Be interested to see what's the difference is. Or is it just bigger.

    • +32

It's probably just the same size the standard Big Mac used to be years ago.

      • Just had one, it’s exactly the same as a ‘normal’ one just slightly larger. Medium fries were $2.80 and frozen fanta $1.00.

      • +9

There is no way the Big Mac was ever this big; most of you have just increased in size.

        • +8

You are too young to see how is it 20 years ago :)

        • +8

@superforever: I'll never forget my dad teaching me a lesson in writing cheques you cannot cash. When I said I could finish 10 big mac in one go, he took me to the McD in the city, where I had to finish them one by one. Of course he didn't waste the burgers, but kept buying each time I finished the last one.

        • Lol how cute

        • @t25:
Tell your dad I can eat 10 Big Mac's, his shout.

        • @superforever: People keep saying this but I need more proof than just misguided nostalgia ;) I'm old enough to remember 20 years ago, I guess I didn't consume much McDonalds back then.

        • Agreed. Meat wise, it’s the same. 2 pieces of meat that 1/10th a pound.

Quarter pounder is same size meat, but bun has shrunk.

        • @t25: Did you end up finishing all 10? :p

        • @jasnkapadia: I only managed 6. I learnt from that time onwards never to write cheques I cannot cash.

        • @superforever: all I see is a flattened quarter pounder. Did you know when the Quarter Pounder first come out here the buns were 4 inches, then they were increased at some point to 4.5, then back to 4 (same as the rest of the world)? And the meat was actually increased from 4 to 4.25 ounces (yeah yeah big deal) pre-cooked.

      • this

    • +2

I had this in Japan as it is a permanent thing over there and it was a very decent sized burger!! Sometimes I wasn't able to finish it all in one go.

But then again, this is Australia so it probably won't be the same. The one in Japan though was amazing.

Correction: The Giga Big Mac was the one I couldn't eat all in one go. Grand Big Mac was still a meal by itself though lol.

      • +2

Still not clear what the difference is. Just bigger?

      • +1

Think I tried to eat the Giga Big Mac (2.8 times size of Big Mac). Felt sick afterwards. The Grand is a measly 1.3 times size of Big Mac.

        • -1

Well it's like eating 2.8x bigmacs, what would you expect? Only 92.4gms of fat or almost 1/10th of a kilo of fat.

        • @freemoneyhunter:
I tried to eat the Giga Big Mac - full info:
Couldn't eat even half & felt sick. So only ate equivalent of a Big Mac & shared the rest with a few homeless men on a night approaching 0C.

"what would you expect?" … Strangely I don't do calculations like that when hungry overseas. Only learnt now it was 2.8 BM! Maccas are not normally on my diet.

Just was curious, & tempted by the advertising featuring a sumo wrestler - late at night in Tokyo🇯🇵 I learnt my lesson.

    • Got it. Seems to be bigger than a double quarter pounder. More width than height I suppose and the meat is the same thickness.

      • -1

So it's a double whopper with cheese?

        • No it's a big mac.

        • +12

We call em steamed hams. Ol Skinner recipe.

        • @Clear:

          No it's a Grand Mac

        • +1

@scrimshaw: You call hamburgers steamed hams?

        • It’s a Royale with Cheese

      • +1

What would they call a double quarter pounder in France if a quarter pounder is Royale with Cheese?

        • +2

          probably "une merde-load de gras"

        • +1

@kiitos: LOL half their menu should be called that.

    • +1

I asked a staff member tonight and she said that the patties were quarter pounder ones and had extra cheese. There are probably a few other differences but that was the main ones I can remember.

      • +2

The burger uses a new 5:1 patty that is the same thiccness as the 10:1 patty but is much bigger. It has more cheese, bigger bun and more sauce.

        • What do the "5:1" / "10:1" numbers mean?

        • @jasnkapadia:

10:1 means a 10th of a pound or 0.1 pounds. These are used in Big Macs, Cheeseburgers, Double Beef & Bacon etc.

5:1 is a fifth of a pound or 0.2 pounds which is what the previous poster was talking about. A new patty for the Grand Mac

Quarter Pounders use 4:1, obviously a quarter of a pound.

Angus burgers use a third pound patty or 3:1.

  • +1

The only difference in the new sandwiches is the size — they both are dressed with the ubiquitous lettuce, American cheese, pickles, onions, and special sauce and served on the traditional sesame seed bun. The Grand Mac comes on a bigger bun and features two 2.7 ounce patties, which makes it a one-third-pound sandwich

  • +3

the grand big mac is not even bigger than the big mac i had 10 years ago

    • +2

This reminds me of Dominos' tactics ie. shrinking the product by a little while keeping the price about the same and then re-releasing the original size at a much higher price.

    • +6

The big mac hasn't changed in 10 years. It's still two 1/10th pound meat patties, same cheese and bun size. The bun did shrink a couple of decades ago, filling used to all be well inside the bun rather than going all the way to the edge like it does now, but that's it.

      Likely your appetite changed.

  • McDonald's website down for anyone else?

    • Lol that's probably not their actual website 😂😂
It's just the standard don't like taking screenshots one.

      • Nah, on https://mcdonalds.com.au/ I get 'connection reset'.

That's their official website, but I'm not sure if it is me or not.

        • I get connection reset too.

        • It's working now.. not sure about before.

  • +1

Just had one, it's the size of a hungry jacks whopper

    • Same. This plus a $5 Double Beef and Bacon meal. If it wasnt whopper sized it was close to it.

