    • my 1070 could run this easily

      • +2

What games run at 1440p 144hz?
I'm interested because right now I am in ultrawide on a 1060 3gb and I play most esport ganes on low to medium at 160 fps

        • +4

          my 980ti could. crysis

        • +1

@TarquinOliverNimrod: what games do you run at this res and refresh rate?

        • like pretty much all ?? anything new will say PUBG for example

        • @Bargain4Days: almost every game? i dont play on ultra tho. gtx 980 and 1060 6gb on medium would i reckon

        • +2

          @schwifty: pubg on 1440p at 144hz stable???

        • +1

          @schwifty:I didn't neg though

        • -2

of course it is any main stream game will run at most likely 4k

        • -8

@Bargain4Days: dissing is basically the same thing

        • +2

@schwifty:I'm not dissing anything though, what I'm trying to say is that it is hard to run at 1440p and 144hz on high settings stable,

        • @Bargain4Days: no it isnt a 1070 will easily do it

        • +2

          @schwifty: I haven't seen anyone able to run pubg at 1440p 144hz stable on a 1070

        • -2

          @Bargain4Days: well then come here

        • @schwifty:

Congrats. Your the only one in the world to achieve this

        • @schwifty: It won't run anything new 144FPS maximum settings.

          LOL.

        • 160fps on a 144hz screen with gsync?

        • +1

What games run at 1440p 144hz?

Indie games for sure. Otherwise some older stuff.

        • @lostn: indie games are harder to run. I can barely get 65fps in 7days2die on my vega card. I can run crysis though

        • +1

@idonotknowwhy: Depends what indie. Something like Undertale or anything using pixel art it could handle for sure. If they support 4K.

      • +5

        Lol you're dreaming!
1070 can run modern AAA's at high-max details at 60-90Hz on 1440p. No chance of 144Hz.

    • +1

Probably for guaranteed 144fps at ultra settings, but you don't need that with G-Sync, just utilize 1070 or better and let the fps fluctuate. Most of the time with most games you'll get around 144fps if you have a decent CPU and don't have every setting at absolute maximum, when it dips down the G-Sync will still allow it to look good.

      • I assumed gsync just sync each frame from you to each frame outputed to monitor, so it when it dips down the fps, it will look laggy

        • It doesn't from 144fps to still above 100fps, if you are at 100fps and it drops to below 70fps then you notice it.

    • +2

BS. I have a 144hz 1440p Asus monitor, my 1070 runs games like Battlefield 1 on Ultra at 130fps.

Only the top graphical games like The Division on Ultra or poorly optimised ones like Mafia 3 would run lower around 50fps.

    • -1

You're clearly an idiot. All my games on a normal 1080 run ultra around 100-140fps 9 series about 10% less… but good try

    • If you have g-sync you don't need the full 144 fps to get more out of it than you can from a 60hz monitor. If you can handle more than 60 fps, it's wasted performance on a 60hz monitor.

      It's still useful.

I'm just not a fan of TN screens.

  • +7

Might be worth mentioning that it's a G-Sync monitor in the title.

    • +11

      Should also mention TN panel

      • +2

Yep. That was a mini roller coaster as I thought "Good monitor, oh wait its G-Sync, an amazing monitor, oh wait it is a TN panel, just a good monitor again."

        • +3

Is there such a thing as a 144Hz ISP panel?

        • +1

@Viper8: Yeah, I think they tend to be around the $900 mark unless you go Korean though

        • +2

          @Viper8:

If you want the 1ms response time at any Hz then it cant't be IPS anyway

        • @Viper8:
Yes, I'm using one right now. AGON AG271QG

        • @Viper8:

          Nixeus EDG 27

        • @StaboCrabo: 4ms isn't bad on IPS panels, or an input lag of 10ms. I'd chose that with a superior image quality unless I played with the goal of becoming a professional gamer.

        • @Viper8: Acer XB271HU, Asus has a model too but can't remember the exact name right now.

