even at clearance prices I'd shop around first

    eg
    https://www.mypetwarehouse.com.au/chuckit-sport-25-ball-laun… $19.79 save 13.20

    similar item
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/perfect-pet-ball-thrower/p/8…
    only $2

Depends on what you're after though. The Big W thrower will do the trick if you just want a simple ball thrower and don't mind replacing the balls often, but the Chuckit throwers are quite a bit sturdier and the balls themselves (particularly the Ultra range) are a lot stronger for dogs who are prone to breaking/chewing their toys.

We used to sell a cheaper range of ball throwers, but they weren't nearly as popular because they broke or became brittle far too easily and most dogs would shred the balls within minutes.

      • can I use the Big W thrower with the chuckit balls? ie is there a compatible size among small medium and large

I have a chewy lab, and use a separate ball just for throwing
haven't had to replace it yet, as long as I am careful not to leave it with him when not playing fetch

        • I'm not 100% sure. I know the medium Chuckit balls are slightly smaller than a regular tennis ball, so they probably wouldn't fit in a regular ball thrower. I can't say for sure if the large size would though.

        • @dogcatman:

even if chuckit balls are tougher OP, I was comparing the ball launcher/ ball thrower $19.79 (at clearance, full price $33) vs $2 (regular price)

my point being even at clearance, I'd shop around first
If I can't find a less expensive item I'd gladly buy from MyPetwarehouse

        • @docians: That's what I meant though. If you want something tougher for a dog that chews a lot and/or has a stronger jaw (e.g. a Staffy or Boxer), then I'd recommend going with a Chuckit thrower and ultra-ball over a regular ballthrower because you'll be replacing the balls much less often (which saves money in the long run). If you have a dog who is happy to fetch normal tennis balls and won't destroy them in minutes, a cheaper ball thrower would probably do the trick.

But from my experience, when we sold the cheaper ball throwers, we received more complaints and refunds because they simply didn't last. The balls would be shredded within minutes, the thrower itself would snap or crack, the cup would warp so it wouldn't hold the balls properly, etc. There's a reason they're only $2. Meanwhile we have customers who have said their Chuckit launchers have lasted years, and they only need to replace the balls when they go missing (or get stolen at the dog park).

        • @dogcatman:
My dog is a heavy chewer
Deers antlers are meant to be long lasting chews; they last an hour before being torn to shreds.

Yet I have been using the
Same two dollar thrower and ball. He has not chewed his fetch ball. The thrower has not bent or broke, the cup has not warped.

There must be a reason why the chuckits are under clearance. perhaps their indestructible build has worked against them

  • I am not a fan of MyPetWarehouse - a few bad experiences. To the point I refused to shop with them again.

Typically their prices are overly inflated & even on sale they are one of the most expensive.

All that being said, I just bought a dog bed (and a $5 toy to put the price at $50 to avoid $5 shipping), as I am in need of one and the price was actually semi decent (not super cheap, but cheap enough). I feel dirty, but for once from these guys I think there some actual deals in this.

Edit - that's assuming they don't rescind like they have on me in the past.

    • I usually buy my petfood from them
      No issues thus far

      • Fair enough, guess either I have been unlucky or you have been lucky. Just a FYI, I personally find their food quite expensive, next time you are stocking up I suggest you do a bit of shopping around to other companies and you will likely find it cheaper.

        • I always check with the usual places- petcircle, nettopet etc and give my $$ to the best deal :)

    • The pet e-commerce space is probably a tough one, just like players in the wine e-commerce space are feeling pain. It's entirely commodity goods, and now the expectation on delivery is so high that players can't really compete on it (only lose out if they take longer than 2 days to deliver or charge for delivery).

I always price check across petbarn, petcircle, mypetwarehouse and others. They are forced to consistently offer discounts to attract shoppers. Tough business to be in with probably razor thin margins.

      • True.
I wonder though why Aussie brands like Ivory Coat are at a similar price point compared to American brands like Canidae and Taste of the Wild, considering that it must cost a fair amount to transport.

Surely someone must be making money

        • I think it's just that much cheaper to produce things in America that when you account for shipping it's still cheaper than doing it here.

Or it could be like the well known phenomenon of having whatever you want ordered and shipped from Amazon USA being cheaper than if you went to the local store to get it.

  • Almost bought the kitter litter thinking it’s a good price. But it’s only for the 10kg bag… I could get the 15kg bag from elsewhere for almost the same price

    • Almost bought the kitter litter thinking it’s a good price. But it’s only for the 10kg bag

Yeah the 10kg bag is cheaper @ $13.99 @ Petbarn right now too.

I could get the 15kg bag from elsewhere for almost the same price

You talking about Catmate for $14.99 @ Pethouse?

      • I found the Oz Pet pallets from petbarn are darker and leave this black sluggish stuff that smells really bad when the weather is hot. It was fine when I first used it, but in the summer it got so bad I had to dump all the litter.
I have tried Kitter Litter, got a price match with pet circle and it is so much better. I lost the site I price matched with, but it was about $15 for 15kg too.
Have you tried the Catmate one? Is it similar to kitter?

        • +1

I too moved from Oz Pet to Kitter for the same reasons. Kitter lasts that bit longer too. I've yet to try Catmate but am keen.

Maybe you matched it when House (not Pet House, although Pet House is a subsidiary of House) had it for $15 on special.

  • Dog beds look pretty good, can definitely get cheaper from ebay but the last time I got one it had basically no stuffing.

    Dogcatman OP
    Will/ would you pricematch petbarn?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/378291

    • Update.
Mypetwarehouse does not price match petbarn sale.
      Total bs.
      Petcircle beat no probs.
      Petstock also beat.

      Poor effort mypetwarehouse
