    • You're probably thinking of the QC25, which are very similar to these but wired only.

If you don't use Bluetooth the QC25 are definitely worth looking at, especially for half the price.

    • -2

So these are exactly the same as the version 1 but with google assistant? Think I agree with you, I guess the downvoters need to justify their purchase somehow.

      • +1

They are the exact same price too. V1 have been phased out.

  • +10

If anyone is wondering how these compare to the WH1000XM2 (pretty much their only competition) I've copied my comment from the 20% off ebay deal, edited it and pasted it below.

The Sony WH1000XM2 have better sale prices, and are better than the Bose in sound quality and ANC, but the Bose win in comfort if you don't have a small head. The WH1000XM2 also don't have the headband cracking issue that the WH1000 had as it uses different materials in the headband, so unless you don't have a small head and prefer comfort, they're a better choice. The reason they're not as recommended is because Bose got into the market earlier, and Sony ruined their rep with the cracking issue the WH1000 had.

I personally own the QC35, I'm happy and satisfied with them but if I could swap them for the WH1000XM2 I would.

    • +4

I have a big head (motorcycle helmet size XL) and still feel very comfortable wearing the WH1000XM2 on multiple 8-hour long flights. I haven't tried the QC35 but I have no complain whatsoever about the WH1000XM2's comfort.

      • The WH1000XM2 certainly aren't uncomfortable, but the QC35 are in general more comfortable if you don't have a small head, but if you're comfortable with the WH1000XM2 they're almost a sure win when comparing the two.

    • +2

I can't seem to find anything that suggests WH1000XM2 has better ANC than the QC35 - they all seem to suggest the Bose is slightly better. Can you cite any sources that suggest otherwise?

      • You can adjust the levels of ANC with the Sony, rather than just low and high.

It also has adaptive noise cancelling, while the Bose do not.

As for how they actually perform with ANC, a lot of reviews say the Bose are better, but only just. The personal reviews I come across comparing the two, and my own experience, is that the Sony are actually slightly better than the Bose, but only marginally so.

I'm afraid I don't have any sources to cite other than my experience and the experience of others I know though, so it is possible the QC35 have better noise cancelling, but the difference is so small you can't tell. The Sony definitely win in customising the level of ANC though.

      • +1

I've had both and used both extensively. The Sony is much better at nc and sound. Only really downside is heft and in call quality

      • +2

I think the bose are better at reducing noise objectively; but subjectively because of the "adaptive" feature becomes subjectively better.

        If that makes sense.

Basically; if you want the least possible noise, through the most powerful and effective noise cancelling, get the Bose.

the 1000xm2 has the same noise cancelling capabilities of the 1000, but it has a feature that changes the balance of the noise cancelling. I've heard that the 1000xm2 still sometimes has a barely perciptible hiss with noise cancelling which the bose do not have.

        https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-noise-cancelling-head…

Theres a graph there that shows the relative performance between noise cancelling in a lab environment. It only includes the 1000x (not the xm2) so it lacks the situational adaptation.

The Bose are clearly better from a numbers point, but on that scale it is very very important to note that dB is not a linear scale. The difference between 20dB reduction in volume and 25dB reduction in volume is basically non existent. (IE the difference between 5dB cancelling, and 10dB cancelling is astronomical, the difference between 20 and 25 is barely perceptible).

I think basically the TLDR is get down to somewhere that has a pair of the sony's and has a pair of the bose and put both on in the same environment (wearing glasses or whatever you would normally) and compare them with the same background noise. Listen to the barely perciptible hiss and decide if it matters to you.

It might be worth taking battery life into account also. The Sony's report markedly longer battery life on their website. And even taking that pessimistically it is MUCH better.

    • After much debate I ended up getting the qc35 in the last she for this price and the only reason is that the don't has absolutely terrible reviews for phone conversations. I am happy to report that the qc35's are great for phone conversations which was the big striking factor in choosing then over the Sony's, however I can't use the noise cancelling too much as it makes me feel a bit ill, so I cycle between high, low and of friending in what I am doing and my surroundings. Other than that they are great.

    • +3

I'd also like to add that the 1000mx2 has shocking call quality compared to qc35 which work like magic.

      • Ah, right. I knew I was missing something…

    • +1

Theres actually been multiple reports of the headband cracking issue in the 1000xm2

      • Really? All I can find is the one person spreading those reports, mainly on reddit. Based on their pictures, it's also just a scratch, not a crack.

I thought the same in the past when I saw their posts, but after some other ozbargainers and reddit ors pointed it out, I noticed I couldn't find anyone else reporting issues with the headband cracking, unless I'm mistaken and there's other reports now.

          https://us.community.sony.com/s/question/0D50B00004KOWe4SAH/…

The little scratches you see are because of its poor design, which will eventually form into a crack

        • @lovindeals: That's concerning. Hopefully it's just a bad batch and the majority stay fine.

With the WH1000X the cracking started after 2 months, but there hasn't been any reports of the WH1000XM2 cracking until recently.

Hopefully they accept warranty returns/exchanges on them, I heard that they eventually did with the WH1000X (although it took a bloody long time!).

Thanks for sharing the info and links!

        • @lovindeals: wow wasn't even covered under warranty without bitching on the forums!

        • @MeateaW: It’s always covered under the Australian Consumer Law.

