No mention of zigbee, so its the original Xiaomi standalone app version? I'm not 100% sure on this, but the zigbee one is $18 so these seem to be different products.

It's cheap enough for me to pull the trigger.

HOW TO GET THE DEAL:
Go to the product link and sign into DD4 account. Once at the product link page, select seller coupons - there iwll be one 20% off spend over $0. Click get this coupon

Add to cart (as many as you want), then proceed ot checkout, drop down the coupon box and apply the 20% off $0 spend.

BONUS: This isn't always working and isnt intentional, but if you add another product the 20% off shouldnt really apply to, return to your cart, select the airmail option for shipping on the non-compliant product, it will apply the 20% discount to everything in cart. Proceed to checkout, but check the figure before paying of course. My 1st attempt worked, got a great deal, paid for via paypal, 2nd attempt on a seperate account/different browser, when i got the paypal screen, discount was only applied to the wifi socket adaptor. YMMV.

The Good:
- Cheap and easy to setup
- No Gateway required
- Work fine after power outage etc; its all setup in the cloud not in persistent settings of camera. Worst case (if unplugged for > month) may need to reset and reconnect.

The Bad:
- The scheduling is in chinese, easy to setup though, not too many characters to recognise. Will post link to the pdf translating the scheduling
- Mi Home integration - can add to usual features of Mi Home (Automation etc)
- Scheduling etc is stored in the cloud (potentially a bad there for those worried about privacy)
- Stupid design; same as the zigbee socket - DOES NOT WORK ON 2 PRONG PLUGS. The earth pin unblocks the socket. If you dont have the earth pin in the appliance you are plugging in, the pin sockets remain blocked off.
- Wider than the Zigbee variant

Back on - 49 units back in stock.!!!!

UPDATE: They've removed the seller coupon for the deal, if you claimed the coupon yesterday, you can still use it and get the right price. Unfortunately the same doesnt apply if you didnt grab the coupon yesterday :(.

  • No mention of zigbee, so its the original Xiaomi standalone app version? I'm not 100% sure on this, but the zigbee one is $18 so these seem to be different products.

Correct, this is the original wifi version

    • +1

The zigbee one also monitors energy usage, this one is just a switch - handy for automating dump appliances.

      • +3

        dump appliances

        Sheeet…

        • Literally

      • +1

        dump appliances

Cool I'll be hooking this up to my toilet too

  • Does the unit have to always be connected to the app for it to function? For example, if I had a timer set up, but I close the app process in my phone or something, will it continue to function?

    • +2

It uses the cloud for scheduling. You don't need to keep the app open.

      • so you need the internet on ? i was going to connect it to my router, to allow me to turn it off at night and on in the morning !

        • Oh I don't know if it just gets the config from the cloud periodically, or whether it needs continuous connection to the internet.

        • @CaffeinatedTech: if you want to schedule then Internet is not required but to manually turn it on-off, you do need internet as the connection is made via internet.

  • +1

"Timing switch, close some home appliances in long-term standby state, also can make some household appliances intelligent, east to control"

Provided you can read the Chinese instructions/labels in the Xiaomi smart home APP.

    • -1

      east to control

      Why would direction matter?

      • Download the APP and see for yourself.

        • My wifi doesn't work south so I can't

  • +1

These are awesome, use one for your kettle so you can turn it on before getting out of bed in the morning.

Great to see some good prices for Xiaomi products again, Thanks MorriJ

    • This is one of the only uses I could think of for such device which I have.
*Boiling kettle (if remember to flip down kettle boil switch night before etc) .
*Heating/cooling before I get home, by remotely turning on portable air con.
Im interested as to what uses others have for swicthing smart plugs on/off remotely.
I have 1 that came as part of smart home kit, camera, motion detector, smart-plug…. But I didn't find much use for any of them besides security camera for seeing my home when Im not there.

      • +1

I use the zigbee version for my portable aircon so I can keep track of electricity use.

And will use another Zigbee version, as I recently unplugged the power board all my Computer gear was plugged into and found that it was burnt, so will use one to check for 'energy spikes'.

Could also use them for 'Dumb' lamps to turn the no/off with Xiaomi switched, buttons.

Also for turning LED lights on/off the same way as well.

  • Any deals on the zigbee version, been holding out for zigbee and got excited thinking a deal had finally popped up again for one.

  • Website was being a pain in Chrome, would just reload the same page when I got to choosing the payment method. In the end I had to go to the dark side and use Edge to make the payment :/ Hope they're worth the trouble, as the remote ones I got from aldi (RF ones) reset whenever the power goes out and you have to go find them and link them up again.

  • Is this AU plug on the male side? Thanks.

    • Yes, but up side down.

    • Au plug on both sides. I have a few of these, the main issue with them is that theres a safety mechanism in which a 3 prong plug will release. I think its the ground prong. You would require something like a screw driver to release that mechanism to be able to plug in 2 prong AU plugs. Its not a big problem if you dont plan on changing plugs that you put on these adapters often but could get quite annoying sometimes.

      • It is a safety mechanism so that you can only use the switch with earthed appliances.

Sticking a screw driver into a socket is not a good idea.

    • It's a China standard plug which is almost the same as an Australian one.

It is up side down, has no insulated pins and the pins are slightly different dimensions

    • Stupid design; same as the zigbee socket - DOES NOT WORK ON 2 PRONG PLUGS. The earth pin unblocks the socket.

