Refurbished MacBook Air 11.6" $699 Catch.com.au - Is It a Good Buy?

Hi Guys,

Is this a good buy?

Price seems reasonable for 2014 model at $699. I see second hand one selling for around the same for older model on eBay, so this one seems to be better value with 3 months warranty?

I am currently using Lenovo Miix 510, which is a 12" 2 in 1 1920X1200. It works fine, but it is kind of hard to use it on my laps and poor battery life. I mainly use it to learn Python/R as well as internet browsing. I have a 15 inch HP work laptop that I use from time to time.

Has anyone purchased 11.6" refurbished MacBook Air? What is your experience with it? What is the battery life like?

Thanks,
Bernie

You'll be going from a slightly outdated device to an even more outdated one. Haswell CPU and hobbled by Meltdown CPU bug means less efficiency

The battery life would be probably be an improvement, but everything else is either a downgrade (display resolution and Panel type, IO ports) or a side grade (Air keyboards keys are shallow and don't have a lot of travel.)

Why not buy a proper Lenovo T-series or Dell Latitude? Check the Dell Outlet.

  • I think they are nice laptop for their time but they are now outdated unfortunately

  • Keep in mind that model sold for $1099 back in 2014 so you're getting 36% off retail for a four year old, used laptop….

My advice, sell the Miix, wait for a 20% off ebay sale (or a good deal on Dell outlet) and buy a new, proper laptop.

Unless you "need" Mac OS, Apple laptops are (no longer) worth the money for the features or specs.