Great deal for $4.55 but I doubt I would ever pay full price.

    • +1

Does it still taste like shit compared to a Hungry Jacks whopper?

      • Yup same quality big mac shitty taste just more of it =P

  • Not appearing in my app… QLD

  • I have $7.55 , $4.55.

    • Hmmm, this was tested with a few stores in Sydney so prices may vary.

  • +3

They have the "BIG" Mac smaller and smaller and now they have it "BIG" again and charge you more.

    • Charge you less based on this discount

  • +1

I really dont thin k this burger deserves the title of GRAND !! lol

  • Any tried it? Any good?

    • Its just a Big Mac only close to a whopper size. So if you like Big Macs it is. If not you won't like this.

    • I think is the same just system restore the size 10 years ago lol

  • +1

Grand my ass. Mcdonald's burgers are tiny, expensive, and pretty crap.

  • When i look up participating restaurants my local one is listed but when i go to order online it says not available here. Anyone know why?

    • I had the same issue. Also, Kiosk did not have Grand big mac either.

I showed the deal on the app to the counter, and they were able to do the discount for me

  • +3

The Grand Big Mac is buying what a normal Big Mac should look like in their promotion.

  • -1

They should bring back the mega mac which was a big mac with 4 pieces of meat. Who gives a f@@k about extra sauce and lettuce in this grand crap.

    • +1

Not sure why you got down voted. The 4 Big Mac patties = heaven. If this grand Big Mac has different patties eg the quarter pounder one it’s going to be discusting. It’s so greasy.

    • why do they need to bring it back? Just ask for a Big Mac and add 2 extra 10:1 patties. If you feel shy, use the app or kiosk.

      • You need to also add a second piece of cheese and extra serve of Big Mac sauce. If you do it properly it’s $3.30 extra - $8.85 each.

  • It’s not worth it.

2180kj for a Big Mac. 753kj for two 10:1 meat patties. 2933 kJ.

A grand Big Mac is 3500kj. So, the grand Big Mac… 567kj more! I need to determine how much is the bun and meat etc. very curious to know.

  • just had one. looks like two quarter pounder patties. messy to eat, although not as bad as the mcchicken mac, that thing was ridiculous.

    • Are the patties as greasy as the quarter pounder one? I prefer the Big Mac patties over any of the others, tastes nice and beefy without the greasiness

  • just had one, certainly wasnt 2 quarter pounder patties, sort of in the middle of one of those and a regular big mac pattie. size was big, but tbh it was about the normal big mac size 15 years ago. was good for $4-5, wouldnt pay more

  • How does that "Option to scan at restaurant" work? Every time I've used this app I've ended up leaving the restaurant without a burger. It would tell me I was too far away even though I was in store.

    • +1

Yeah, had to resort to scanning in the restaurant since my app wouldn't detect me in the restaurant either. You go to the ordering screens they have inside, choose to scan in your offer and you can scan the QR code or type the code manually. It should pop up on the screen.

      • +1

Oh nice, it is about time. I'd given up on it, and had dealt with their support for it several times, and made the same suggestion (Eg the "you are too far away" should not be fatal, it should be "We THINK you are too far away. Please confirm you are ready to order.". Fxxxing idiot software developers.

  • How does this work

Just dlded the app, tried to order… $7.60 at check out

Not even the 25% off for first order as per google play

    • You have to activate the offer, otherwise the discount won't be provided.

    • go to the 'My Rewards' category on the home page and apply it to order.

  • +4

I clicked show code at counter and showed the lady on the register and said got a voucher for a grand big macshe didn't know how to put the code in so I got the thing for free 😂

    • +2

Awesome!! Haha that reminds me of when I had a big Mac + large fries from the Macca's monopoly and she forgot to take the coupons off me so I could redeem it twice xD

      • +1

Post it up as a bargain! Free Grand Macs at Mcdonalds Tingalpa!

  • Is the Android app any better these days? I deleted it ages back cos it was a dumpster fire

    • +2

It recently got updated and while it's "better" it's heaps different and a lot of wasted space. But in terms of performance, a massive increase.

  • You can remove one Patty to reduce by $2.
I added one bacon at $1.
    Lunch $3.25.

    • +2

Remove both patties and it's only 35c ;)
Being vegetarian has never been so cheap!

  • -4

    still about 2 bucks overpriced

    • +8

You've got to be kidding me if you think you can get something like this for $2.35 and it's only then an alright price..

  • +1

Just had one, save your money. It's not worth it

    • First time you have "BIG" Mac?

      • slightly bigger than a bigmac, no signs of 'double the sauce' and just very dry overall.

        • no signs of 'double the sauce'

Next time take it back ….

        • @superforever:

Got it for takeaway and was in a bit of a rush, otherwise would. 2/10 wouldn't eat again.

  • Tried to get this today at my local but it said offer not available.

    • Fair enough, thanks for letting us know. You could've been a bit more informative though..

      • Would have been informative to know it wasn't available at all stores.

    • Same here, said not available at my store when I tried to order through the app. Tried to enter at kiosk and said code not recognised. Kiosk did not have Grand Mac on the menu. Went to HJs instead.

  • How can you use the student edge card + the app. Ever since I've used the app, I've forgone all my free drinks

    • There's an option to scan the offer so you can buy it in store at the register

  • $5.05 in Brisbane CBD, $4.75-$4.95 just outside the CBD. :\

    • For some reason all of the maccas in our area charge just about the highest in australia for a burger :/
