    Mi a2/6x is released tomorrow:)

    • +4

      already

    • +4

A2 is 6" with a smaller battery 2910 instead of A1 3080. Worried about that.
I'm so used to my Note 3 4100 battery, was hoping A2 can do the same, shame.

      • +2

official specs out now its 3010 for the 6x. who knows whether the 6x will eventually become the mi a2??

3010mAh according to the above, but yeah it's still a downgrade.

      • +2

6" screen is too large IMO - might as well just buy a Redmi Note. Plus the stupid lack of headphone jack makes the A2 seem like a step backward…bring on the <$200 A1 deals!

        • True that. Even 5.5" is killing me. 4.7" of my iPhone 7 was the best. I don't understand why only premium phones make smaller screens.

      • +2

I know 2 people who moved from the Redmi Note 3 to the A1. And they both say the miss the battery life of the Note 3. Under normal use, the A1 can last them all day, but Person 1 said that had to alter their phone use. They've stopped playing games on their phone.

        • keep the Note 3 for playing games

        • @Jamesx: Why keep the Note 3 and an A1, when I can get <drum roll> The Xiaomi Black Shark!

    • +2

It appears the MI A2/6X doesn't have NFC, which makes me lean toward Moto G6+

      • +3

no NFC is ok for me. Never use android pay.

      • +6

No headphone jack is a deal-breaker for me…

      • +2

Careful, if you care about software updates i'd avoid the G6. Since the acquisition of motorola by lenovo they've been really slacking when it comes to software updates. Such as the G5 having no sign of Oreo coming out.

        https://www.xda-developers.com/motorola-moto-g6-moto-e5-seri…

        • Project Treble might change that. Might. Having said that, I got burned by Moto twice with Android upgrades. Never again.

        • +2

Motorola updates are pretty much non existent . Might as well buy a no name chinese pump and dump handset if updates are your main concern .
Even promised updates for the G4+ G5s look like they will never materialize and will be woefully behind and undoubtedly buggy even if they do see the light of day .
Motorola's golden period was when they were owned by Google and that is long gone .

        • Project Treble is something google has offered for companies to make updates easier and faster, possibly? But i doubt it.

      • OMG! Just noticed the battery on that Zenfone. I think that might be my next phone.

        • Which one? The max Pro?

        • @ozbjunkie: Yeah. 5000 mAh. That's one big battery. What's up with battery for the A2? It's smaller than the A1.

        • @flaminglemon:

Was reading up on the max Pro… No b28? Ozbargain attack!

    • But is much worse than Mi A1. So better buy the Mi A1 while it's there.

      • +1

I am really tempted by the Mi A1 but the SAR emission rating for it is a concern. Hoping that the A2 is better but I don't know if I can wait.

        • Do you keep your phone in your pocket? I do, and I sometimes worry about having it so close to my skin.

  • +1

Thanks Sky, Xiaomi make great phones.

I have had the Mi Max 2 since the beginning of the year, fantastic phone and no problems with it at all.

It has the same processor, RAM & Storage but a bigger screen.

Even at $290, it is great value for money.

    • +4

      Thanks for xiaoingmi your phone.

    • +1

      Waiting for mi max 3. 7 inches¡¿

  • With the launch of the Mi6x (MiA2) today I was hoping it would drop by more than $7… Still…. a good phone

    • +3

Until announced, Mi6x (Mi A2) currently does not mention running Android One. Happy to be corrected.

      • +2

The Mi6x was announced a few hours ago…. MiA2 should be the same phone with Android One sometime soon

        • +2

two months later, according to the interval between 5x and A1.

      • yeah, android one is bid deal, we have the m1 as one of the phones and get updates and it’s a very clean erosion straight out of the box.

because it’s OTA not sure even if they did announce Android One later if it would be OTA, more likely 2 model numbers, same hardware and you choose upon purchase.

need to remember these are designer for chinese domestic market first …..

    • That's absolutely not the Mi A2 "launched today."

  • +10

I literally broke the screen on my old phone not 5 minutes ago, came to OzBargain in the hopes of finding a recent deal on this very phone… (profanity)' A OP, 5 stars.

    • Thanks! I am defo (profanity)' A!

  • +3

But does it have a notification led?

    • +3

a white notification LED only :(

    • +3
      • +6

That looks like an angry pimple.

    • Certainly a mistake on my end. Have updated post re notification LED.

      • Sorry I'm missed something. It sounds like nobody likes the notification LED, are there models that don't come with it or something and is it really that bad?

My current phone doesn't have a functioning notification led so likely it will annoy me but this, still a better phone.

  • +1

how does this one compare to sharp aquos s2? which one is better since they are both similar priced?

  • +12

My wife recently retired her note3 due to the power button basically becoming unusable .
After 2 years and ~$200 I figured it was all good . Checked Aliexpress and it was ~$1 delivered for a new button so I thought I'd give it a go .
3 weeks delivery but it arrived and took all of 10mins to replace , Son is a happy camper .
    I totally recommend Xiaomi .

    • My note 3 power button n sim tray is buggered. Any guides to follow per your recommendation?

      • +1

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjHMp9ayjak
I just followed that to get the back off then you can easily see where it goes . You don't need to take the main board out .
I couldn't find a specific how to just to replace the power button . Probably because it really is that easy and literally takes about 5 mins .