        • Acer has one that drops to $800 during the eBay sales.

        • @Synk:
I've got this monitor. It's a beast. Getting another for the missus for her birthday. I recommend this monitor. Most things run nicely at 1440p with my 1070 so no problems. Only issue I have with it seems to be a gsync issue (line down the middle, fixed with turning monitor off and on again).

        • I heard a sailor talk of 144hz IPS panel in Korea, but it might just be a legend.

        • @StaboCrabo:
Woops yea that's what I was thinking of. Can't get 1ms on IPS unfortunately.

  • +6

RRP of $999 for a TN panel in 2018? Even with the high refresh rate I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

    Panel Type, Surface:
    TN , Anti-Glare with 3H hardness

    • +2

There are some good and bad tn panels, I'm not sure about this one, but since it's from Dell I assume its a good tn panel

      • +1

Panel is only part of the formula. As much as I like Dell gear they're not known for making gaming screens, so if one must purchase a fast refresh / gaming screen other more established brands should be considered first.

        • Dell are a well-respected brand/company in general, and that's all that should be considered when purchasing tech, gaming or not.

    • +1

but for $599 its pretty good

    • +4

Pretty sure if you want 1ms and 144mhz TN is the only option .
Not a fan of TN myself but they have got a lot better although a cheap IPS is still miles better than a cheap TN IMHO .

    • +2

Why? It's better for competition gaming. Why recommend an inferior panel to someone who plays competitively?

    • That's what all the pro's use buddy. If you want the Hz you don't have a choice unfortunately.

    • I wouldn’t mind TN panels, I have a 4K TN panel monitor myself and am constantly looking at it straight on when gaming…

  • +4

Great price for a great monitor. I am currently using one.

    • Nice, just curious, how's the stand?

      • It does the job. I did replace it with a desk clamp style mount however as I like my monitors further away from me.

      • Stand is fine. Moves up and down.

  • How would the TN panel compare to the IPS U2715H

    • +3

They're completely different. The U2715 is targeted towards those needing more accurate colours vs TN which is more preferred by gamers.

      • -1

I wouldn't quite go that far: TN panels are generally inferior to IPS panels, regardless of whether you are a "gamer" or not.

Some (but sadly not all) of the new Ultrasharps have a "game mode" that bypass all the colour-accuracy circuitry, leaving you with a super nice response time of ~3ms (compared to a CRT monitor).

      • I have the U2715 and I still use it for gaming at 60fps. I wonder how different the colours of the TN would be compared to the IPS.

          vs

          http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2715h.htm

Scroll down to the colours section.

Usually you will see the IPS monitor covers much more of the SRGB colour space and is much more accurate and with better contrast, as is the case with with comparison.

        • If you're happy gaming at 60Hz then there's Zero reason to even consider a TN..

They are far too different and a TN panel is far too inferior for anyone used to a U2715 class screen.

        • @xuqi: pretty happy with it. The 1070 @1440p and 60fps seems to be a good combo.

          However this has g sync!

      • +4

TN which is more preferred by gamers.

TN panels are generally inferior to IPS panels

Competition gamers who value reaction times above all else will prefer TN.

IPS has noticeably better image quality so gamers who don't play competition will probably prefer this.

        • +2

IPS has noticeably better image quality so gamers who don't play competition will probably prefer this.

That's me. I don't play multiplayer games, so I don't need the 1ms or 144hz. I prefer it to look nice. I'm also not sure if I can tell the difference between 90 and 144.

  • Thanks for the heads up.
Been putting off getting something like this for so long and I just bit the bullet and grabbed on.

  • Missed out last time purchased this time thank you OP. :)

  • Can I use this on my surface book?

  • -5

But I can get 4K for $500 Samsung or Acer…28”

    • +2

      Yeah? Which one mate

      • I recently saw a Samsung 28 inch 4k for around that price.

But its a few years old model.