This design is for childproofing. You have to press really hard (it won't break, I tried) when using 2 prong plugs.

    • Plug a double adaptor or power board into it first.

      • +1

Yeah, I'm using a cheap export chinese plug for these issues. Just like a double adapter, but a single adaptor :).

    • I put mine into the vice, wouldnt budge. Ended up warping the little plastic lug things, didnt break it, but wouldnt go in. I couldn't apply that pressure with my hands - maybe you got lucky?

Spring sitting under the earth plug suggests it might need to be engaged to move the corresponding flaps on the active pins. Don't want to pull my unit apart, but for the life of me cannot plug in this 2 prong plug for the fan :)

      • I just pressed the earth switch with a tiny screwdriver then slipped it out as the 2 prong plug went in

        • Yep its way easy, I use a split lollypop stick from my golden gaytimes :D

  • I have the zigbee version of the socket but just could not get it to connect it to my phone using the app. Can anyone help with instructions or a link to step-by-step instructions to get it working?

    • +1

Do you have a zigbee gateway? If not, it won't work.

Zigbee version requires a zigbee gateway - your phone cant talk to it natively and it cant talk to the internet natively.

The WIFI version (this one) does.

      • Crap! I bought it without knowing that. Thanks anyway!

        • Got a raspberry pi?

        • @MorriJ: Oh yes… Can I use that?

        • +1

@polarq: I was going to play with a setup this weekend of native zigbee integration into a few home automation variants running off a pi devioce. I'll let you know how I go.

        • @MorriJ: Cool! Sounds good. Thanks a lot. :)

  • does this block the adjacent plug?

    • Yep, if using on a 2 board powerboard, it will cover the socket above it. It's not wide enough to interfere with the powerpoint on a standard outlet though, so works fine on wall outlets*

*Chinese pins are thinner, there is a risk you will have the socket fall out if something heavy placed on it, although unlikely as it is 3 pronged, not 2.

Won't block the plug next to it, not wide enough, only about 4.5cm wide?

      • +2

        Chinese pins are thinner

LOL.. I see what you did there. Giggity

    • I think most of them do.
I just bought double adapter, only $1 at bunnings for item with transformer that blocks adjacent plug. I assume could do the same for this smart plug.

  • Got two ZigBee ones and one of them stopped working properly. Can't switch devices on or off. No apparent reason either. Only ever switched it less than 10 times. Power monitoring still works though but power is stuck on.

    • That happened to one of mine, but it automatically fixed up. Try a different power board or wall socket.

  • Does it works with Google Home

    • +1

Not natively. You can connect it to Home Assistant and then use Google Home to control it. It's a bit of fiddling about but once it's set up it works really well.

      • Thanks pete

      • hi pete is there a link on how to get this to work? I got other xm products too it'll be great to be able to control them with the GH. Thanks mate.

        • I don't have a definitive guide but if you've already got Home Assistant set up then this is the configuration bit and how to get the token.

          https://www.home-assistant.io/components/switch.xiaomi_miio/

Regarding he token, you have to use an older version of the Mi Home app because they've recently updated it to not work. There are instructions on that there. If you've saved all your devices, you don't have to re-add them when you downgrade the app.

If you need Home Assistant, it's pretty straight forward to get up and running. You just need a raspberry pi and an SD card.
          https://www.home-assistant.io/hassio/installation/

Once they're hooked into HA I use IFTTT to add them to Google Home. You use a Google Assistant If and a Web Request Then.

I have a Xiaomi Smart Board which, because it can measure power use, I've set up to get the Google Home lady to tell me when the washing machine is done.

  • +1

    Ozbargained. No stock left 😣

    • Damnit. :(

      • Back on

  • ok so this is a power timer unit so you can connect it to your phone via home wifi so you connect it to a lamp or something and from work you can turn it off and on?
sorry i'm sounding nooby as i still don't get how practical you use this device for?

    • Yes that is one application for it.

I have the zigbee versions of this and have them linked to alarms (alternate lights on/off a few times), link them to xiaomi switches to turn lights on/off, have them set on my automation profiles so when i go to bed everything gets turned off, certain things get turned on when i get home.

theres a ton of stuff you can do, just got to use your imagination and a bit of tiem with the mihome app.

      • I don't know maybe i don't have an imaginative mind but all those things, isn't it easier to just switch on/off when you get to your place.

I mean unless you can do that with the whole house with lighting but still there will be some lights that you don't want to have turned on when you get home

        • Each to their own mate.

If its not for you then dont bother I guess.

        • @MickMonk:

          appreciate your honest replies :)

  • My experience with "smart" devices is that they are the opposite.

  • Just ordered 2. Any idea how long shipping takes?

  • Where is the seller coupon selection? i cant seem to find it

  • The site is so broken on my side here.
After clear browser cache in Ie and chrome 65, Not responding after clicking pay in payment page.
Do I need some chinese browser to make it worK?????

  • it show $12.93.
    cant find seller coupon

    • Looks like they've pulled the seller coupon.

I can't remember what the coupon ID was; no history in my browser, will remember to record the coupon url next time, sorry.

      • thanks mate

        • The coupon would still work, just need to know what the code is unfortunately and i didnt record it yesterday :(.

Have plenty of others, DD4off6 - reduce 12.93 by 6%