        • Ty mate. Appreciate it!

  • +2

Pretty happy camper grabbed one after a Mi 5 died. Screen and camera (esp low light) are slightly worse but still decent. Great having stock Android and OTA updates.

  • I just got an email showcasing this phone. I need something for a teen daughter who swears she won't drop/lose the next one, so don't want to spend a lot. It seems a good kit for the dosh:

    https://www.banggood.com/DOOGEE-MIX-5_5-Inch-Android-7_0-4GB…

Or is this phone a lot better? Opinions?

got my Mi A1 from this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Mi-A1-…
$3 more (for gold), but you get DHL shipping :)
    same 5% cashrewards

    • +4

This is where I bought mine from as well - worth it for the shipping.
Of course, this is relative - many people here are happy to save 5 cents.

  • +2

Xiaomi Note 3 still going so strong - Looking for an upgrade and keep the Note 3 as a back up phone.

Would love the same battery life as the note 3

    • just get the redmi note 5 pro, or the new asus zenfone max pro m1 (stock android and 5000mah)

      • What is the cheapest price for note 5/pro ?

  • im looking for a cheap phone that has great battery life, to take camping or in case of zombie apocalypse

The 3k battery on this doesn't sound too promising that it will last more than a day, any opinions or recommendations?

    • +1

asus zenfone max pro m1, stock android with 5000mah

    • +1

Get the Meizu note 6 4000mah battery i know its only 3/32 but has samsung/sony dual cameras on back and leaves the Mi A1 for dead in low light especially and a better speaker. Allphones on ebay sell it for 330 and has 20% off nearly every second week and Australian stock and warranty. Watch review against each other here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUwsO5ALRKY

      • Does the meizu run stock android 8?

        • Android 7.1

    • +1

Get a b28 compatible phone so you can take advance of Telstra coverage in some camping areas

      Tldr, not this one

      • I reckon if you camp using a 2WD vehicle you will usually have coverage without band 28. This has been the case for me.

Maybe if you go 4WDing in remote areas B28 might make a difference.

        • nope, we tested over christamas in country victoria xiaomo note 4 and LG v20 with telstra and optus sims …. lots of areas with black spots on note 2 but fine with band 28 even on asphault roads . kids in cars, they will let you know when there is no coverage while you are driving.

        • it really depends; on my experience we've only been camping with 2WD vehicles, and vodafone coverage is shit. optus is patchy and telstra is generally still usable.
          ofcourse different places are different.
for zombie apocalypse b28 is the no brainer.

    • The 3k battery on this doesn't sound too promising that it will last more than a day, any opinions or recommendations?

Get Gearbest to ship you two Xiaomi 10,000 mAh power banks for US$30 (if they still do that deal, that is).

The downgrade in battery capacity is disappointing in this phone.

      • the trend is thinner phones , especially with QC and wireless charging on more phones. , and yes there are also power banks …..eve light, small ones for emergency.

few people have a job where they get to surf on a phone for 8 hours a day without being near a charger or power bank…. even for those that drive and use a phone you’d have a car charger.

    • +1

You probably want walkie talkies in this case.
Nobody will maintain the mobile infrastructure during an apocalypse.

      • Good point!

    • I get 8 hours of screen usage from my Mi A1 with moderate usage (Youtube, social media, etc). I'd imagine it would be less if you played games which I rarely do. Easily lasts a whole day for me if not two.

  • how does this phone compares.with max2? since No NFC, No band 28..

    • Similar performance. Max 2 has a 6.44" screen and longer battery life. A1 runs stock Android whereas Max 2 runs Miui. Depends if you want a bigger phone with longer battery or a better user experience with Android One (in my opinion). I'd go Mi A1.

  • +3

Waiting for better deal on Xiaomi Note 5 / Pro.

  • +3

    I'm getting tempted.

    • +3

      Thanks for letting us know.

      • +9

        I knew you were curious.

      • Thanks for last night ;).

  • Xiaomi Note 4 or Xiaomi Mi A1?

    • we retired a note 4 and went to A1 this year, android one is great …. don’t think i’d buy another phone without it except maybe sammy because of the software support.

  • +5

Love my A1. Just got update April update. Feelsgoodman.

    • +1

      Love your juicy story!

    • Didn't realize it was live, thanks! Honestly a top notch phone for the price. Craps on my Nexus 6P I owned before. Battery lasts all day and no lag.

      • +1

Glad to hear the A1 isn't a killjoy for you!

  • +1

I'd get one if I didn't already have a perfectly functional Redmi 4X. I think now I understand these people who buy a new release iPhone or Samsung Galaxy even though their current phone is in good nick.

    • +3

it’s all about software , new phone gets you the latest android, features and updates, only big names like sammy and google seem to invest money in supporting phones older than 2 years.

2 years support on. $250 phone you bin and upgrade ……2 year support on $900 phone you’d feel ripped off.

  • Still waiting from previous previous deal. It s been more than 60days but customer service says it s normal…

I m new in this forum, I m obviously not going to give my order number to a random guy on a public forum.

I'd avoid Shopmonk as well - nearly a month and my A1 still hasn't shipped.
