    Nice spec, delicious price, ozbargain!

    • Bought one today. My local OW had 10 instock.

The only thing wrong (as far as I can tell) is the poor screen (the resolution is fine, it's just the screen quality itself) and trackpad.

However, in terms of heat ventilation it's definitely an improvement over the older 2nd Gen glossy black DV6's.
I'm hitting about 29-31'C and it's summer!! Compare this to 50-55'C on the 2nd DV6 generation.

      • Ooooh so they've fixed them? I've always been told to stay away from HP laptops because they overheat :(

        • Only the heating issue has been (finally!) fixed.

The only things that may put you off this model are:

Screen quality - gets better once you calibrate it but still not great (a $500 15.6" e machine has a better screen than this :/).
Touchpad - you get used to it as time goes on though…
          Lack of number pad
Awkward shortcut keys on the left side causes misjudgment whilst touch typing —> constant mistakes - again you get used to it as time goes on.

        • haha lol
          i have a DV6-3042tx
and i think the only reason why mine overheats is due to the Core i7 being there
mine idles at 60-70 and maxes at 95(stress test)
i use netbook now around 46

      • -1

is there any recovery disk or any manual inside the small black box in the package? all i have is 2 piece of paper

        • Don't know why you got a neg for that comment… but no, very few computers have come with recovery discs over the past 5 years or so. You can create your own using HP's Recovery Media Creation software. Should take 3 or so blank DVD's I think.

No "book style" manual either. Jump on the HP website if there's a key or spec you're not sure about otherwise everything else would be a query regarding the OS not the actual laptop so check the microsoft website for FAQ's.

  • Fantastic price! We picked one up for $950 from HN a couple of weeks ago! We rate the laptop!

    • do harvey norman still offer to refund the difference if you find somewhere cheaper within a few weeks?

Also see if your credit card offers purchase protection insurance to do this

      • Technically 7 days before and 7 days after the purchase but always worth trying.

P3t0r: if it is just a couple of weeks, call the store you got it from, you might be surprised. If it's a month or 2, I don't like your chances.

  • Did I mentioned how small the 90W power brick is.

    I'm impressed :O - looks like a 60W brick :)

    • +2

It's not the size of your power brick mate, it's how you use it! :p

  • OW website stated price $999

    • Read the title and description.

You'll have to price match DSE at OW who has it for $799 to receive an additional 5% discount.

    • +3

"Price: $759 price match DSE $799."

The $799 is from DSE who are actually doing the promotion. The $759 is after pricematch at OW.

  • Myer also had this for $780 for this weekend if that helps for more of a price match/beat.

    • HI Aldog,

Which Myer did you see the DV6-3131TX? Is it in NSW or other states? I contacted few big Myer stores, such as Parramatta, City, Castlehill and chatswood, they all told me they don't carry this DV6-3131TX at all. They have only DV6-3132 and 3133 in stock. Staffs in all these stored told me 3131tx either discontinued ages ago from their system or they never carry it.

I am really surprised the 780 at Myer is 3131tx or 3138 model

    Almost Negged this… still deciding.

This deal REALLY should be promoted as a Dick Smith deal - because they are the company who are promoting the great price.

I think by now we all know that OW (and DSE) can do price matching (and it can always be added as a comment).

Otherwise, every bloody deal on this site will look like it's from Officeworks. And that is rubbish, and giving them promotion that they definitely DO NOT deserve.

    • i agree with you but that's not a reason to "almost" neg a deal ;)

    • +2

Ive adjusted the title/url to fix the issue.

Just to confirm Pricematching isnt a deal, its available for all electronic goods, and doesnt reward the original company that offered the good price. (it can be mentioned in the body, but the original store is to be judged for pos/neg voting)

Also, HR stalks this forum, and i'll put money on the fact by 8am tomorrow they will release a new "low price" for this product.

  • strictly speaking maybe that's true, but i like OW because when it comes to their pricematching policy, they always honor it with me! plus my gift cards only work with OW, not DSE

    • Very true… they are upto their words… DSE sucks

  • Is this a MacBook Pro?

