Best Dental Health Insurance

I've had private health insurance for a few years now (I didn't want to, my wife made me) (true story)

We're a young-ish family of 3 and apart from claiming for optical we don't use it much.

However I've had an impacted wisdom tooth for years (no pain) and possibly need crowns.

I put it off because well… it costs a fortune, and my current health insurer (HBF) doesn't cover much.

I'm curious if some of you know of a private health insurer that offers some great value dental cover?

(FYI Qantas corporate insurance covers 80% up to $1000000 AUD in dental costs… yep you read that right)

Take frank's extra with 80 back along with smiles.com.au

  • I used to have a smiles account back when they were called something else (I forgot what)

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out today

  • In a similar place to Nuclearvodka. Missus has a tooth that is falling out and has been quoted for a fakey in the realm of a few $1,000. All of the PHI options even with top cover place annual limits/personal limits of around $700 or similar. Are there any ways to get above that? Like does the Qantas corporate not have those limits, if so how can we get corporate cover?

    • You get corporate health insurance through a broker.
They're usually for Companies paying for their staff. (travel insurance, expat/inpat)
I just happen to know that Qantas corporate insurance is mental.

Best for our family has been australian unity (kids need braces). We got $2400 back for the oldest braces. We have now accumulated 3 years and just moved to the Teacher Health Fund which is the best for what we will need (Our youngest will also need braces) and they give free dental check ups, $200 back on gyms and heaps more. Just read terms and conditions, perhaps use a compare website and see what comes up. We pay around $110 a month for extra only

Your current situation means you'd be looking at major dental, which typically requires a 12 month waiting period unless you hit a promotion.

I don't know how accurate this page is but from the few plans I know of the figures are correct. The highest tops out at about $2000 unfortunately, so you might be better off paying out of pocket (or going to Thailand…).
