I am currently using TPG's ADSL 2+
Usually I get about 12-15 mbps on a good day.
My are have no broadband and NBN yet.
Is this normal or would it help if I join Telstra?
Thanks for the help :)

I am curious about this too, does changing providers on ADSL 2 make much of a difference to speed?
Truth is it doesn’t not. With adsl there is no difference really, Halo375 explains what matters most.
no thats not slow.
I don’t believe it will make a difference. What really matters is how far you are from your telephone exchange and the quality of the copper between there to your modem.
Thanks for all the reply.
I was just doing a online chat with Testra and they said their average is about 25mbps.
They have also check to see if there is any report on my are and it is all clear.
They are lying out of their teeth.
Their claim is above the max listed on this site.

Most australians do not get 25mbps as an 'average'. According to Akamai, in Q3 of 2016, the average internet speed for all Australians (including metrics for DSL, ADSL, Cable and Fiber) is 9.6mbps.
Of course it's now 2018 and there are more users signed up with NBN so the average will be slightly higher than 10mbps.
However the 'median' adsl speeds will be something like 10mbps, since the fastest speeds you can achieve with ADSL2 is 24mbps where your exchange is less than 1KM away from you and there is a very dramatic drop at the 1.5 KM point. See graph
Nevermind, misunderstood apologies.
Treat anything anyone at Telstra (internet) says with a grain of salt, they will say anything.
Unless your speaking to the people who ring you after you make a TIO complaint, they won't lie.
slowbro
fo'sho
My in laws is with Telstra, and they get 1mbps consistently.
I’m with Exeter I get 3mbps.
My parents on spintel and get 6.
So I’d say ur fast.
we were 1.5-2.0 Mbps on ADSL……
now 20ish on NBN
Lol, i was on 0.8Mbps on Iinet 'offnet', cost me $80 p/m for 100gb, not like I could have used it from how friggin slow it was. I'm one of the instances where NBN FTTN is a godsend.
I have TPG ADSL 2+ as NBN/Cable not available in my area. Living 5km from exchange. Best speed I have yet to see is 4.6 Mbps. It blows. Count yourself lucky with those speeds.
WOW can't believe everyone is have such slow internet.
How do you manage to watch Netflix or stream online?
See my comment above. Can still stream Netflix fine but not at 4k which is annoying. Also cannot do multiple things at once. I.e. Spotify+Netflix is a no go. Online gaming+Netflix is ok but not Spotify+online gaming for some reason.
I get 8mbps with my optus mobile wifi, 30mbps with my TPG 5g modem wireless connection and 79mbps with my TPG fttb lan connection. The 8mbps is bearable the 30mbps decent and the 79mbps makes me competitive in MMOs and ebay snipering (i can register a bid with 1 second to go).
5g is here already ??
mobile 5g or wifi 5ghz band
wifi 5g from my modem
I'm also with TPG adsl2+ unlimited and no that's not slow at all. We have less than that for 5 people, yeah, 5.
Sometimes it's so slow you can't even google.
Yes
I've been on 100/1.5 Mbps Optus cable for 7 years
Old place with DSL best we could get if lucky was 5, the average was more like 2. Now new house closer to the box and NBN and I see an average of 95 and can easily get 99 from time to time. World of difference.
So for ADSL you doing fairly well considering what most people get.
With tpg adsl2+, last time I checked it was <2mbps. I’m already content with watching YouTube at 480p without pausing… I wish I had even half your speed. -crys-
How far from the exchange? I used to get terrible speeds like that as well but found it was an issue with my local connection (the wires had corroded in the wall socket, was $5 fix)
According to the map I am located 3 to 4.5km away from the exchange. Maybe I should double check all the wires, we have had rat issues before…
If your package speed is up to 20Mbps as per their website then that doesn't sound too bad to be honest.