    • +7

      LOL

      • -5

Don't LOL me. Is it a MacBook or not?

        • old joke is old now.

        • Since when was less than one week 'old'? I have to keep up with these things.

        • is when u spam it

        • Posting 2 of the same post is spamming? I've got to write that down too.

    • +2

Does it say anywhere that it is a macbook pro? If you read the title, you can tell that it is a hp laptop.

      • +1

i had to lol at that
        next: is that alienware?

      • +1

hp? My Vulpix has 246 hit points, what pokemon do you have?

        • +1

n00b, i have lvl 99 ninetales, with 247 hit points

    • +8

naah this is Sony BRAVIA 50inch 3D tv.

  • -7

OW is so tricky, they will drop their price asap and make sure no one else is getting the 5% discount, thats cheating, i think we should just go dse and ask them if they could also do 5% more off so avoid the doggy OW

    • So let me get this right, every time dse does a good price they might as well take another 5% off?.

Maybe they should have a disclaimer.

*For red hot deal, take another 5% off because of office works.

      Please.

How about this, because office works is doing 5 percent cheaper, get dse to price match the price match, get 10% off the difference from dse again, wait, then tell ow to price match again….

    • +1

Dunno why you think it is cheating.

So you're saying because OW has a price-beat policy, they have to keep their prices above their competitors so customers can get another 5% off?

  • +1

yeah good price for the specs.. pity it's HP

    • Had a HP DV6 for over a year now and it's done some hard work. Love it, can't fault anything about it. When not on the road it works great as a desktop plugged into my 24" LCD.
What do you consider to be the perfect laptop in this price bracket?

  • -7

    why people neg my comment?????

    • +5

Ignore it, tis mostly meaningless. We get a lot of "negger guys" around here! ;)

      • LOL!!!

      • +1

Hey look! It's that negger guy, we don't appreciate you slandering an entire race on Wheel Of Fortune.

    • +2

maybe OW staffs are watching you :)

  • For those waiting on the new Intel chips, Sandybridge is in AU already. My uncle bought this baby for $1100 at HN:
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/ho/WF25a/321957-321957-…
very cheap quad core laptops are here!

  • Came across the toshiba a500/031 with bluray and tv tuner. Any opinions on whether this is a better deal at $787.50?

Other specs appear similar. I'm buying one or the over today.

    • good deal with bluray but let down by it's nvidia 330M video card

    • Where?

      • Sorry for the late reply. It was at Highpoint Myer, but they only had display stock left. There was no extra discount for display stock items though, at least not for me. It's part of a 5 day 25% off clearance items sale, which ends on Tuesday (I'm not sure what this covers exactly and whether it is store specific).

An image of the price here.

        http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4135/0cde7c7a32295fe010d2…

        • Seems like a good price. I do believe the same A500/031 at JB in there website for 1599

          http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/tos…

Naed you may ask JB to pricematch for 787.

        • I picked up the HP for my cousin as she doesn't really need blu-ray so the trade-off wasn't worth it. I'd imagine you could negotiate with JB, although they might make an issue of the display stock only note. I'd imagine you'd have to find a myer with stock first, and today is the last day for the sale.

  • Pretty good price my friend bought this for over $1200 from harvey norman just before christmas. Although they did get over $200 of "extras".

    • +1

that "extra" wasn't a $200 1m HDMI cable was it?

  • FAR OUT!! My girlfriend just bought this at GG for $970 3 days ago!

    • don't they have like a policy
"if you find a greater price, you will get 110% refund"
idk, if its true or not

    • +1

take it back and show them this ad, you will get 110% off price diff.
I done it before as long this ad still valid or DS in your area have stocks.

  • +1

Just bought this today, great laptop, i was looking at getting a netbook first, but this one should last me alot longer. Thanks for posting this deal.

    • hey have u unbox it? did u see the small black box inside is there any CDs like recover cd or any user mannual, my is just 2 piece of paper inside i find it unusual. pls let me know thx alot

      • yep mine just came with 2 pieces of paper.