SMH give it some pretty bad review too
          https://www.smh.com.au/technology/sony-wh1000xm2-review-newe…

Pretty dumb if it can't just turn on noise cancelling

        • @humbala: Jurgens is the same person who made a bunch of other posts about the cracking issue, he was the first to post about it and boy did he post about it.

While it's a shame the auto shut off timer when nothing is playing isn't adjustable, if you just want noise cancelling and no music playing, wouldn't $5 ear plugs make much more sense?

        • @Procyon: Yep, but a lot of companies are shitty and won't listen even if you have a copy of the ACL printed and quote it, and the ACCC can't do anything in most cases so you need to take the company to court.

Taking a company to court over a pair of headphones, even if it's a clear win, would be very stressful.

No one seems to talk about the Sennheiser PXC 550, which is up there along with the QC35 and WH1000XM2 as a wireless NC headphone. Maybe because it's harder to find good deals on them.

Sound quality is subjective. Although a lot of people prefer the Sony over the Bose, some say the QC35's are better for relaxed listening and more suited for classical/jazz music, and the WH1000XM2's are better for lively music like EDM/techno, etc. Others say the Sennheiser's beat them both. I guess it depends on what music you listen to, and what sound you prefer.

I've heard the ANC is pretty close between the QC35 and WH1000XM2, with some saying Bose wins by a small margin. Both beat the Sennheiser's in that aspect.

In terms of comfort, generally the QC35's are regarded as the most comfortable for longer periods of time, no matter what size your head is.

I've heard the mic is a lot better on the Bose and Sennheiser over the Sony.

      Other things to consider:

Bose doesn't support aptX only AAC
Sony supports both AAC and aptX
Sennheiser doesn't support AAC only aptX

iPhones support AAC while Android supports aptX

Bose and Sennheiser support 2 active bluetooth connections
Sony only supports a single active bluetooth connection
I believe all three support up to 8 profiles for pairing with bluetooth devices.

      • Thanks for adding on your info!

Yep, I find that sound quality is subjective with everything, but in general the Sony wins.

As for Android not supporting AAC, Google added AAC support (finally!) via the AOSP, so recent phones should have AAC support easily if the manufacturer wants it to be there.

I have a OP3 which didn't have AAC support but does now, and as an owner of the QC35 I'm really glad they added it.

        • Oh awesome, I did not know that! It's about time haha. AAC is a superior, more efficient codec than aptX.

        • @Phade: I only found out yesterday, was fixing a problem with my QC35 volume being independent of my phone (turns out for some reason it was using version 1.4 of Bluetooth AVRCP by default, not sure who made that drunken mistake, especially as version 1.5 is a far better option as it was a bug fix build, which fixed my problem) and in the developer options I noticed I have the following codecs to choose from:

          Use System Selection
          SBC
          AAC
          aptX
          aptX HD
          LDAC

So I did some searching and came across this on the xda forums.

I'm glad it was finally added but it took a bloody long time.

    • I would like to add that although people have reported latency issues with the Sony WH1000XM2, I have not had any. And people say the QC35 is even worse for watching videos, so be wary if you're video-heavy with these.

      • Yeah, I've read a lot of reports of the QC35 V2 having latency issues and making videos unwatchable.

One person I asked about it had already replaced their headphones twice because of the issue, but still had it, and it was on their phone, laptop and tablet.

I have the QC35 V1 and don't have any issues.

  • When I checkout and put in the "POLISHED" code its not working, what am i doing wrong?
    Thanks

      Update: goods arrived perfectly today.

  • Insane price. Has anyone purchased from these guys before?

    • It's a good price but not insane. I've bought from them before without any problems, think I might have also bought my QC35 V1 from them last year during an ebay sale.

      • My wife bought a pair from Myer of all places for 360. (They went on sale one weekend, we came back the next weekend and asked a manager if they'd give us the same price and to our surprise he said: "yep!").

        Myer is weird sometimes.

      • ah yeah i was thinking of the cordless ones. got excited there for abit!

    • Yeah not nearly insane, I paid $325 delivered from the Amazon deal a few months back ($335 with express postage).

  • Thank you, just ordered myself some, no problems with code at all. Cheers.

  • +1

Why not go to OW and get 5% off more with this price?

    • I don't see any Bose headphones on the OW website

      • Go to into a store and show this sale. I have done it before. They just check the product part name and the total cost including delivery. Managed to get other items before.

      • Problem is sometimes they don't have stock.

      • Yeah pretty sure officeworks discontinued them a few months back, think they were on clearance for $350.

        • Does JB price match?

        • @g1n0:
I went to a JB HiFi today and they price matched it for me! Saved me waiting 2 weeks for Videopro

        • @lavishdawg: I had a pair delivered within 6 days, but yeah obviously retail is quickest.

        • @lavishdawg:

Which JB hi-fi did U do a price match ? Can U post me a receipt? Want to do the same.

          Thanks

  • I received mine today. bought a week ago. All look good and sounds good, but when I try to Registering it on Bose website and it can't find the Serial number. I am sure I enter the SN# correctly.

I have look at box again, under the SN# is show ( EU IMPORTER BOSE PRODUCTS B.V. GORSLAAN 60 1441 RG PURMEREND THE NETHERLANDS )

Is this Australian stock? or I received the grey import one?

  • Hey guys how was the delivery time? Looking to buy a pair for an upcoming trip where i leave on the 13th. Cheers

    • I got mine in a week, but not sure how the stock level are now. Better to ask them before you order one.
