  • Are these good value or am I better going to MSY to copy the hardware here (or better still to customize at MSY)?

      Dell

    • +1

This one, you will struggle to match pricing including windows even if you self build.
My adult son has the same model except the CPU is the next down, it runs quietly, fast and reliably he is very pleased with it.

    • I won't recommend. I recently purchased this product (Dell Inspiron Gaming Desktop) and arrived last Friday, and I am not happy with it. Very less spare bay for 3.5-inch hard disk and Intel motherboard sucks and 256GB M.2 SATA SSD (Boot) very slow compare to my previous SAMSUNG SSD in 5-year-old PC. With this price, I prefer assembling it in MSY or CPLONLINE.
First branded PC in my life and I am regretting it. No other option need to live with it for another five years or so.
Don’t judge a book based on cover experience. The cover is excellent content not worth.

      • How long does it take to boot?

        • Compare to Samsung sdd it is 20sec slow not that slow but compare to old PC with Asus motherboard it is slow.

        • @Sivaks:

Seems alot slower than my XPS 8920

      • Tell us more please, whats the max number of hard drive it can fit in?

        • 3.5inch you can have 2 maximum then SSD 1 that's it.

        • @Sivaks: What? That's pathetic

My previous PC I built 8yrs ago could have slots for 8*HDD

        • @Homr: Most pathetic part is HDD are screw type , not self locking slide and click . Worst decision I am regretting now.

        • @Sivaks: I can understand your frustration. But I'm surprised that you're only one that have posted a negative review on these Dell's Inspiron when I'm sure alot of people have bought this PC already from previous deals.

And 20s boot-time?? Thats slower than a normal HDD

        • @Homr:

To be fair its listed in the description:

Easy upgradability: Your gaming machine comes with up to 460 Watt Power Supply Unit (PSU), and support for up to 4 storage devices for future upgrades (2 HDD, 1 SSD, 1 M.2).

Did you do any research into what you were purchasing before buying?

The only difference my son has made other than an extra SSD and HDD, was to format windows upon arrival to remove any bloatware, his start time is very fast and his last PC was booting of a Samsung EVO SSD but was much slower to boot.

As a bonus it is fully Rift compatible, the Rift has issues with some USB chips so can't be taken for granted.

      • Hi, newbie here can been wanting to purchased pre built gaming pc (first time) but im not sure on dell or just building my own. Can you tell me about MSY?

        • MSY are a range of stores known for having the best or close to the best price on PC components. They manage this by having bad customer service and more of a wholesale than retail feel to their store fronts. Also it is very common that what you want is out of stock. Perfectly fine to purchase from, just manage your expectations accordingly.

If you are not confident on building yourself and cant get windows free or cheap then these Dells represent great value, and I would recommend the Dell XPS model linked above for $1800. If you want to build yourself, instead of going through MSY I would order online and take advantage of the eBay sale. There is a list of comparison parts from my previous deal (linked in the first line of OP) that would give you the same performance for cheaper(excl windows) and have better quality parts, and you could work off that and make some changes to suit your needs to get the best bang for buck.

    • If you can build it yourself and can get windows free or cheap then you can actually get a custom build slightly cheaper during the ebay sales. Check the price comparison section from my post here that has links and recommendations for an equivalent build. This gives the benefits of higher quality parts and longer warranty and greater flexibility.. If you can build it yourself.

    • I bought a second hand custome pc with similar specs a few months ago for almost the same price (to be fair mines got watercooling etc, but all in all very similar)

I think this is a pretty good deal.

  • +8

The XPS is $80 more, at a glance, faster RAM, 2Tb vs 1Tb HDD, better wifi card, smaller and lighter.

    • +1

good point, get teh xps instead. OP might want to update post

      • Updated the post to include this one.

Cant change the main url. Mods can only update them.

    • Bought the xps a month ago and got it within a week! Runs heavy workloads smoothly

  • +1

For people that aren't heavy gamers, you might want to take a look at the optiplex 9020 I7 as an alternative

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Optiplex-9020-Sff-i7-4770-Q…

    Add 1050ti +$250
    Add another 8gb ram (2nd hand) +$50

and you will have a similar performing machine for under $700

I own an optiplex 9020 i7, please feel free to ask any questions.

    • Seller refurbished

      • yeh…most 9020 are refurbished.

But don't forget, Optiplex 9020 are business grade laptops and are pretty much bullet proof

        • Not laptops - Pc's

        • @Franc-T: Yeh PC's, dunno why I said laptops :S

  • Damn I just bought the version below of the Inspiron 7000 and it's in transit to aus now, wondering if I should return it to get this version? I'm guessing it'll be sold out or cancelled pretty soon though

  • FWIW, this is $999.20 again as well (after discount code).

Bought the one I linked a few weeks back, really happy with the purchase. If I could make a recommendation, definitely install a SSD.

It will accept and boot from a NVMe SSD, but it takes some tinkering.

    • Can you elaborate on that tinkering?

      • I'll send you a pm later this afternoon detailing this (sorry, at work atm).

        • I'm interested to know as well. I thought than an NSMe SSD would work as a boot drive without any tinkering, but interested to hear otherwise.

        • @Riczter:

          It didn't for me unfortunately.

With your standard SATA SSD it would I'm guessing.

I had a couple of issues, I'll PM you now with the steps I had to take to be able to boot from my 960 NVMe EVO SSD.

  • Based on the thumbnail, I thought this was another Samsung S9 post.

    • +2

…you better check your eyes or checkout S9 now

  • how are these machines on cooling does one have better cooling ?