I did found it odd at first considering there were more manual documentations with my 2nd Gen DV6 (early 2010 model) and DM3 model

      • +1

from my experience most computers and laptops these days dont come with recovery disks. You would usually have to create them yourself with the installed software already on the laptop. Sometimes this will take up to 4 blank dvds to make.

        • This particular model takes 5 blank DVD-5.

        • That's a lot of bloat & shovelware! :o

  • I would recommend that anyone looking for a laptop should buy with USB 3.0 connectivity. Good deal anyway.

    • that is to prepare for future technology

  • just bought one at office work punchbowl. they pretty surprise with DSE's price. but they all good,$759.05 lucky they havnt drop the price down yet, only auburn and strathfield still have stock now.hurry if u want one.

    • +2

officeworks have the most successful pricematch, i always pricematch there,
i don't think they mind that much about price because they only care about your business so that's good

    • it's a demo.

      • It also doesn't have a powerful dedicated GPU like this one.

  • +1

it's a shame though, that most of HP's line of DV6 are not full hd

  • +1

    nice find!

  • -1

Great price but im considering this laptop instead

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC8893/pavilion-dv6-3139tx-n…

    Its got i7, 8GB , 1TB, 1GB Graphics 5650, Bluray burner for $1199 (apparently its normally $1899)

Its a similar laptop to this one , but im not sure which is better considering the $400 price difference.

    • +3

in the end, will it make a difference what you want to do with the laptop?
400$ is not a tiny amount either

just bought this from blacktown OW
funny thing is right afterwards they stuck a pricetag of $799 on :P

      • yeh good point, although I think there is more then $400 of value between the laptops.

I was planning to use it as a Blu Ray player as well by HDMI into TV (since i dont have a blu ray player)

I looked around and the processor/RAM/HDD seem to be near the top end that you can get in a laptop

The 3131TX does have 5 hours of battery life though which is nice.

      • thats what i talking about haha, i m suprised they didnt do it straight away, normally they act fast than us, so how is urs did u get for $759 yeh? i was trying to get them throw me a bluetooth mouse and the sales dont really want to talk to me anymore lol.

    • It doesn't have a blu-ray burner ;)

For the price, I guess it okay however are you sure you'll be using the 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive?

If not then it's just a waste of money.

      • I checked the 3139TX in person and it definitely does have a blu ray burner, most sites including HP, have it wrong.

Good point though, 8GB is definitely more then enough.

I guess ill go with the 3131TX as 5hours of battery life is great for university.

        Thanks for your help

  • I love this forum; even if its just for the comments. The lols I get…

On topic: awesome price for this laptop. If HP did indeed fix their overheating issue; then this is most definitely worth thinking about.

  • +1

nice price, i picked one up from OW mona vale today.

  • +1

Nice find. Picked one up from OW Wynyard.

  • +2

Great find Hirokuro!!! Typing this on mine that I just bought from OW Browns Plains :)

Thanks for this forum. I actually bought the DV6-3131TX laptop at officeworks in Sydney on Friday the 14th for $930, pricematch with binglee price $970. After i seen this forum the dicksmith price Yesterday i was really shocked, as i already started using the laptop. Today i went there to officeworks, show them the dicksmith price and asked me is it possible to refund me back the difference of price beat of $799. The manager told me they don't have the price guaranteed policy giving the difference back, however as per customer goodvile service and the price was cheap at Dicksmith within 1 week, they refunded me of $171 back to my card.. This means my final price was $759.05 as well and my warranty for the laptop technically starts from today, not on Friday 14th.

  • How about DV6-3006TX i5-430M 1GB ATI5650 500GB 4GB for $699 @ 9289? almost exactly the same specs.. the only difference i believe is the CPU

    http://store.9289.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cP…

  • Officeworks now changed their price for DV6-3131TX to 799. I don't think they will beat dicksmith 799 by 5% anymore..

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

I also noticed at JB hifi they reduced their price as 950, showing reduced to clear.

  • The site lists the laptop at 999 after the $200 discount?
I'm guessing the 799 deal has expired?