      • Well most of them but Acer cb281hk and Samsung u28e590d from a quick google. Even better models at $600

        • Both of the monitors mentioned are excellent options - except that they are Freesync and not G-Sync models. Thus the price difference.

  • Reviews on this is mixed, with poor black reproduction, and gamut on the lower end. It would have to break the $500 price barrier for me to consider buying it unfortunately.

    • +3

All traits of the TN technology.

      • Is VA any good compared to the others?

        • Mostly no, a few months ago I looked and there was only 1 good VA panel by Samsung, but the technology is developing into a good option between TN and IPS.

        • @FabMan: where would you rank it? i have the phillips 40" 4k monitor. seems good. but im a noob when it comes to picture quality. only downside it watching things during the day (light area) and the screen reflects.

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

The reviews here are pretty informative:
          Samsung VA monitor
I believe your Philips VA monitor

After all my readings and my experience, I went with a 34" Ultra-wide IPS panel. I don't competitively play games, I study a lot and I prefer higher quality images over response times. The thing is, it cost me a lot of dosh and you can get the Philips 40" for less than I bought the 34" for.

Gaming at 4K monitors will strain all GPU's and typically will not allow for a solid 60fps experience at the moment, however, 4K divides beautifully into 1920x1080 resolution and modern GPUs work very nicely at that resolution. Regardless of whether it is a VA panel, you'll probably still get a good image from it.

  • Bought two of these about 3 weeks ago when $799, from eBay store - maybe DELL are clearing stock. I'm happy with both displays in any case, just wish DELL could find the computers I ordered at the same time, so I could hook those up…

  • +2

Just in case anyone was still wondering, this monitor has a TN panel, and is inferior to the IPS overlords.

  • Ive had this and its fine for gaming… at this price its even better. Do your research if you buy unlike the plebs who comment and own an 1080p 60hz monitor.

  • Price on checkout comes to $599.40

  • This 144hz business is there a benefit if you game 1080p 100fps? And 1440p at 60fps? Just wondering what benefit id have over my Samsung 28"4K monitor.

    • +1

Smoother and less frame delay when framerates are unstable.

    • +1

Depends what Graphics card, I have a 1080 with this monitor running about 100-120fps on ultra at 1440p no problems, Running 4k usually kills more than half the fps

      • Radeon 480x 8GB. Samsung monitor atm is freesync but have it turned off i seem to game better at 1080p@100fps than 1440p@60fps freesync. Higher fps still seems to be better despite 60hz monitor dunno why… maybe its all in my mind???

I do plan to go nvidia card next time around though..

        • Ideally you'd have a FreeSync range that went to 75hz or higher, FreeSync at 60hz is a bit of waste.

You can get IPS FreeSync monitors with 2560x1440 resolution at a 144hz refresh rate, FreeSync would be a fantastic option with that monitor.

Impulsively bought last week.. should've waited! Blast you ozbargain!

    • Did you buy it via the Dell Website?

      • Nah Dell eBay

        • +2

If it was through Dell directly, ebay or otherwise, you may be eligible for refund on the price difference; it's called price guarantee— not to be mistaken for a price match.

          Call Dell tomorrow on 1300 655 533, options 4, 5, & 3

        • +3

I called up and got a refund of $205! ^_^

        • @The Question: only just saw this now :( think I'm still eligible?

        • +1

I really don't know. Call up and explain, say you were busy and couldn't call. Refer to this, but I don't think they will do it if the special is no longer on offer.

        • @The Question: Agreed. I'll have to take the L. Appreciate your time though, and at least I know for next time!

        • This price guarantee is only for the 2-4 weeks after purchase, iirc.

  • Good monitor for i7 7700 and gtx 1080ti combo?

    • +2

I have a similar monitor the asus pg278q, and similar specs 6700k & 1080 non ti, and 2560x1440 144hz with gysc is absolutely gorgeous I stepped up from my old 1920x1080 60hz monitor so I'd say you'll love it, 4k monitors seem pretty awesome but even a 1080ti will struggle to get good framerates at high settings
