I've used (other products of that type are probably just as ideal). With wireless earbuds connected to each other by a cord (e.g. Jaybird BlueBuds) I had to worry about the cord catching on things - even just turning my head could sometimes tug on the cord and pull one of the earbuds out.

    • Its too heavy and comes of your head when you bench press, lay down etcs.

Out of Stock in most stores around Melb CBD but can get free delivery via Shipster

    • Yep true. Mornington has them in stock

    • If you don't mind waiting a week or so you can select a store without stock and still purchase them. The store will then get them in and let you know when they arrive. I did this recently with a Switch and it only took a few days for the store to get the stock.

      • May as well just get them shipped then

  • +1

Never thought I'd buy $300 headphones but I guess today's the day. Just hope our stops working one day so I can refund them.

    • The sooner the better. Our hearing gets a little worse every day.
I wish I bought better headphones when I was 18

  • Are these worth buying for a novice who is no audiophile? The previous one I used were a base model wired Sony headphones bought at DS few years ago which I was more than satisfied with.

    • what music genre do you enjoy?

      • Mostly Trance and occasionally some Indian music albums. I see that these are worth every dollar spent but spending $300+ for headphones is something I never imagined will do. Does these come with all the latest bells and whistles in terms of audio tech?

        • I think you are paying more for the bluetooth + noise cancelling functionality of it… Tbh if you realllly wanted sound quality there is cheaper alternatives. But in terms of bells and whistles, this does have the latest and greatest with a nice app which goes with it.

So all in all, if you want a bluetooth set with noise cancelling and bells and whistles; I think this would be for you :)

    • +1

By no means noise cancelling headphones are considered for audiophile.
      They are more for commuting.

    • The main features of these is the bluetooth and the noise cancelling, then sound quality. That said these have got very good reviews (I do not own a pair though).

    • +1

      They're not audiophile headphones.

The reason they're expensive is because of best in class ANC.

  • Seriously good buy. I swapped from Audiofly AF180s to these because I'm on the plane loads now. They're amazing.

  • Are these good for drowning out train noise?

    • +1

Yes. I use them every day on the train.

  • What are difference between WH1000XM2B and WH-1000XM2 ?
It is a week too late, as I just bought from Allphone WH1000XM2 a week ago!

    • +4

Perhaps the 'B' stands for black. I was unable to find any reference to this model number after googling for 0.00012 seconds.

    • B stands for black and N stands for gold

      • Makes sense.

      • thanks

  • +3

My only gripe with these is that the NC switches off after 5 minutes if Bluetooth is turned off. For people like me who travel a bit and just want the NC in cabin, the 35s are better

    • +1

Why not just leave the bluetooth on?

      • Because then your phone runs out of battery in the plane

        • +1

There are charge points for every seat in my recent trips

        • @Jamesx:

Hardly able to charge anything on those usb ports in the plane. Well phones anyway.

    • +5

The sound quality is absolute balls in the 35s compared to this. Im not an audophile by any means but this is the first set of wireless headphones where the sound profile isnt complete mud. I recommend everyone looking to buy pop into JB and try them side by side. There is an actual noticeable difference in music quality. For calls 35 is better so if calls are your main then then the Bose is better for you. Otherwise this is better handsdown.

      • +2

I agree. But the 35s are way more comfortable. My ears were getting too hot within 10 minutes of trying the Sony.

        • -1

35 look better, are less bulky and are more comfortable.

    • +1

Just leave the 3.5mm cord plugged in and ANC will remain on. Or you could get a cheap 3.5mm clicker/dust plug.

      • That defeats buying "wireless"

    • Believe if you leave the audio cable in the NC should still work without bluetooth on. So there are ways around it. Good for if your trying to sleep on plane.

  • I don't need wireless, any recommendations?

  • Good luck trying to find any stock in Brisbane and Gold Coast. I was trying to find stock so I could pricematch an online store during the Chinese new year 10% gift card deal at HN. No stock anywhere.

Edit: your best bet would be to get JB Hifi to match.

    • Go to JB hi Fi. They price match any store in Australia, provided it has a physical store.
Call around a few, eventually one will probs say yes.

      • Go to JB hi Fi. They price match any store in Australia, provided it has a physical store.

Wasn’t my experience at JB Broadway (NSW) unless they’ve update their company policy since.

        • +1

Just got back and was successful even though out of stock

    • Best way is go to SONY Kiosk. Better service

      • I couldn't disagree more. You are better off with other retailers. I have experienced successive failures at Sony Online AND Kiosk . Worst customer services ever. They kept lying about the delivery/arrival dates. In the end I got so sick of it and got a refund for this particular set of headphones. No apologies for wasting two months over the Christmas with a string of emails and calls. AVOID (not the product but Sony Kiosk and online)!

  • +3

Tempting but spent way too much on OZB deals this month.

Having tested these and the Bose QC35 when they were both on sale in December when a mate wanted me to help him decide on which pair to buy.

I found the Bose physically draining after any length of wear (my friend didn't get the same experience) and the sound was more flat (we both agreed on this). No such issue with the Sony's, they were more comfortable and had what seems like a wider sound stage. One thing I found odd was that for closed headphones they leak a fair bit of sound out.

  • Saw this last night but price hadn't updated lol, great find OP!

  • Thanks! Just woke up and my brain is still warming up. But bought one with my $50 gift card received from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324615

Now I have to find a good explanation to the wife why I need it.

    • +7

No need for an explanation, these will block her questions out so don't worry!

      • +1

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5673767/redir

Does not block human noise apparently.

        • +2

It will if you put it up loud enough :)

        • +1

I'd say if you have ANC on with no ambient sound setting, it definitely blocks our human noise. Unless she is screaming or shouting I guess, my co-workers don't do that and I live alone, so I have no one to test.

      • +4

thanks. I’ll leave it on for the rest of my life.

  • Does it includes aeroplane adapter plug or 3.5mm cable?

    • Yes

    • From an unboxing vid I saw it did

    • Yes and yes

  • Can I price match with jbhifi and buy using 5% egift card? Or I should ring JB first?

    • +1

      Yes, just matched

      • Thanks, I just matched and they added the delivery price since it's out of stock. Total is $320.

        • They happily matched $312 for me, no question asked.

        • @fxwwj: same here

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: that's okay. I bought Ultimate Teen Gift Cards today at Woolies because they are giving 1000 points ($5) for $50 and 600 points ($3) for $30.

          Bought 6 $50 gc and 1 $30.

Woolies then deducted my points $10 so I paid $320 for all the gc.

          $320-$33 is $287 (rounded)

Could save more if I bought egift woolies card but I could not be bothered.

I think my math is correct.

        • @iregretmyusername: my head hurts
