Note the small print on that $2 off rental is a bit weird. You have to rent two disks to use it, which means you still end up having to pay, even on a Tuesday.

Also the magazine has two codes :

    $2 off - KN55849
Rent one get one free - KN757212

    both expiring 28/4

  • So is this specific = only 1 rental or is it a $4 credit?

    • Picking out the T&Cs for the 1 free rental:

      • Maximum 1 promo code redeemable per member.
      • Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer promotion/offer
      • Normal kiosk hiring conditions apply

      So I'd say it's 1 rental..

      • Ok great and thanks.

    • It's actually a $5 credit.
Went to hire one today, put the code in and said - $5, so went back, added another movie before I checked out.

  • Thanks OP.

Wonder how long physical media services like this will hang around. Surprised they havent been absorbed by another or moved to a digital delivery model

    • running costs are very small on those machines, compared to shops

      • True, and looking over how they are going they still seem pretty strong as a business

    • These machines will soon follow the bricks and mortar Video stores into oblivion!
Until last year my local Shopping Centre had a Blockbusters machine and a Video Ezy Kiosk.
The Blockbuster Kiosk disappeared about 6 months ago, leaving the Video Ezy one with no competition.
Even with no competition this machines days appear to be numbered, it tends to have only one copy of each new release, and many of the DVD's are well over 12 months old!
Although I have the odd browse through the menu, I haven't actually rented anything for many months, and prefer to stream with Netflix and Bigpond Movies.

I hope not! I like blu-ray discs. I still watch special features.

        Source: I am old.

You could still watch special features and still have menus and have it all come up exactly the same in every single way as a bluray, using digital content. Maybe they could create a delivery system for people to go old school, whereby you have something that looks exactly like a VHS tape, but inside had a hard drive, and can put tape into kiosk, it comes back out with your digital content, then you can go home and put put your video tape in . Lol.

          @ozzpete:

I rented my first digital movie from Google Play last night. I have never bought something through my tv before. Brave new world! It was high def and played nice but no special features. Pity. I am glad I have internet fast enough to stream a high def movie. :)

@Perthguy: Well done with your first Google Play digital film. I understand you feeling like you are missing out, as special features are not included. I miss the deleted scenes in most digital content not available. They can put the special features in digital downloads and content. A digital download can offer exactly same experience as bluray disc, with menu and special features. I dont know why they don't include the extras, but I'm guessing it might be a rights issue, ie. Google play, netflix, etc has paid for the rights to the film itself, but haven't purchased rights for "the making of" special features and the like. Maybe someone here knows how to get digital downloads with menus and special features included.

That sounds like exactly what they have done. It's a shame but I can get the discs from my library free eventually so might just watch the special features off them :)

I thought they were owned by the same parent company.

VZy are pretty good taken plenty of Blu ray disks. Online renting is expensive and not great for Home theaters. I find almost no Blu ray discs for new movies which is a bit disappointing.

    • +3

My local machine has seemingly less and less Blu Rays too these days. There wasn't even Thor Ragnarok on Blu Ray. It makes no sense because a) Blu Rays aren't that much more expensive and b) Blu Ray are more difficult to damage giving them a longer life span in the machine.

They are really aiming these machines at mums and dads entertaining kids on the cheap, versus people who want to see the latest releases in the best format possible.

      • True. most of budget movies are on DVDs only and I don't go there anymore. Bigger areas get more Blu ray discs I suppose.
If they have multiple Blu-ray discs, they are pretty good for $4. I can pay everytime for it.

    • Given up on Video Ezy kiosks, their bluray range is old and there's only 1 copy. Try renting The Last Jedi when there is only 1 bluray copy. And not every kiosk stocks it.

Gone back to brick and mortars i.e. the last remaining Civic Video store in Sydney. It's a bit of a drive but I rent 3-5 blurays at a time at $2 each.

  • Anyone know of the equivalent codes for blockbuster?

    • +1

My understanding is to put a B at the front of the code

      • No, you have to take code, hit with a hammer several times against a large block of would until code is sufficiently busted :)

lol :) specially at my local that always seems to be down in some way..

also confirmed its a $5 credit, per my use this morning, so cheap $2 Tuesdays is best time to use the code if you can manage 2 movies.

    • Yep, just found this out today as well. Noticed before checkout, so added another movie.
This code reamed up with my 3 cards/email addresses will allow us to see all the movies we wanted to this month.
